Character Bio: (by TheAverageFan)
Daemon, son of Timothy of the Weston guard, stared out at the wind-whipped tundra before him. Nothing. There was always nothing. The great northern fortresses of Jandar had many artifacts of great value, even in a smaller outpost like this, but it would be madness to try to take them, so far north of the war as they were. But outposts needed guards, even if it was more out of principle than anything. Daemon sighed and continued his walk further down the walls. Always nothing ...

A guard with keener eyes might have seen the small army down below right outside the castle walls: white-clad soldiers lying prone, hiding amidst the snow and winds. No one would have tried to break in. No one but Vydar.

Two of the soldiers pressed tightly against the wall, handling their rifles and hand-gesturing to the others. A third crawled up and stuck a brick of semtex to the fortress, “Deploying C4.”

While Daemon made his rounds above waiting for time to pass, the troops below checked their synchronized watches, also waiting. At 12:15 on the dot, Vydar would make his move across all of Valhalla.

Power Ranking
They're a 4 figure ranged squad, and they can toss in a high-damage ranged special each turn. Do you need to know more? A-

So I tried out the Troopers today, and was extremely impressed. They might not look that great on Paper, but the almost always garanteed attack of 4, +3 attacks of 2-3 is pretty awesome. No height for opponents is just icing on the Cake.

I do find it funny that these are the perfect counter to the Microcorp Agents, because they really need height to be effective.

Vydar's Betrayal thematic army

Microcorp Troopers x3 240
Raelin 80
Augamo 155
Kursus 55 (or Marcu for 500 pts)

Total: 530

The microcorp troopers form the bulk of this army, so that's why they're posted in this thread. With four defense boosted by Raelin and an immunity to height advantage, these guys can reliably defend against some of the toughest figues in the game (Q9, Stingers, WTF mass). Add in the fact that they get three ranged attacks of two and one of six, and I see them packing a huge punch.

For whatever these guys can't handle such as big heroes especially dragons we have Augamo. With his huge defense (it can also be boosted by Raelin, but doesn't have to be) he can serve as a roadblock. His special attack dispatches rats with ease and allows him to get to units that trouble the troopers such as KMA or cheerleaders.

Kursus serves as a cavalry unit. He has more mobility than the rest of the army with the exception of Raelin, and is great at dispatching swarm armies that would give my costly squadies trouble.

As always, any comments are appreciated.

Actually, if you want a thematic Vydar's betrayal Army, you should drop Raelin and add either a fourth squad of Troopers or Agent Carr for 550. Raelin is too loyal to Jandar to join in the Betrayal. ;)

It's still a great Army though!

Actually through testing, I found that dropping raelin and the monkey for Laglor makes this army great. An eight ranged four man squad, general wars here I come!

I hope you weren't playing them with 10 range; Laglor's aura only adds 2.

Woops sorry I played them with 8, I just wrote the wrong number here. Still the point is they outrange stingers, mass etc and can get startzone shots on the first turn on some maps!

For the online team event, one army we considered but didn't actually use was:

Microcorp Troopers x3
Laglor
350

Microcorp Agents x3
300

Seemed like a fun army with crazy long range. We decided against it because there were no heavy snow boards in the pool.

You wouldn't have been able to use it, anyway; putting the same card in more than one army was illegal. ;)

Still, it's true that that would have been pretty sweet.

Nope they're different units, so it's fine.

~bobinchese, redeeming his oversight

Let's kick AU while he's down! ;)

That does look like a pretty solid combo. I would be scared entering an event with no melee or screen, though, because Beakface Sneaks and Phantom Knights would be brutal.

I just played against the Troopers for the first time last night, and I really enjoyed the game. HWSA creates some interesting strategies that are very different from WTF or other ranged squads. I was playing wyrmlings, so I was often trying to set my placement where my more valuable targets would not be in a spot where HWSA would be possible (assuming I could get a kill on a 3v0 attack with a Red Wyrmling, anyway).

Cool stuff.

The second page of the PDF is showing up as about 3 times the size of the first page when I go to print. Didn't we have this problem with another Army Card? Or am I hallucinating (again)?

Hoplitron, Cathar Spearmen, Microcorp Troopers, and the Nhah Scirh Cultists all currently have this problem (there might be more). Unfortunately I have not figured out how to print these out without the basic side being enormous. Any thoughts here?

Okay, our C3V Art Machine has redone those 4 PDFs, and I have re-uploaded them to their respective proper places. Please try downloading them all again and see if that fixes it for you.

Thanks for letting us know!
