Re: The Book of Splitting Images (FE)
HOW TO CREATE A PAIR OF SPLITTING IMAGES
To create a pair of Splitting Images you'll need two copies of a Heroclix figure that's made of transparent plastic under its paint. The card happens to use the Flash from the Elseworlds set, but there are a number of other options.
Generally, most (but not all) clix that have some sort of transparent energy effect attached to the figure are made entirely of transparent plastic. The easiest way to tell if a figure is transparent is just to look at the bottom of its feet after you remove it from the clix base, it's pretty easy to notice the difference.
Once you obtain the figures you wish to use, you'll need to strip the paint off them. I use acetone for this, but there are other options. Acetone is used as fingernail polish remover and thus available at Food Lions and Wal-Marts and pretty much anywhere. Remember to get 100% acetone. Other concentrations don't work as well.
If you're using acetone, all you need do is poor a bit of acetone into a glass (important, don't use plastic) container of some type (that you aren't planning on using for eating/drinking out of later). Then you just throw the figure (do this before you base the figure) you're using in the container and swirl it around for a 30 seconds or so. The paint should start to come off. You can use q-tips dipped in acetone to get problem areas that don't come off in the first go or dip the figure in repeatedly, just don't leave the figure in the acetone over a long period or the acetone will turn it into goo eventually. If your figure is made of multiple parts, some paint will remain in the seems. But that won't matter for this case as we'll be doing some painting anyway.
After the paint is stripped to your satisfaction and the figure has dried, you just paint the whole thing with transparent red. Tamiya makes a good line of clear paints for this. You could also do transparent blue for a Quicksliver Splitting Image, yellow for Godspeed, etc..
And that's it! Now use your new found ability to make splitting images and go pat yourself on the back.

Alternatively if you're lazy, you can get decent enough results simply painting a figure a solid semi-gloss color of your choice and calling it a day.
