Character Bio - When hard-boiled detective Jim Corrigan ended up at the bottom of a river, his soul's cries for justice were heard by the archangel Michael. Bonded to the Spirit of Vengeance, known as the Spectre, he was condemned to stalk the Earth and punish evil-doers in the name of God. For decades he has fought the villains of the world, as a member of the Justice Society, alongside the All-Star Squadron, or simply as an eternal, merciless agent of The Voice.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

NAME = SPECTRE
SECRET IDENTITY = JIM CORRIGAN

SPECIES = ENTITY
UNIQUENESS = EVENT HERO
CLASS = ADJUDICATOR
PERSONALITY = VENGEFUL

SIZE/HEIGHT = HUGE 8

LIFE = 12

MOVE = 7
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 5
DEFENSE = 6

POINTS = 650

SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE
Once per round, when a Unique Hero you control in clear sight of Spectre is destroyed by an opponent's attack, you may move any unrevealed Order Markers from the destroyed figure's Army Card to this card. For the rest of the round, add X dice to Spectre's normal attack, where X equals the Life number of that destroyed figure, up to a maximum of +5.

WITHERING GAZE
If Spectre is attacked by an opponent's adjacent figure that does not have the Fearless personality and at least 1 skull is rolled, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 14 or higher, Spectre takes no damage, the opponent's turn immediately ends, and you may remove one unrevealed Order Marker at random from the attacking figure's Army Card.

INTANGIBILITY
Spectre can move through all figures, Fortress Walls, and obstacles, and is never attacked when leaving an engagement. Spectre cannot be targeted by opponents' non-adjacent figures for any attacks or for any opponents' special powers that require clear sight.

I prefer the first one.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Looks good! I think Spectre works alone though so Crime Fighter should be changed to something else.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Yeah, I feel like Spirit would probably be most apt for him (like with Ghost Rider and Uncle Sam).

Looks good to me otherwise, though I'm not 100% sure if he's technically "Undead" in the traditional sense.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Agree with the others here, Spirit is the better class, & maybe Entity for the species. Otherwise good design :up:.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Also, I'm pretty sure that the Crisis sculpt of Spectre is WAY more than Medium 5. Probably closer to Large 8 or 9.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

That's the sculpt we want for this design, and, yeah, it's at least Large something. I can get the height when I'm back in NY next week, since I've got this mini.

Design is really cool. :)

He does work alone a lot, but he was also a member of the JSA for a long time, so I don't think Crime Fighter is inaccurate to that degree.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

I'm digging the write up. He looks like a fun, and B.A design to me.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Medium 5 was a place holder. I prefer Undead, and think Crime Fighter fits him really well.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Undead means his common foes will be Blade & Buffy :poorpost:.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Huge target on him to prevent him rolling up to 9 attack, 10 with height, 11 with height and Cap, etc.

Attack needs a 'c' in the first power.

Sure, but between Intangibility, Withering Gaze, 5 life, 6 defense, and potentially allies that can hit nearly as hard, you can make enemies pay for targeting him.

Undead I can live with, but I... well, I've been meaning on having this discussion for a while, but is Crime Fighter really the best fit for the JSA? It's already been co-opted as having an entirely different meaning between Spider-Man, Speedball, Luke Cage's power... Spectre doesn't really fit in with those guys. (Or Alan Scott or Jay Garrick or Hourman or Hawkman for that matter.)

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Hmm .... well if you have any better suggestions than Crime Fighter (which fits the JSA as a class, if not in its Marvel synergies) now is the time to suggest it.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Not to interrupt Spectre's thread, but I've been thinking along the same lines as johnny. Crime Fighter fits the JSA well, but it's going to give them a ton of crossover with Luke Cage's gang, and I'm not sure how much we want that. Especially if you're going for lighter synergy on the JSA, Luke's bonding will be tough to ignore.

Back to Spectre, the design looks solid. SirG's right that the opponent will want to take him out before he can use Spirit of Vengeance, so it'll be important to play him with Allies that are bigger targets or protectors. Bizarro and Superman (I) would probably be nice fits.

I'm kinda iffy on Undead as well, but it doesn't feel too far off.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

"Mystery Man" could work, as that's an old-timey sort of term for those sorts of heroics. Or something like "Icon." But I can't really think of anything that's really good. :shrug:

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

I'm going to start a separate thread to discuss class in the JSA, since it'll contain some necessary spoilers I don't want in this thread.

Judge or Adjudicator

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

:lol: I was just thinking Adjudicator. Judge wouldn't work due to the Dredd issue.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Updated SP with Adjudicator and the "c". Also removed the synergy from OP.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

I think I'd still prefer Spirit for a Class. Overall I think we're good for an initial, though.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

I am still very much against Undead as the species, actually maybe we could use Spirit as the species.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Spirit is already in use as a class, though. Entity would be most appropriate... for the Spectre, at least, pretty sure Jim Corrigan is just a Human.

Re: The Book of Spectre(Design Phase)

Yeah, he's not an Undead in the sense that our undead hunters should be able to hurt him easier. I support Entity.
