Character Bio - "Katherine Anne "Kitty" Pryde was born in Deerfield, Illinois to Carmen and Theresa Pryde. Of Jewish descent, her paternal grandfather, Samuel Prydeman, was held in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. Kitty started to have headaches at age thirteen, signaling the emergence of her mutant powers. She was approached by both the X-Men's Charles Xavier and the Hellfire's Club's White Queen, Emma Frost, both of whom hoped to recruit her for their respective causes. Kitty was unnerved by Frost, observing that the White Queen had looked at her as if she were "something good to eat." She got along better with Xavier and the three X-Men who escorted him to his meeting with her and her parents, becoming fast friends with Ororo Munroe. Ororo told Kitty who she really was and about the X-Men, which made the teenager even more enthusiastic about attending Xavier's school (...) Kitty is a mutant with the ability to pass through solid matter by altering the vibratory rates of her atoms: passing her atoms through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which she is moving. In this way she and the object through which she is passing can temporarily merge without interacting, and each is unharmed when Shadowcat has finished passing through the object. This process is called phasing, and it renders her almost completely intangible to physical touch. Shadowcat passes through objects at the same speed at which she is moving before she "enters" them. Since she is unable to breathe while "inside" an object, she can only continuously phase through solid objects (as when she travels underground) as long as she can hold her breath. However, contrary depictions of the duration of her phasing ability have been presented, such as when she has phased miles within an object. The use of her abilities also interferes with any electrical systems as she passes through by disrupting the flow of electrons from atom to atom, including the bio-electric systems of living bodies if she concentrates in the right way. This typically causes machines to malfunction or be destroyed as she phases through them, and can induce shock and unconsciousness in living beings" (www.wikipedia.org).

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

Design looks good, though we will probably end up editing the wording some.

The first pic is too busy and the third pic is too out of character (the mini doesn't have swords and I have never seen her use swords). So the second pic is best IMO.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

There isn't a mini with swords, sure, but while looking on Comicvine, I must've found about five or six pictures of her with swords (most featuring Lockheed too prominently), so I wouldn't say out of character.
Does anyone have any pictures of any Shadowcat minis, btw?

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

Apparently, she has martial arts abilities because of a recent possession with a Japanese demon or something.... so it is at least out of her ICONIC character.

Besides her mutant powers, Kitty is a genius in the field of applied technology and computer science. She is highly talented in the design and use of computer hardware. She is a skilled pilot of piston and jet engine aircraft, and a competent pilot of certain advanced interstellar vehicles. She has previously shown a unique ability to wield the Soulsword and also be harmed by it. Since her possession by the ninja demon Ogun, she has been consistently shown to be an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, having since been endowed with a lifetime of training in the martial arts of Japanese ninja and samurai, such as aikido, karate, and ninjutsu. She is also trained in the Israeli martial art of Krav Maga. She is a professional-level dancer in both ballet and modern dance. She speaks fluent English, Japanese, Russian, and the royal and standard languages of the alien Shi'ar, and has moderate expertise in Gaelic, Hebrew, and German.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

I think the design looks good, but I don't really like any of that comic art. There has to be something better out there.

I don't know whether she should be a Protector or an Adventurer, both seem to fit her so you just need to decide if you like her in a Fan4 build or not. I don't really see her working with the Fan4 as much so I'd lean towards Protector probably.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

Yeah, I'm leaning towards Protector for the same reasons. I don't think the Fan Four need her. If you can find better comic art, bring it on. :)

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

.... I don't like either of the CLASS options, but I am at a loss.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

Sweet yes ... but I'm not sure she's that innocent ... We could go old school ... Merciful, maybe?

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

Cool. I like the design. :) Another cheap Mutant option. She'll definitely have her uses on maps with castle walls, etc. I'm assuming she can walk through Evergreen Trees too.

The second comic art is the best one, but it isn't saying much. There's got to be something better available that shows her phasing through something.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

Like I said. Feel free to look, guys. :) I scoured Comicvine and this is the best I saw there. There were a few phasing ones on there, but none that were usable for other reasons.

I like Innocent, and I think it would work VERY well for her. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for us because Billy's PERSONALITY is Innocent.

Still, there has to be something better than protector.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

Why can't her personality be Innocent as well?

Class...:ponder: time to check the index

Who was talking about Innocent for anything but her Personality? I mentioned Merciful as a possible alternative to her current Personality (Daring) ... but was only talking about her Class with Tickle thus far. And what's wrong with Protector and even Adventurer? I think they both fit her pretty well.

Class...:ponder: time to check the index

I just don't feel like it fits her very well, personally ...

She is a Young person who has almost always been portrayed as an innocent non-violent person who would prefer to avoid fights than engage in them.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

The first one is the right idea, but is it large enough?
I'd prefer to avoid one with Lockheed since we're not including Lockheed in the design ...

Edit: I found that one too, Tickle, but it didn't seem large enough ... is it?

I think Merciful covers that better - she would prefer not to engage in fights, but it's not like she's never done anything wrong, and she's certainly not completely naive (and innocent does carry that connotation).

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

The one I found could probably work. It was the best I found on comicvine. Griff's first one is definitely a good one though.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

Additional comic art options linked to OP.

Re: The Book of Shadowcat - Design Phase

I think the personalities already covered and maybe Loyal and Bold would be two more possibilities.

I really can't think of anything better than Adventurer or Protector.
