The Book of Mister Terrific (Terry Sloane)

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

Maybe ....

CHAMPION OF ALL THINGS FAIR
If an adjacent Mystery Man, Prodigy, or Civilian you control is attacked and rolls no shields, the defending figure may re-roll all defense dice once.

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

:oops: Much better, thanks!

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

Adjacent is tough to maintain and wiffs are somewhat rare(though not with Civilians). Any chance some range can be added to CoaTF?

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

I'd be fine with putting a range on it.

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

4 clear sight spaces?

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

That figure movement part of MoaTT seems real obnoxious... slightly concerned there.

What's the thematic justification for those powers, by the way, out of curiousity? I guess the die roll manipulation is just "I'm really smart" (though it seems a bit powerful for that - look at Doctor Fate as a counterpoint), and the other is... being strategic?

Deductive reasoning. I suppose we could manipulate the range to reduce it's impact.

The themes of MoaTT are: physical prowess, mental acuity, and deductive reasoning

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

Here's where I think we are at currently.
NAME = MISTER TERRIFIC
SECRET IDENTITY = TERRY SLOANE

SPECIES = HUMAN
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = MYSTERY MAN
PERSONALITY = VALIANT

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 4

MOVE = 5
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 4
DEFENSE = 5

POINTS = ?

MAN OF A THOUSAND TALENTS
Before taking a turn, choose one of the following to be in effect until the next time you reveal an Order Marker:

  • When Mister Terrific attacks with a normal attack or defends against a normal attack, you may re-roll any dice that show blanks once per roll; or
  • When Mister Terrific or a figure within two spaces rolls the 20-sided die, you may add or subtract one 1 from that roll; or
  • Choose an opponent’s figure within 5 clear sight spaces of Mister Terrific and whenever an Order Marker is revealed on the chosen figure's Army Card, you may immediately move Mister Terrific or a friendly figure within clear sight of Mister Terrific up to 4 spaces.
CHAMPION OF ALL THINGS FAIR
If an adjacent Mystery Man, Prodigy, or Civilian you control is attacked and rolls no shields, the defending figure may re-roll all defense dice once.
Any other comments here or are we good to move forward?

The precedent here is to use the numeric form for this.

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

I'd still prefer to see CoaTF combined into MoaTT, but otherwise I like the direction.

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

What are we thinking for points? My guess is high 100's to low 200's.

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

Yeah probably 160-180? Hard to say since his biggest value is in support.

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

I'd aim for mid-100s personally. He's just a normal dude with a big brain - street-level is appropriate. Sub-Batman for sure.

Sure, thematically. But based on what's in the write up, I think he's probably high 100s. So do we want to make any tweaks to take him down just slightly before the initial?

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

Maybe a bump down to 4 defense?

Also, two quick questions/thoughts:

Choose an opponent’s figure within 5 clear sight spaces of Mister Terrific. Whenever an Order Marker is revealed on the chosen figure's Army Card, you may immediately move Mister Terrific or a friendly figure within clear sight of Mister Terrific up to 4 spaces.

I'd prefer to go "figure you control" there instead of friendly. If we're not going to test in a multiplayer setting, we shouldn't just go friendly willy-nilly.

CHAMPION OF ALL THINGS FAIR
If a Mystery Man, Prodigy, or Civilian you control within 3 clear sight spaces of Mister Terrific is attacked and rolls no shields, the defending figure may re-roll all defense dice once.

I'm assuming this does not affect Mister Terrific?

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

Dropping to 4 would be fine by me. I don't mind seeing how he plays first and hashing it out after the initial, though - up to 180 or so is fine by me.

Let's just start him at 150 and see where he trends from there.

I tend to see them as synonymous as I rarely get to play with someone else let alone multiples :lol:..I'll update it

Correct. He's covered under his other power if he chooses that option.

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

Cool. :up: That last point probably makes him a tad weaker than my initial assessment. I agree that we should test him, see where he's at, then make adjustments.

This is definitely one where you'll want CRB suggestions as I could see some potential for poddiness.

Hmm

I'll look more in depth later but first thought was Anarky + a whole mess of Civilians.

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

So do you pick a Talent each time you take a turn, or each time you take a turn with Terrific specifically?

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

My intent was before taking a turn with Terrific.

Re: The Book of Mister Terrific - Terry Sloane (Design Phase

Might be less confusing if it triggers at the start of each round.

Other Option

Just add a "reveal an Order Marker on Mister Terrific".

Hmm, not too worried about him then. The 20-sider part is a lot less useful that way; I guess you could build an army with a lot of passive D-20 powers (Warmachine and such), but you'd basically be wasting a turn going with this guy and that range is hella short. Likewise, the movement power is ok, but probably not worth giving up a turn on this guy for. The re-roll attack and defense part makes him a decent slugger, but it's not like there is a shortage of those.

Man of a Thousand Talents becomes more interesting if we get someone that can bond with him and really benefits from a D-20 boost or 'counter movement', but I'm not aware of anyone like that off-hand. Ms. Marvel, Robot, and such can activate MOATT for 'free' now, but I'd think they'd usually have better things to do.

Things might also get a little weird if there is ever a way for him to get multiple turns in a row, since I guess he could have two effects active that way, but I doubt there will ever be a way for him to do that.

That leaves Champion of All Things Fair as his main power at the moment IMO, and I can't see any real potential for abuse there.
