The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor)

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): Design

He's right. About 18 different people commented on this under their name in HCrealms.

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): Design

Thanks for the confirmation Spidey. I did notice that too when I was looking at the figures. I knew I couldn't be the only person to have caught that mistake.

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): Design

Tests all wrapped up and sheet updated. I like him at 170 or 180, leaning towards 170 as a preference. Here's my pre-yea at either cost, though.

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): Design

170 sounds good. Thanks for getting this done for me. Hope you didn't neglect your moving to get this done.

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): Design

Like I said, don't get the keys until tomorrow, so there's nothing for me to do yet. :) Glad I'm getting all four of our LDs through initials before then. That was my goal. I'll likely slow down a lot in April, though, between the moving and a quick four day trip to DC starting around the 11th or so.

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): Design

That's fine. I'll be pretty busy with end of semester stuff in April and likely won't have as much time. I'll be home for the summer early in May (in time for the Avengers! :woot:) so I'll be able to pick up some playtesting in just over a month.

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): Design

Sweet. That's why I love being a playtester for you - I only have to worry about it during certain months of the year. :-D

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): VOTE for Playtesting

I propose we move to public playtesting at 170 points.

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): VOTE for Playtesting

Yea

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): VOTE for Playtesting

Just to keep track of the votes:
Down to Hahma and SirG already.

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): VOTE for Playtesting

Just need Hahma here. :)

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): VOTE for Playtesting

This passes to playtesting!

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): Playtesting

No prob. Things are flying along right now! :)

NAME OF THE TEST UNIT Peotor.

- THEME TEST/ Check to see if there are any powers or stats on the test unit card that does not accurately reflect the theme or likeness of what the character would and could do. Also consider destructible objects, and whether or not this characters powers should affect them.
Pass.

- MIRROR TEST/ Check to see if the unit were played against itself, if there would be any loops that would upset the balance of the Game.
Pass.

- BONDING TEST/ Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing Bonding abilities to make sure there are no continual Bonding possibilities that do not stop appropriately or do not stop at all. This is to prevent loops in Bonding.
Pass.

- SYNERGIES TEST/ Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing synergies to make sure there are no factors that could break the game by making any unit to powerful or too weak.
Pass. Yet another Simian to join the party!

- POWER CHECK/ Consider the test unit and all existing units and all glyphs to compare to and check for any powers that could be over amplified and break the game. Each power must define when it takes place, who or what it affects, and What are the stipulations on the power if there are any.
Pass.

- FUN TEST/ Consider whether or not the design was fun to play.
Pass.

- FUN COMPETITIVE TEST/ Consider whether or not the design was fun to play against.
Pass.

- DRAFTING TEST/ Consider whether or not this design is worth drafting.
Pass. Being somewhat of a cheaper control unit, he’s definitely worth it in lots of builds.

- USAGE TEST/ Consider whether or not all of the powers on this card were used or at least usable.
Pass. Being a control unit, all powers are useful in many different ways.

- STRATEGY TEST/ Consider whether or not the design offers any real strategy or interesting tactics to the overall game.
Pass.

Army Test
- Does it pass
, Yes or No? Yes
- What should be the unit's point value? 150-170.
- Give a brief overview. Although Peotor died fairly early, he wasn’t killed for no reason. He poses a threat just by standing around. His control coupled with a strong ranged attack proves to be something to watch out for.
Map: A City In Flames.
Units: Peotor, Gorilla-Man, and Gorilla City Warriors x3 (705) vs. Gorgon, Madame HYDRA, HYDRA Agents x3, and Bob, Agent of HYDRA (705).
Spoiler Alert!
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass
, Yes or No? Yes
- What should be the unit's point value? 170-200.
- Give a brief overview. Peotor definitely shaped up to his point value this game. He worked with his teammates to take on the entire opposition. Peotor only was engaged once, and the distractions by his teammates gave him the opportunities he needed to make the kills.
Map: A City In Flames.
Units: Peotor, Deadshot, Emma Frost, and Tiger Shark (730) vs. Red Tornado, Parasite, and Mister Freeze (730).

PASS (I like that you have both magnetism and gravity on there... since no one can decide which he has!)

- MIRROR TEST/ Check to see if the unit were played against itself, if there would be any loops that would upset the balance of the Game.
PASS

- BONDING TEST/ Compare the unit card with all possible currently existing Bonding abilities to make sure there are no continual Bonding possibilities that do not stop appropriately or do not stop at all. This is to prevent loops in Bonding.

MAYBE (Not necessarily synergies, but I have some concerns about adding ANOTHER lockdown figure to the mix. Peotor + Jean + Graviton + Spider-Girl + Magneto + Possible Future Units = SUPER tough. He might deserve a downgrade.)

- POWER CHECK/ Consider the test unit and all existing units and all glyphs to compare to and check for any powers that could be over amplified and break the game. Each power must define when it takes place, who or what it affects, and What are the stipulations on the power if there are any.

PASS (He offers a great alternative for the GCW and will, I'm sure, go great with the other Super-Apes.)

- USAGE TEST/ Consider whether or not all of the powers on this card were used or at least usable.
PASS

- STRATEGY TEST/ Consider whether or not the design offers any real strategy or interesting tactics to the overall game.

Army Test
- Does it pass
, Yes or No? YES!
- What should be the unit's point value? 200~ POINTS
- Give a brief summary. Not a great match-up, and intentionally so - Magnetic Toss is a bit strong on lava maps but should be more balanced otherwise (he toasted Cap and Bullseye, for one). I think it was KIND of close, but the real problem was Gravitational Grasp, which was BRUTAL when combined with other lockdown figures like Jean (or Graviton or Spider-Girl). A bit easy to exploit - I think lowering the range or upping the roll would be best.
Map: Dark Dimension
Units: Super-Ape, Jean Grey, Doctor Doom (595 Points) vs. Captain America, Giant Man, Bullseye (595 Points)
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass
, Yes or No? YES!
- What should be the unit's point value? 140~ POINTS
- Give a brief summary. He threw one Ape forward, but otherwise just soaked up wounds. His army dominated anyways, though... but he underperformed.
Map: Dark Dimension
Units: Super-Ape, Solovar, Gorilla-Man, Gorilla City Warriors x4 (1090 Points) vs. Professor X, Jean Grey, Angel, Nightcrawler, Banshee, Rogue (1090 Points)
Spoiler Alert!

FINAL THOUGHTS: All in all, it was a mixed bag. He really dominated the first match but was skunked in the second, so he's probably good where he's at, overall. I'd still like to see Gravitational Grasp downgraded a bit, if only because its ease of exploitation, but otherwise he's doing fine.

Thanks johnny139!

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): VOTE for Final Editing!

I propose we move Peotor to Final Editing at 170 points.

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): VOTE for Final Editing!

Mrs. Griffin is out getting her hair done and I am at the nest watching over the 4 hatchlings. I was gonna try to do this today.... but I guess I can find something else to test. :)

I am a bit sympathetic to Johnny's request to perhaps raise the roll on Gravitational Grasp. I'll let the LD decide where to take this.

EDIT: OK, I guess he decided already.

Yea

Re: The Book of Super-Ape (Peotor): VOTE for Final Editing!

Yea I am a little concerned that on a lava map he would be too cheap for his worth but ok with this costing on other maps.
