The Book of Shadows Over Gotham Scenario

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - Final Editing Phase

I don't even have the VirtualScape up yet, so I wouldn't worry about it. I'll send that over to Tickle and get it uploaded.

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - Final Editing Phase

So is the scenario ready to be released and we're just waiting on a map revision?

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - Final Editing Phase

Yeah, that seems to be it. Once the Sewer Entrance is updated (and this with it) we should be ready to finish her up.

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - Final Editing Phase

Cool. :) Good work, guys! I'm glad you've kept working and have seen this through.

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - Final Editing Phase

I finally sat down and played the scenario. Here are the highlights:

First attempt at the scenario:

Ok, the adrenaline was pumping and I lost my mind. Penguin and Black Mask forgot they were supposed to team against Team Batman before going after each other. Penguin did make a noble effort, though. He coptered down into the sewer for an ambush attack on Alfred. Very bad move, because Robin and Batman popped into action to take out Penguin.

Meanwhile, Black Mask decided to take on the Thugs at street level instead of going for Batman. He successfully took down a complete squad. However, Penguin's Thugs took the high concrete spaces near their start zones, and gunned down Black Mask with their +1 height and +1 Rule the Streets. The surviving Thugs on both sides were no match for Team Batman, so I decided to start the game over with a new strategy where Team Black Mask and Team Penguin must co-operate if they are to stand a chance against Team Batman.

Second chance...

Alfred is incredibly vulnerable anywhere you place him. I positioned Batman and Robin to approach up the upper-right section of the sewer, but that allowed two of Penguin's Thugs to snipe down at Batman from the battlements above! They completely blew that opportunity with lousy attack rolls.

Penguin took Self Importance turn, broke engagement with Robin (taking 1 wound) to Copter over him, then gunned Robin down with his Umbrella Gun. OUCH!

Thugs at the battlements had better luck against Batman, and delivered 3 wounds from above. Note that Evasive Strike wasn't applicable, because the Thugs are completely out of clear sight behind the battlements, even though the Thugs can use the battlements as a target point to fire below!

Since Penguin had a great position to take down Batman, Black Mask decided to break the truce and attack Penguin. He dealt 2 wounds (1 life left for Penguin), but Criminal Motivation cost him two of his Thugs.

Batman took down Penguin with Evasive Strike.

Black Mask took down Batman, and gained Harley Quinn. Only 2-life Alfred and 3 of Penguin's Thugs remain, but I'll play through to the end this time.

Game ends at the end of Round 3. Survivors: Black Mask, Harley Quinn (3 wounds from Alfred's shotgun!), 6 Street Thugs.

Final Thoughts

Team Batman messed up by not giving Alfred the first order marker in Round 3 to field extract Batman. The approach up the top right of the sewer was also a failed idea, because I didn't factor the battlements.

What I love about the scenario is that all three teams really have to play carefully. Team Black Mask and Team Penguin must cooperate or lose to Batman. I still feel after two games (well, I should've played the first to completion) that I need to adjust my strategies for the teams. That adds to the replayability of the scenario.

Oh, and one other thing. Alfred kicks butt. I really need to learn to play him better, but he really defended himself well in both games.

PDF updated.

Cheers

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - Final Editing Phase

Alright, I'll trust our favorite mapmaker's advice on the map and PROPOSE SHADOWS OVER GOTHAM FOR RELEASE!

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - VOTE for Release

I haven't actually kept up with this Scenario at all so I'll abstain from the vote.

Cheers

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - VOTE for Release

I updated the title on the OP with the map in it:

The Book of the Shadows Over Gotham Scenario

A C3G Scenario with the map of The Sewer Entrance

Yea for Release.

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - VOTE for Release

This was a fun, relatively quick playing scenario.

Yea for Release.

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - VOTE for Release

Everything looks good!

Yea

Re: Shadows Over Gotham: C3G Scenario - VOTE for Release

This has passed! Awesome job leading this, Johnny!

So it is!

Title updated for consistency with the other books; the first post, though, should it remain as-is? Out of the other one-shots, Odin's Challenge keeps the rules text, but the Hostage Holdout doesn't. None of the Master Set Scenarios do.

I think it would be better with just the Scenario "bio" & maybe a one-liner in story fashion of what the goal is.

You know, like a TV ad & this is the voice over that is enticing you to buy! :D

Hey Scape, are you going to start making the map PDFs?

The typos I noticed were in the OP. If they were also in the PDF, nice catch!

Hey Scape, are you going to start making the map PDFs?
This is the first I've heard about this. I'm glad to take on the challenge, I'd just need to learn. A3n, are you taking on less art priorities? Again, I had not heard of this being mentioned beforehand.

First I heard also.

It could be about time though that you learned.

I am more than happy to. Shoot me a PM and we can set up a time to instant message on Skype so you can teach me, if you' like.

It probably won't be until this time next week. Just make sure you have InDesign installed.
I've got InDesign.

Next week is absolutely fine. I've got finals tomorrow and Friday so this week isn't ideal as it is.
