Character Bio - A beacon of hope to mutants the world over, Professor Charles Francis Xavier is among the most renowned public heroes on Earth. At an early age he discovered his vast mental powers of telepathy, and thus coupled with natural intellect led to his earning a scholarship to Oxford University, where his intelligence only grew further. As an adult, Charles met a young Erik Lehnsherr, a Holocaust survivor and, like Xavier, a mutant. The two became fast friends, but their political differences were too great, and the two soon parted ways. While Charles hoped that mutants and humans could live in peace, Erik felt mutants would be feared and hated like so many other “different” people in history. This schism would be the dawn of a lifelong struggle between Xavier and Erik – or as he would later be known, Magneto.

Over the years, Charles became a world renowned scholar, geneticist, and psychologist, despite becoming a paraplegic not long after his split with Erik. It was his fame that led to the foundation of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters; recruiting young mutants, he began to train them to control their powers and use them for the good of mankind. Known as the X-Men, these youths – Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman, and Angel – first did battle against Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

Since then, the X-Men have only grown, and with them, Charles’ mission. He is no longer simply a teacher, but an icon to mutants around the globe, who look to him as a symbol of what mutantkind can achieve.

-Strategy, Tactics and Tips-
  • Suggested army - Original X-Men: Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman, and Angel (1000 Points)
  • In an all mutant army, Professor X is invaluable due to his Mutant Mind Link giving double activations.
  • Psychic Defense X works on attacks against both Professor X and nearby allies, so consider keeping him close to your main attackers.
  • Angel is great at moving Professor X around the battlefield and keeping him safe from multiple attacks.
  • Professor X doesn't have to see his target to use his Telepathic Blast Special Attack, so hide him behind Line of Sight blockers when attacking whenever possible.

MUTANT MIND LINK

After revealing a numbered Order Marker on this card, instead of taking a turn with Professor X, you may take a turn with up to two different Mutant Unique Heroes you control or one Unique Hero you control. Professor X cannot be one of the Unique Heroes. Any Unique Hero that is taking a turn instead of Professor X must be within 10 spaces of Professor X before moving.

TELEPATHIC BLAST SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 3. Attack 3 + Special.
Professor X does not need clear line of sight to attack with this special attack. Add 1 to Professor X's attack dice for each Telepath you control adjacent to Professor X up to a maximum of +3 dice. Figures with the Mental Shield special power and destructible objects are not affected by this special attack.

PSYCHIC DEFENSE X
Once per round, if Professor X or any friendly figure within 3 spaces of Professor X is attacked by a figure that does not have the Mental Shield special power, and at least 1 skull is rolled, you may reveal an "X" Order Marker on this card. If you do, the attacking player's turn immediately ends and the attacked figure receives no wounds.

In my opinion, it would be better to hide all of our progress on Professor X from the public. This will generate some excitement around our "Promo" figure. If it's the first time anyone besides the C3G crew gets to see it, it makes it kind-a special.

Not sure how we'd handle that, though ... Any thoughts? It's still a public forum.

Edit: And Prof X still needs playtesting and an eventual "Book" :p

We can do it via PM or even via Facebook, maybe.

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

Hmm ... that seems unlikely. I think it's enough that people will have to go "digging" for it. I mean, it's enough to get enough people to gather on here sometimes - getting everyone to gather on Facebook would be difficult, and doing it on PM would fill our inboxes too quickly.

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

Is it difficult, or even possible, to get a private thread that only C3G members get access to on Heroscapers?

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

I could just "break" the link in the X-Men thread to this thread ... but anything else you'd have to ask Aldin. :p
We did just get a subforum, though, I'm not sure how kosher it'd be to ask for a subforum for this subforum, you know?

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

I'll hold off on updating the first post here until we move everyone else to playtesting at least (or the heroes, anyway).

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

I have a great idea.

I have a few Google 'Wave' invites... That would be a perfect place for this to happen on the quiet...

7 invites but who would get them...?

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

Well, we have 6 heroes, and 2 are already on Google Wave. So that leaves only 4 invites needed...

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

Great - how do I put myself in position to receive such an invite ... and what's Google Wave?:grandfather:

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

Google Wave is like a combination of forums, email, and IM. You have an inbox that shows different topics, just like your email. But they are stored on a server, like forums are. Unlike forums, you don't see everything, just the stuff you're added to. These things are called "waves". A wave can be added to simultaneously by different people, and it all updates in real time. You can attach documents to a wave, and playback the history of a wave to see what was added, deleted, and changed. You can also discuss in realtime, just like IM.

You can read it about it more here.

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

OK, sounds cool. So kind of an alternative forum to discuss "secret" stuff. Would we basically use that just for our promo figures?

I would say we should only use it for the Promo figure and other possible surprises. We don't want to take away from our community effort.

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

I agree. But why are we discussing this in the Professor X thread???

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

Because Prof. X. is the promo figure?

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

So has the Professor X wave been started? I was going to do the interim card but nothing was here.

Cheers

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

Not yet. I plan to start one once World's Finest is in the bag ... though I suppose it doesn't hurt to work ahead, so ...

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

Btw, are you over on the Waves, Necro? If so, you're not one of my contacts, which I need to fix ...

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

OK, I think everyone's over on the wave now ... which is good, because I just made a proposal to move what's up on Professor X into the playtesting phase!

Re: Professor X C3G X-Men Master Set

Message to Griffin, Balantai, Spidey'tilIDie, and Whitestuff: One more yea vote on Professor X (as seen over in his wave) will pass him over into playtesting.
So you might want to check him out!

OK, I guess I will go over there...:?
