Character Bio - Starscream transforms into a jet fighter and leads the Seekers, a group of Decepticons who share his body type. Treacherous and cunning, Starscream desires to overthrow Megatron and assume command of the Decepticons. He is ruthless, cruel, bloodthirsty and more intelligent than the average Decepticon, but also, unlikely to act directly on these aspirations without first securing conditions favorable to his ascension. He considers himself vastly superior to other Decepticons and finds Megatron contemptible for his antiquated military strategies and tactics. (wikipedia.org)

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

NAME = STARSCREAM

SPECIES = CYBERTRONIAN
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = SEEKER
PERSONALITY = AMBITIOUS

SIZE/HEIGHT = HUGE 15 (DOUBLE-SPACED)

LIFE = 7

MOVE = 7
RANGE = 6
ATTACK = 4
DEFENSE = 6

POINTS = 310

STRATEGIC LOYALTY
At the start of the game, you may chose one Conqueror, Mastermind, or Strategist you control to be Starscream's Superior. The first time in each turn that his Superior becomes engaged, if Starscream is unengaged and:
-his Superior has at least 4 Life remaining, roll 1 unblockable attack die against that enemy figure.
-his Superior has less than 4 Life remaining, roll 1 unblockable attack die against his Superior.
When his Superior is destroyed, remove up to 4 Wound Markers from this card. For the rest of the game, Starscream has his Superior's class instead of what is listed on this card.

COWARDLY TACTICS
If Starscream is unengaged, add 1 to his attack and defense.

FRANTIC ASSAULT
After attacking with Starscream, if he has at least one Wound Marker on his Army Card and did not inflict any wounds on the defending figure with that attack, he may attack one additional time.

FLYING
SUPERSTRENGTH

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

Here are a collection of 'comic' images. I'm not sure what the rules are these days on what is acceptable art, but these are a good representation of what I'm looking for.

Spoiler Alert!

Mini pics:
Spoiler Alert!

Background:

Just thinking any generic blue sky w/clouds could work for all 3 of the seekers as they are often seen in the air. Then like to transform to robot mode right before landing. Could also do a generic space or night sky (stars & moon) instead of day time look depending on what the comic art ends up looking like. Like if we use an image of them on Cybertron, then go with a space background for the mini.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

Cool take, very thematic. I was wondering how you were going to hit on his usurping desires but I think you nailed it.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

Hell yeah! Dig the take. Could see maybe streamlining his class call-outs a little, but not a sticking point for me. Card's super clean otherwise.

Conqueror = Megatron

Mastermind = Thought here was maybe some Cobra leadership. Cobra Commander and/or Serpentor might end up a Mastermind. Teaming up with Cobra, only to betray them seemed fun.

Ruler = Octus

Strategist = Have been planning on Shockwave having this class, set up to work with Soundwave.

Of the 4 classes, Mastermind would be the one I would cut first.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

Dude, this design sounds like fun. I've been dying to use my Starscream figure for a while now :p.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

Design looks really good. Can't wait for the Seekers to be done.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

Pretty cool take. Does it make thematic sense for the Strategic Loyalty unblockables to have no range limit?

Did we want to restrict his loyalty to Unique Heroes, or does it make sense for Event Heroes? With Event Heroes around you have some decently high life options (though Megatron at 8 Life is no slouch).

Brainiac 13 at 13 Life and 750 points could be worth trying. Or Master Mold at 10 Life and 520.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

Starscream has hitched his wagon to Unicron and such before so probably better to level it open for events.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

I figured that was likely the answer, just wanted to check. :up: Cool cool

Yes to your first question. The unlimited range combined with the unengaged requirement is a low key nod to his ability to transform into a jet and fly around as needed when not tied down by a combatant.

I'd like to leave it open for Event Heroes, for reasons SG-1 mentioned. I'm not too concerned about the pairing with a really high life figure. In the end the unblockables can be dealt with a few different ways. Engage Starscream, then engage the Mentor. Don't engage the Mentor at all. Risk the unblockable the same way you risk a LEA, then stay engaged.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

Sounds good! I appreciate your sharing the thinking behind the choices. Digging the design.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

Is there a better class than Seeker? I know it's a TF term, but do the jet dudes ever actually seek anything? Not highly objecting to it as a class, just wondering if there's a better existing term, maybe one that could give Starscream some more play options?

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

Right now he's Star Lord bait but also drawn to Conqueror/Ruler/Mastermind type synergy webs.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

I have plans for a power on the other Seekers that call out that class. Not sure I want to rope in a bunch of other figures into that synergy.

Re: The Book of Starscream - breathing

I propose Starscream for Initial PT.

Yoda - yea
Eric - yea
Bats - yea
Fret - yea
T - yea

Looking forward to seeing how this design plays.

Re: The Book of Starscream - Vote Initial PT!

Yea

Re: The Book of Starscream - Vote Initial PT!

I added this to the Outgoing Synergy section, want to make sure it looks good to others.

Starscream may choose a Conqueror, Mastermind, Ruler, or Strategist as his Mentor, potentially protecting or betraying that Mentor.

The Strategist link takes you to the Strategist with Superstrength post, I'm assuming we will just add the list of all Strategist to that same post once we get that far.

Re: The Book of Starscream - Vote Initial PT!

I know we are in the middle of a vote, but I just had a thought while putting together my testing ideas. Thinking about dropping the disengage part so it's not so easy for him to be attacking from HG with a double attack all the time. Worried with a stat booster, two ranged attacks of 7 is going to be driving the points up. So make Starscream risk the LEA after being engaged, and swarming him may keep him from running all together. But then I still want a Cowardly feel to the power that rewards him for being unengaged. So this is what I'm thinking about changing it to.

COWARDLY TACTICS
When Starscream is engaged with just 1 figure, you must move Starscream and end that move unengaged, if able. If Starscream is unengaged, add 1 to his attack and defense.

Re: The Book of Starscream - Vote Initial PT!

I wonder if the last line by itself isn't enough? He's much better if he's not engaged, which will encourage him to risk disengaging at times.
