Character Bio - Seeking revenge after his father was killed by drug dealers, Rory Regan stumbled upon a box of rags in his father's pawn shop. The rags covered his body, turning him into the Ragman. Each 'rag' is actually the soul of an evildoer defeated by the Ragman and bestows the wearer of the suit with the strength and power of each soul. When a soul has payed its time, it leaves the suit and enters the afterlife, allowing each soul the chance at redemption. Rory uses the power of the suit to avenge his father's death and then to fight crime in the slums of Gotham City.

PERSONALITY = TORMENTED

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 4

RAG SUIT OF SOULS
When an opponent's figure within 6 clear sight spaces of Ragman is destroyed by a figure you control with a normal or special attack, you may place the destroyed figure on this card if it is not an Android, Undead or destructible object. A maximum of 5 figures may be on this card at any time. After attacking with Ragman, you may remove a destroyed figure from this card to attack 1 additional time.

YOUR DEBT IS PAID
If Ragman is attacked by an opponent's figure that does not have the Magical Defense special power and there is at least one figure on this card, the most wounds Ragman can take for this attack is one. If the attacking figure has the Magical Defense special power and at least 1 skull is rolled, instead of rolling defense dice, you may remove one figure from this card and ignore the attack.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

I'm digging this write up, he will dominate a lot of squaddies and low life/defense hero's.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

I think we may need to limit the figures on the card to 3. Otherwise, he could be crazy powerful with Your Debt Is Paid.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

Good looking design! I like it. The two defense powers seem a bit redundant, but I think it works.

I'd prefer if we didn't give it a cap, but it's a definite concern. I'd wait and see how he plays in the Initial before changing it. Something to keep in mind, certainly.

Maybe drop his Defense a bit? And is Vigilante the best class for him? Otherwise I'm good.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

Cool design! I don't know the character. Defense 3 plus his two defensive powers might not be a bad idea, yeah. The initial will probably tell better!

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

Yeah, I think dropping his defense is a good idea. It opens him up to at least possibly taking wounds more often.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

I'm cool with Defense of 3.

I like Vigilante as his class (he's definitely worked with Robin before, and operated in Gotham a bunch).

I think we might want to consider giving him Rag markers instead of putting figures themselves on his card, and just having a max of three Rag markers, both for power balance, and so we don't have to worry about overlap with figures like Ghost Rider.

Eww, markers. :p

Honestly I think it works perfectly with Ghost Rider as-is both mechanically and thematically. I feel it's an area to tread lightly but using destroyed figures as "souls" is too perfect to delegate to markers.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

Fair enough. I can go with them struggling over the souls in a D20 square off.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

Both Ragman and Ghost Rider would be putting figures on Ragman's card. I think that's very interesting although I would like to see a max.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

I have been worried about having 2 defensive powers, so 3 defense is a good change.

I'd prefer to leave off a cap unless the initial shows he's too strong. With only a single attack, unless he's facing a swarm of common figures, it'll take a while to rack up figures on his card and he'll end up burning a lot of those just to stay alive. Dropping his attack 1 is another option.

I like the figures over markers, and Vigilante seems like the best class to me.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

Bear in mind that he has to kill the figures to get the Suit (and thus get to use Debt... Paid. As a low-powered mid-level hero, I doubt he'd get more than a single figure often in a game of Superscape anyway... Which may pose another problem entirely (fun factor).

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

I like the attack of 4 still.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

I like the write-up & the 2 original powers but not the Magical Defense on their. There is very little incentive to use YOUR DEBT IS PAID until he is down to his last life. It takes the strategy out of it & you might as well remove YOUR DEBT IS PAID & give him an extra 3 lives.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

I don't see that as a bad thing, since he very well may take 2 or 3 wounds on his way to destroying a figure to begin with! :)

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

I just don't see it's worth having those 2 powers together.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

I just don't see it's worth having those 2 powers together.

Against a figure without Magical Defense, I wouldn't use Your Debt Is Paid until he had only 1 Life remaining so I definitely see A3n's point. Something should change so there's more of a strategic choice happening.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

I could see dropping Magical Defense. How adept is he at using magic?

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

His powers and abilities are magical in nature, but from what I've read, he doesn't strike me as someone who's very strong in or even uses magic all that often. I could live with dropping Magical Defense, but I think the design would need some major changes*. Without Magical Defense, it's just going to be way too hard for him to get any momentum in destroying figures and his powers are useless until he does.

*Going with markers and starting with some on his card, maybe.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

If people don't like Magical Defense and Your Debt is Paid together, here's some options:

Dropping MD:
RAG SUIT OF SOULS
Start the game with 3 green Rag markers on this card. Add one to Ragman’s Attack Number for each Rag marker on this card up to a maximum of +3 attack. When Ragman destroys an opponent's figure, you may replace 1 previously removed Rag marker.

YOUR DEBT IS PAID
If Ragman is attacked by an opponent's figure and at least 1 skull is rolled, instead of rolling defense die normally, you may remove one Rag marker from this card and ignore any wounds that would be received.

With alternate RSoS:
RAG SUIT OF SOULS
Start the game with 3 green Rag markers on this card. Before attacking with Ragman, you may remove a Rag marker from this card to add 1 additional skull to whatever is rolled. When Ragman destroys an opponent's figure, you may replace 1 previously removed Rag marker.

Or drop YDiP (which I think is a more thematic power than MD):
RAG SUIT OF SOULS
When Ragman destroys an opponent’s figure, you may place the destroyed figure on this card. Before attacking with Ragman, you may remove a destroyed figure from this card to add 1 additional skull to whatever is rolled.

Re: The Book of Ragman - Design Phase

What about leaving YDIP as is & change RSoS like:

RAG SUIT OF SOULS
When a figure you control destroys an opponent’s figure within 6 clear sight spaces of Ragman, you may place the destroyed figure on this card. Add one to Ragman’s Attack Number for each destroyed figure on this card up to a maximum of +3 attack.

Either of these powers work for me if MD is dropped (which I am for). YDIP has to stay. It's really thematic and works great for him.
