Character Bio - Silver Samuari is a Japanese mutant with the power to charge almost anything, most notably his katana, with mutant energy (described as a tachyon field) which enables it to slice through any known substance except adamantium. He also sports a suit based on traditional samurai armor. It is made of a silver metal, hence his name. He became a professional criminal, was once the bodyguard for the international terrorist known as the Viper, and was subsequently an occasional mercenary. On one of his jobs, he recovered Viper's teleportation ring.

COUNTER STRIKE
When rolling defense dice against a normal attack from an adjacent attacking figure, all excess shields count as unblockable hits on the attacking figure.

Looks good! I think his normal attack could be 5, though, especially since his special attack is so nasty.

5 life/5 defense with Counter Strike seems pretty solid. I wouldn't outright oppose 6 defense, but I'm not sure it's needed. Definitely like 5 attack, though.

Nice!

Glad you stuck with Mercenary for the class. If you up his defense to 6, you could always lower his life to 4. Would give Counter Strike a little more weight.

On my original design I had a range of 3 to represent ninja stars, ala Hand Ninja but that isn't crucial. So a bump to 5 for him normal would make sense to make that a viable option vs using that nasty special.

Yeah, this is all GP and Tickle's work here. The only thing I did was synthesize the two where they differed.

Since his Katana can't cut through Adamantium, those figures (Wolverine, Lady Deathstrike, X-23, Ultron) should be exempted from the reduced defense dice.

If the power were to read:

Figures without the Adamantium Claws special power subtract 2 from their Defense number when defending against this special attack. After attacking with this special attack, Silver Samurai may use this special attack two additional times.

that should do it--Ultron can't have his Defense number reduced and adding in the exemption takes care of the rest.

I really like this design.

But not a samurai? Mercenary has some cool synergies, so I get that.

Winter Soldier isn't a soldier, US Agent isn't an agent, Silver Samurai isn't a samurai. What's this world coming to?!?

The write up for Vigilante in the public design thread isn't a Vigilante either.

Trickster also isn't a Trickster, but he at least is Tricky.

OK, then I would still recommend that the power be worded in terms of Defense number so as not to nerf Ultron.

Ronin would be more technically accurate, which is a samurai for hire but Mercenary is better for faction synergy.

Is that something that makes thematic sense? The only X-Men character I've seen Silver Samurai connected to is Wolverine. But, I have a very cursory grasp of most Marvel stuff.

Yeah, but the justification there basically seems to be "wouldn't it be neat if we could have a ton of Mercenaries" rather than "Mercenary is the best possible class for Silver Samurai and he really fits in with these other guys thematically."
