Character Bio - The younger brother of drug lord Jack "The Candyman" Monteleone, Joey spurned the family business for petty crime. Imprisoned in Iron Heights for fifteen years for armed robbery, he discovered that he could astrally project himself into inanimate objects and animate them. He took several objects for joyrides before projecting himself into asphalt and becoming stuck. His real body remained in Iron Heights in a coma.

-Strategy, Tactics and Tips-
  • Tar Pit is a lockdown unit - get him adjacent to the enemy so Stuck locks them down, then attack the helpless figure with your more powerful attackers. Tar Pit's sturdy defense can tank a few attacks. But don't underestimate the power of Flaming Tar Throw Special Attack - when combined with The Top's Making The World Spin, if you roll a blank, it counts as a skull and reduces the opponent's defense by one! It's a useful combo in a pinch.
  • Rogues faction strategy

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (breathing)

NAME = TAR PIT
SECRET IDENTITY = JOEY MONTELEONE

SPECIES = METAHUMAN
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = ROGUE
PERSONALITY = IMPULSIVE

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 4

MOVE = 5
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 4
DEFENSE = 6

POINTS = 150

FLAMING TAR THROW SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 3. Attack 4.
Choose a non-adjacent figure to attack. If the chosen figure does not have the Lava Resistant special power, you may count one blank rolled as an additional hit.

STUCK
All small or medium opponent's figures that enter or occupy a space adjacent to Tar Pit may not move. Figures affected by Stuck cannot be moved by any special power on an Army Card.

LAVA RESISTANT
Tar Pit never rolls for molten lava damage or lava field damage and does not have to stop in molten lava spaces.

SUPER STRENGTH

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (breathing)

Skipped the last chance thread here, but this design isn't anything funky and it got good reception in my personal thread.

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (breathing)

Hate Stuck as a power but it seems appropriate here. :p No complaints.

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (breathing)

Cool. Mostly reuses. Seems pretty cool. Should be a nice lockdown piece for the faction.

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (breathing)

It feels a little weird to me that someone Stuck inside a giant dude made of burning tar is not only, like, melting, he's actually LESS likely to be burned, since he can't use his SA against that person.

But I've never heard of this guy, so I dunno. :lol: Seems like a solid Rogue piece to add to the mix. Waller will probably find a fun way to use/abuse him too.

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (breathing)

Dang...Arkham already snuck in and snagged this one. Very high on my list of really cool minis I have without a card...easily top three.

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (breathing)

The cool mini is half the reason I’m designing this one. :lol: The other half is the utility Stuck will provide the faction.

Tar Pit never really makes sense in the comics either. You’d think getting stuck in flaming tar would burn Flash but it just makes him stuck. Then Tar Pit throws a small piece of his body and it hits Flash and burns that part of his suit. :p

Glad people are liking this one.

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (breathing)

Seems like a Scooby Doo monster, so I'll have to use him when testing those designs.

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (breathing)

I'll propose to initial playtesting.

Point cost was a guess. Blob's obviously way better at 15 points more, but they're in different factions so I'm not concerned about that comparison.

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (vote for initial)

150-170 is about the range I get from him on the calculator. Never hate seeing checklists. :-D

yea

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (waiting for initial)

I definitely would want to see at least one game here with Waller/Flag/Vulture. A factional figure with Stuck is going to synergize really well with the pod busing potential provided by that bunch, having Vulture freely dump people into engagement with him.

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (waiting for initial)

The special attack seems primed to work well with Blacksmith also.

Re: The Book of Tar Pit (waiting for initial)

I've got one Blacksmith game planned, and 2 with Cold (II). I'll add a Waller build onto there. :up: Thanks guys!

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: 4 losses here, but that’s not on Tar Pit. Tar Pit is handy as a lockdown unit but in my games at least his low-ish survivability meant that lockdown utility was limited. He's no Blob! I could see a minor point drop, but I kinda want to send him to public testing as is just to see how he performs there. Individually I feel like Tar Pit did decently.
