Character Bio - When Earth's Mightiest Heroes fall victim to the zombie plague, Spider-Man is zombified by Captain America. Unlike many of his zombie compatriots, Spider-Man is consumed with guilt over his need to eat flesh, though he is unable to prevent himself from satiating his hunger and ends up consuming Aunt May and Mary Jane Parker.

Re: The Book of Spider-Man (Zombie) - VOTE for Initial

NAME = SPIDER-MAN
SECRET IDENTITY = PETER PARKER (CROSSOVER)

SPECIES = UNDEAD
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = DEVOURER
PERSONALITY = REMORSEFUL

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 4

MOVE = 5
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 4
DEFENSE = 3

POINTS = 230

UNDEAD RESILIENCE

If Spider-Man receives two or more wounds from a single attack, but is not destroyed, you may immediately remove up to two of those wounds.

JUST LIKE FLIES
After an opponent reveals a numbered Order Marker on their Army Card or Spider-Man rolls defense dice against an attack from an enemy figure, he may immediately use his Swing Line special power. If Spider-Man ends this move engaged with one or more enemy figures that he was not engaged with at the beginning of this move, you may immediately choose one of those figures and roll an unblockable attack die against that figure. If the chosen figure is not an Android, Construct or Undead and it receives a wound, remove a Wound Marker from this Army Card.

SWING LINE 2
Instead of his normal move, Spider-Man may move up to 2 spaces with Swing Line. When moving with Swing Line, Spider-Man has the Flying special power, but may not move up or down more than 40 levels in a single swing, and will not take any leaving engagement attacks.

SUPER STRENGTH

Re: The Book of Spider-Man (Zombie) - Design

He's going to be tough to put down! Write up looks good to me. :up:

I'd probably start him around 200?

Re: The Book of Spider-Man (Zombie) - Design

Any other thoughts before I move to initial here. I still want to get Noir and Zombie into the wave so I need to keep them moving :D

Re: The Book of Spider-Man (Zombie) - Design

Definitely a powerful one. He reminds me of Jason with the free movement and autowound potential, and I know Jason is one of our stronger competitive figures. So he's one to watch closely I think.

But he looks like a lot of fun! Definitely a thematic looking design.

Re: The Book of Spider-Man (Zombie) - Design

I mean, I like it. :p

He keeps more of his edge against SS-heavy armies and has more mobility, but otherwise he's pretty strictly worse at what Jason does. (Especially with Undead Resilience vs one of the other Resiliences)

Re: The Book of Spider-Man (Zombie) - Design

The key is that 5 Life. He can still get one shot on a botched defense roll and a high skull attack
Once he gets to 3 wounds, UR is useless unless he heals.

Re: The Book of Spider-Man (Zombie) - Design

I propose we move to initial testing here.

yea

It's meant to be read in the manner of Charles Martinet.

yea

Units: Spider-Man Zombie (210), Spider-UK, Spider-Man Spider-Verse, Miles Morales II, Spider Army Recruit (1000) VS Fantastic Four
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
Map: Artic Redoubt (1 random glyph in the Fortress)
Units: Spider-Man Zombie (210), Superior Spider-Man, Spider-Man Norn, Spider-Woman (Ashley) (800) VS Crime-Master, Toxin, Doppelganger, Street Thugs x2 (800)
Spoiler Alert!

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: He feels pretty good as is. Was a bit worried about his passive nature, but there as enough ways to bypass Undead Resilience that I'm no longer concerned. The healing from Just Like Flies does help him stick around, but it's not too hard to take down a 5 life 4 defense figure in a turn or two.

Re: The Book of Spider-Man (Zombie) - Initial

I propose we move to public playtesting!

C3G DUAL PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM

NAME OF THE TEST UNIT Spider-Man (Zombie)

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Maybe?

