_________________________________________________________________
Character Bio - Whelan subjected himself to Baron Zemo's genetic experiments, which granted him superhuman strength. However, in the process of the mutation, he manifested a rat-like physical appearance, and was called Vermin.

“I .. I was a man, I was smart .., a scientist. My name .. before .. “ And the memory fades once more, leaving only Vermin standing there, staring. Slowly he crouches down to dig through some filth on the floor of the sewers. His friends come to greet him and they swarm around him. Vermin would prefer his life stayed like this forever, just scurrying though the sewers with his friends. But the above world will not leave him alone. Some try to use him to do bad things; others hunt him to hurt him or his friends. Vermin does not like pain. Why won’t they leave Vermin alone? Vermin will get back at them. Vermin is strong. Vermin has many friends. Yes. Vermin strikes harder at those who hurt him. The pain will end, one way or another.

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

NAME = VERMIN
SECRET IDENTITY = EDWARD WHELAN

SPECIES = MUTATE
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = CREATURE
PERSONALITY = SAVAGE

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM / 5

LIFE = 5

MOVE = 4
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 2
DEFENSE = 5

POINTS = 150

RAT SWARM CONTROL
After revealing an Order Marker on this card and taking a turn with Vermin, if he did not attack this turn, you may choose up to 3 Rat Swarms you control within 6 clear sight spaces of Vermin. One at a time, take a turn with each chosen Rat Swarm, during which it adds 1 to its Attack number and cannot use the Swarm Movement special power.

LIVING IN FILTH
Vermin is never affected by the Plague special power.

ADRENALINE 4
Add 1 to Vermin's Move and Attack numbers for each Wound Marker on this card. You may not add more than 4 to Vermin's Move and Attack numbers with this special power.

Awesome!

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

Players will probably wound their own Vermin. Attack 6, Defense 7 is pretty stout for 150.

When referencing a numeral in Adrenaline, use 1 instead of one. Should say 'each' instead of 'every.'

Sure but at one life he's not lasting long.

Liking what's here. Should there be some "one-at-a-time" language in the rat swarm power?

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

I'm not 100% sure that Adrenaline should boost Defense... I feel like a rat-dude hopped up on panic would be easier to hurt, not harder.

Rat Swarm Control could probably mimic Ant-Man a bit more closely (just going with Rodent Heroes or something).

Maybe spin the Plague Immunity off into its own power? We're not hurting for space and it feels a bit weird tacked onto Rat Swarm Control.

Anyways, yeah, other than minor stuff like that he looks good to me. :up: Long overdue!

:word: to all of this.

Totally see your point and can be easily persuaded to this argument. My goal for this power was to show Vermin's cunning at the start of a battle (making him better to use rats rather than fight himself), but as he gets injured his ferociousness takes over and it would be better to toss him into the battle. I just needed a way to keep him alive.

Rat Swarm Control could probably mimic Ant-Man a bit more closely (just going with Rodent Heroes or something).

A little harder to do with the Rat Swarms' Swarm Movement power. If Vermin allowed multiple Rats to take a turn, then each would activate their Swarm power and mass hoards would move forward. If Vermin only allowed 1 rat swarm to take a turn, then it would greatly cut his value. That's why I went the route of move and attack terminology on Vermin

Maybe spin the Plague Immunity off into its own power? We're not hurting for space and it feels a bit weird tacked onto Rat Swarm Control.

Agreed.

Anyways, yeah, other than minor stuff like that he looks good to me. :up: Long overdue!

Thanks

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

Agreed on moving Plague Immunity into its own power.

I wonder if Adrenaline shouldn't have a cap of +3, or just lower his Life to 4? Just to keep things in check. 8 Move seems a little high to me.

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

Yeah, I was also thinking of putting a number of Adrenaline (making it Adrenaline X) for more reusability.

He might last longer than you think with 7 defense dice, especially if he has other 150 point figures attacking him.

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

To get 7 Defense would be pretty rare, since he'd be so close to death, and if he did get there, he'd only have 1 Life left.

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

I do like putting a numeral restriction on Adrenaline even if we're not taking the power level down, for re-usability. I think he'll be fine as-is, though, since 7 Defense is crack-able, and 1-Life dooms him at that point. Worst case scenario is that his points come up a little, but I think he could justifiably be a little higher on points anyway. This is a guy Spidey had trouble with, after all.

I could also see, like johnny said, having Adrenaline only affect Move/Attack and putting his Defense at a static 5-6.

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

I like the idea of it only affecting Move/Attack just for theme.

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

It seems most are in favor to restrict Adrenaline to just Move & Attack, sounds good to me. Defense = 6 then?

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

Sure, if that's thematic for him.

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

Vermin has "moderately superhuman" durability, with top-notch reflexes and agility. I think you could justify anywhere from 4 to 6 Defense, so it's a dial we can turn.

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

6 Defense and just Move/Attack for Adrenaline sounds good to me.

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

Changed Adrenaline to affect only Move & Attack, increased Defense to 6 and separated the plague immunity. Doing some more research I don't think he is up to Super Strength level. I always thought of him as near Spider-man level, but from what I have read it seems his strength is closer to Captain America's and he did not get Super Strength. Therefore I am removing Super Strength from Vermin. There was some talk of changing his Rat Swarm Control to be worded closer to Insect control, but it did not seem to get much support. Is this something to examine further or not? Any other concerns/questions?

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

Vermin has very light SS, so he probably works a little better without it. Good call there.

I'm okay with the current take on Rat Swarm Control. The SP's looking pretty solid to me, but you still might want to throw a numeral onto Adrenaline (for reusability), like so:

ADRENALINE 4
Add 1 to Vermin's Move and Attack numbers for each Wound Marker on this card. You may not add more than 4 to Vermin's Move and Attack numbers with this special power.

Done. Also added some pictures to the third post.

Re: The Book of Vermin (Design Phase)

Rat Swarm Control needs a "you may" before "choose."
