Character Bio - Part-time lover and full-time friend to Wonder Woman, Steve Rockwell Trevor has a complicated personal and heroic history. Originally a World War II US Intelligence officer whose plane crashed on Paradise Island, where he met and fell in love with Diana, Steve has played various roles, from “gentleman-in-jeopardy,” to Amazon love interest, to near superhero with memberships in groups as diverse as the CIA, ARGUS, Justice League Dark, the Justice League of America, and the Justice Society of America, and Team 7. Through it all, he’s been a daring pilot with a knack for getting out of sticky situations and a deep loyalty for his Amazonian ally.

PERSONALITY = VALIANT

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 4

ADVANCE MISSION

When placing figures at the start of the game, you may place Steve Trevor or a Vehicle in your army with Steve Trevor as its driver on any empty spaces on the battlefield within 5 spaces of your start zone.

AMAZON ALLY
After revealing an Order Marker on this card and taking a turn with Steve Trevor, if he is within 5 spaces of an enemy figure, you may take a turn with a Unique Amazon Hero you control. You may not take additional turns with other figures you control.

SKIN OF HIS TEETH
Once per round, if Steve Trevor would be destroyed by receiving wounds, you may instead remove an unrevealed Order Marker from this card. If you do, you must place or remove Wound Markers until he has 1 Life remaining.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Breathing

Looking good! I feel like 150 will be a bit high for him, but the mechanical VDO synergy might help him out there. Ez8 may be a good VDO for Steve since Ez8 is slow and doesn't like to move.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Breathing

Yeah, Ez sounds like a good one to try. I definitely want to try him in the Invisible Jet as well, and maybe the Vertical Jump Jet.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Breathing

Feels like Advanced Mission could just be like:

"At the start of the game, you may move Steve Trevor or any Vehicle he occupies up to (some number of) spaces"

or

"At the start of the game, you may place Steve Trevor or any Vehicle he occupies on any empty spaces on the battlefield that are within (some number of) spaces of your start zone."

Like he has a set distance he can feasibly have moved up to before the rest of the team gets there or whatever. Instead of being a totally random amount (or possibly no move at all) based on how big the map is.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Breathing

Well the goal was to not let him start out going right into an enemy start zone on some smaller maps.

Having an actual move happen seems like an unnecessary step, so I'd go with the second one you have there. How far do you think is reasonable for him to start outside of the start zone, though?

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Breathing

Officially in the design phase. Holding for an answer to my question above, then I'll update and run the checklists.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Design

I'd just let him move 5 spaces. The way you have it now, there are some maps where he would have to be placed in the back of your start zone. The map I test on a lot these days, Artic Redoubt doesn't have 10 spaces between the start zones.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Design

5 spaces sounds good to me. I'll update in a bit here.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Design

Nice design, really dig it. Definitely a good Gundam/VDO pilot, especially with the Wonder Woman bonding. Though him not giving any boosts to his vehicle holds him back from being the go-to pilot. Cool stuff.

Agreed that a move of a certain number of spaces is probably the cleanest way to handle it. Other similar powers work that way (Black Widow 1 maybe? I'd have to look)

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Design

5 spaces seems right. Black Widow's post-initiative move is 5 which seems to work fine

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - VOTE for Initial Playtesting

Yea I feel like letting Steve just move 5 spaces will be easier than the placement thing. I think classic’s death chasers have a power like that already.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - VOTE for Initial Playtesting

I'm not sure what benefit there is to having an additional action in the game where he makes that movement if it's a once per game thing. Why not just place him on the space instead of in the start zone (i.e. I think the way I have it in the SP makes the most sense).

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - VOTE for Initial Playtesting

Yea

The only ambiguity I can see is that the VDO rules are pretty vague about when placing a dude in a vehicle happens. Something we might want to clarify in general.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - VOTE for Initial Playtesting

This passes. I could see the timing clarity issue, yeah.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Initial Playtesting

OK, I think this does the trick:

ADVANCE MISSION
When placing figures at the start of the game, you may place Steve Trevor or a Vehicle in your army with Steve Trevor as its operator on any empty spaces on the battlefield that are within 5 spaces of your start zone.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Initial Playtesting

I think you want Drievr instead of Operator but otherwise looks good!

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Initial Playtesting

Good call. I'll update that.

UNIT SUMMARY: He feels about right at 150. Being an Amazon Sidekick is pretty useful, especially with his fairly high survivability. Outside of a vehicle his attack power isn’t great, but he’s primed to be in one.

Re: The Book of Steve Trevor - Initial Playtesting

Happy with how he's feeling. We can tweak the cost if needed, but not seeing any reason to do so yet, so I propose we move to Public Playtesting.
