-Rulings and Clarifications-

  • [*]Q: If Abigail Brand makes a figure an Agent, is it still affected by Agent Coulson's Something to Avenge special power?
[*]A: Yes. Coulson's power lasts the whole round, it doesn't matter when a figure is made an Agent.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
After revealing an Order Marker on this card, instead of taking a turn with Phil Coulson, you may choose one of the following:
  • Move up to 4 Unique Agent Heroes you control up to 5 spaces each.
  • Take a turn with any 2 Unique Agent Heroes you control, during which they cannot move, and you may not take any additional turns with other figures you control.
  • Take a turn with any Unique Agent Hero you control, and you may not take any additional turns with other figures you control.
Chosen Agents must start their turn or movement within 6 spaces of Phil Coulson. Phil Coulson may be one of the chosen Agents.

SECRET WEAPON SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 3. Attack 3.
Figures roll 3 fewer defense dice against this special attack. This special attack may only be used once per game.

SOMETHING TO AVENGE
For the entirety of the first round after Phil Coulson is destroyed, all friendly Unique Heroes that are Agents or have an Avenger Marker on their cards add one to their Attack number.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

Really dig this write up. Unsure if I like Inspiration as the name for that last power, don't have anything better though.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

Just to clean up the wording on the last power, I think this works a bit better:

AVENGERS INSPIRATION
When Agent Coulson is destroyed, at the start of the next round, all friendly Unique Heroes that are Agents or have an Avengers marker on their card add one to their Move and Attack numbers for the rest of the round.

I don't mind the name, but we could always go a bit more poetic with it. "HEROIC LEGACY" or "SOMETHING TO AVENGE" maybe.

My only other thought is that, as an Agent leader, he might be a bit too good? Like, Nick Fury has the double turn thing, but Coulson is way more flexible, and that might outclass him, which I think would be unthematic. Maybe have him focus exclusively on Agent Heroes? And then cut down the number he can move?

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

He's cool. Seems real powerful, almost more than Nick Fury, if that's what we're going for.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

I'm intending for Coulson to just be an Agent Hero leader, so I have no problems with cutting out the squad interactions entirely. Nick Fury gives full Hero + Squad bonding, while Coulson is intended to give limited Hero + Hero bonding (either movement or attack, or just OM flex). So Coulson is definitely better at leading solely Agent Heroes, but Fury seems like a superior overall SHIELD leader & Agent squad leader, if that makes sense. Fury's also got the drop power, which is really good.

I'm cool with a name change on the last power. Not really feeling any of those suggestions, but I'll support whatever if the majority likes a certain name.

And I'll update that wording, johnny, thanks!

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

Going with Agent Hero only synergy and leaving the Agent Squads for Fury seems like a good way to give them their own lane.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

I'd definitely slap some no additional turns language on there. Currently, you can use Brand to make Red Skull an Agent, then use Coulson to do a turn chain.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

I like the change to remove squads. Not sure having him in an Avengers build is worth it at all. He's really powerful in an all-agent army, and having others is basically a liability to the team. Not sure if we'd want to push for that in a little better way or not. Seems like basically wasted space though, even though I love the power.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

You can give the Agents Avengers Markers though. Cap, Coulson, Black Widow seems like a good start on an army build. Brand could make Hulk and Agent.

Or you can just go all-in on Agents and focus solely on his as a (very good) leader. He can't lead non-Agents. Sure you can cheese people in with Brand (Apparently, I don't know that design), but he's not great alongside pure Avengers.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

Awesome, glad everyone is on board with the hero-only direction.

The Avengers marker callout is basically flavor text. It refers to friendly heroes so that if you run an Agent army and your ally runs an Avengers army, you also boost his figures when Coulson falls. It's not something you should really build an army around, unless you've got a huge army or you're throwing in a couple cheap Avengers.

These are the wording updates I'll make once the breathing period is up:

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

I don't know how his portrayal changed over time, but early on he seemed much more hands on. So, I wonder if maybe butting a range restriction on his bonding wouldn't help separate him a bit more from Fury as Agent leader figures.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

Digging this.

Also good call on range restriction. I like Coulson having to be in the mix. Seems right.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

Good call, I'll add that in. Gonna go with 8 spaces, which offers plenty of flexibility while preventing Coulson from just camping in the start zone. Coulson has a lot of "2 pronged attacks" in the show, where he and some agents do one thing while a second group does another thing, so I wouldn't want the aura too low.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

Oh, if anyone has mini pics that would be awesome. Didn't take any of mine before leaving home.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (breathing)

Don't think I have a Coulson mini, so can't hit this one myself.

Re: The Book of Agent Coulson (vote for initial)

Calculator says about 160-170 for him. :2cents:

Yea contingent on some checklists. :p