- What should be the unit's point value? 230-260?
- Give a brief overview.Spidey and Jason really laid the fear on thick here. Spidey swung around biting the crap out of the other army and was completely the MVP here since Hellboy and Blade were a bit more focused on Ernie and Fire which they paid for in the end.
Map: Grundy's Grave
Units: Evil Ernie, Zombie Spidey, Jason, Judge Fire, 6xRoamer (1,100) vs Hellboy II, Blade, Lobster Johnson, Barry Allen (JL), Sandman DC (1,100)
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? No

- What should be the unit's point value? 350-400
- Give a brief overview. Zombie absolutely dominated and even focusing on him only resulted in hurting your own figures and healing Zombie.
Map: Grundy's Grave
Units: Judge Death, Scorpion, Grundy I, Zombie Spidey (1,000) vs Spidey, Thing II, Luke, Jessica Jones (1,000)
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes

- What should be the unit's point value? 230
- Give a brief overview. Spidey was much more manageable here, but that might be partly because Sentry is such a powerhouse and Void is a direct counter to Zombie Spidey. Ended up pretty close though.
Map: Grundy's Grave
Units: Zombie Spidey, Beast (Avengers), Moon Knight (Avengers), Dr Strange (Avengers), Wasp (Avengers), Detective Chimp (1,200) vs Sentry, Void, Ozymandias (1,200)
Spoiler Alert!

Splash's THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: The moment I saw Ronin’s write-up however long ago I was super excited for Zombie Spiidey, (I loved the Marvel Zombies books). Initially I very much wanted to see Zombie Infection, but a power that does that much might be hard to cost, plus Headpool doesn’t have it so I'm more okay with it not being there. Marvel Zombies would probably make a lot more sense as an Event card anyway and tickle’s take is more primed for fun Spideyverse combos.
I think the powers on this card are perfect, the moment we played our first game and I saw Zombie Spidey and Jason shambling up I was a bit scared. Just Like Flies is really fun, I like that it's a passive movement and when defending. Steadily swinging to his next meal, the healing is fun too. Undead Resilience is a perfect reuse. Of course Swing Line ties him in with Spiderverse and gets him some fun movement.
The first two games he destroyed the competition and did well over 400points of damage each time I think. The issue is he was only taking at most one wound, when he even did receive a wound, and then when he is wounded he often heals it right off in the same turn. His Life was lowered to 4 for our third game and Sentry took him out pretty quick (I wasn’t taking any risks), so he’s not good against figures that can rip through his defense in one go, but other than that the Undead Resilience/Just Like Flies healing feels like an unstoppable pairing for large armies and medium to low level figures.
As is, I would either have him at 4 life and accept he will sweep some games (cause the life being lower wouldn’t have made a difference in the first two games) and he could be costed at at least 240-250 (actually 240 would be a nice 300pt block with Headpool). 4 Life is also kinda neat cause most of the Peter Parker Spider-Men are 5 life and it’s kinda like he lost a life and came back.
Or I would also drop the Defense to 3 and then he might be worth closer to 210, after all he basically functions as a scarier, buffed up Jason right now so not caring as much about defending yourself or dodging and just zipping to someone and taking a bite out of them to heal wounds instead would be more of an undead thing to do.
One last option, albeit less fun, would be keep everything the same (5 Life, 4 Defense) and drop the healing and he’d probably again come in around cost at 210. I don’t recall any zombies actually healing from eating people, I think they just had that hunger craving from the virus. It's a super fun idea and fun to play, but it would be more accurate to just let him hit the people, know he’s eating a chunk out of Vulture or somebody, but not actually healing and keeping himself in the game forever.
So that’s the 3 options I can think of, I honestly don’t think I have a preference. Overall, kinda broken/not fun to play against currently, but otherwise I love this design.

Karat's THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: He's fun and unique but can be overwhelming. The change definitely had an impact as when he fell had he still had one more life he would have survived. He is definitely draftable and has a large impact simply by being so passive. I think he might be closer to 230 after these tests.

Honestly, Splash and I are a bit concerned with just how easily he is dishing out damage. in just the last game alone he did 80% of the damage to both Spidey and Jessica, 66.66% of the damage to Thing II and 20% of the Damage to Cage and all but one of those wounds was passive. Even focusing on him didn't help much as consistently I would roll 3 skulls and he would just bite someone and heal it back off while weakening them. He really seems like you need a medium/long ranged multi-attacker and/or auto-wounder or you're essentially a lunchable for him. We decided to hold on the last game pending changes, if any.

My recommendation would be to lower his life or defense some or make it harder for him to be so passive like a space restriction or lower the movement on it as he is moving around quite a bit.

Seems like he is fun to play but a lot less fun to play against right now. Feels like he plays a bit like Jason so far but feels more resilient since he actually gets defense.

Re: The Book of Spider-Man (Zombie) - Testing

Having toy test with one fewer life. Might raise the points after that if needed.

Re: The Book of Spider-Man (Zombie) - Testing

We can run the last at 1 fewer life too.
