THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: She’s going to be a lynch-pin figure in water/Atlantean army, while also offering a lot of versatility with Aquakinesis. Balance-wise, she feel fine to me. Aquakinesis is good, but D20 reliant and that keeps it in check. I underestimated the strength of the Atlantean faction, and pitted them against some slightly weaker armies in the third and fourth games. Even given that, with the strength of the faction and the potential for it to become even better with the addition of the other Aqualad and/or an Atlantean squad, I’d like to see her cost raised slightly, or the range on LoA lowered to 4.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Very cool, and offers a few different strategies. I didn’t use LoA for the Attack boost at all, but I played more conservatively with Aquaman. Playing more aggressively with him, to get the later Attack boost would also be a valid strategy, especially as more Atlanteans are added. Very fun! I really like the way she’s turned out so far.

Re: The Book of Mera (Initial Playtesting)

Great tests TB, thanks!

In game #3 you mention Hydro-Man, but Hydro-Man isn't listed in Mera's army.

I like the idea of lowering the range of LoA to 4. That keeps Mera's cost lower so you can fit other Atlanteans in your army, as well as keeping both "aura" powers (LoA and Aquakinesis) at 4 range.

Re: The Book of Mera (Initial Playtesting)

I don't have any concerns, although I agree with TB that she should have range.

Re: The Book of Mera (Initial Playtesting)

I don't have any concerns, although I agree with TB that she should have range.

Actually, I was suggesting that the range on Love of Atlantis be lowered. With Aquakinesis, I don't really think she needs normal range.
@Arch-vile, if you're happy here, we just need an updated SP and a proposal for public testing.

Re: The Book of Mera (Initial Playtesting)

SP updated so that LoA is at 4 range. Points are kept at 200 for now.

I propose that Mera is moved to Public Playtesting.

Re: The Book of Mera (Vote for Public PT)

4 might be a bit much, but I'm willing to see how it plays out, but if it proves to be too hard to pull off, I'd like to see it raised to 5 spaces for LoA. Yea

Re: The Book of Mera (Vote for Public PT)

abstain just haven't followed this close enough.

Re: The Book of Mera (Vote for Public PT)

This passes on time.

Mera is now open for public playtesting. :)

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: 200 points seemed about right in my games. Mera is super useful to an Atlantean army.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Mera plays so nicely with the other Atlanteans, she can throw other Atlanteans like Namor onto water to help set things up.

Re: The Book of Mera (Public Playtesting)

Nice tests ZJ, thanks! Mera is still looking to be a bit on the stronger side.

ARMY TEST 1

Did the unit perform adequately? What should be the unit's point value? Give a brief summary.
Mera didn’t have a chance to do much, since she was slain early on. I will play the Atlanteans differently in my next match - I underestimated how quickly the Yellow Lanterns would reach the Atlanteans and how quickly they would kill them. Oddly enough, Mera is the easiest to kill Atlantean (besides Aqualad).

ARMY TEST 2

Did the unit perform adequately? What should be the unit's point value? Give a brief summary.
The Atlanteans again struggled to stay together, mainly because of the Amazon heroes’ lassos. Mera was useful once her d20 started working, but I could definitely feel that the Atlanteans lacked a certain synergy the Amazonians had. I think Mera is a very playable hero - she can hold her own and offers a lot to an Atlantean army. But right now, in my experience the Atlantean faction can’t seem to match up with some of the other factions. However, the other testers (with far more C3G experience than I) have done really well with Mera, so this leads me to believe that the Atlantean faction is simply tough to play. It’s terrain dependent, but one can control that with Tempest & Hydro-Man. It’s also dependent on keeping the Atlanteans together - for Mera’s aura, Namor’s Avenging, Aqualad’s bonding, and Aquaman’s Healing. It’s a tough army to play but I can’t shake the feeling that if I played the Atlanteans again, I’d have learned from my mistakes and do better. So in conclusion I’m pretty happy with Mera as-is.

Re: The Book of Mera (Public Playtesting)

That Amazon army is tough. I tend to avoid Wonder Woman(and Spider-Girl) in playtests because of their power negating ability. It is hard to evaluate a neutralized figure. You really could use Hydro-Man or Tempest in those armies.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: Mera definitely adds a nice synergy between the Atlanteans. I struggled with the best way to use her in this particular game, because I was trying to setup the water tiles with Tempest and Hydro-man before acting with her and Aquaman. Unfortunately, while this took place, they got the jump on Aquaman before he was in water, and Mera's defense once he is gone just doesn't stand up for long. She did some decent damage though, held her own, but ultimately it was just too late.

Army Test 2
Map: City Park
Units:
Mera, Aquaman I, Hydro-man, Tiger Shark, Oracle (970)
vs.
Magneto, Destiny, Gorgon, Venom (960)
Spoiler Alert!

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: This was a much closer game. I made sure Aquaman got onto water right away after Hydro-man laid down a couple spots. Magneto was going to prove to be a tough challenge, throwing them off water, but luckily Aquaman hit a powerful attack on him to kill him off quickly. Gorgon closed the gap, missed the Stone Gaze roll on Mera, but landed a 20 on Aquaman. Mera is tricky, because you aren't sure to keep her as support, or move in on the attack, or both, but she did her part by killing off Gorgon when he failed his PS12. However, my overall feeling is she's definitely a tougher figure to use effectively, but will prove her worth when used correctly. Aiding Aquaman is a plus, and then bringing in the attack power once he is gone is nice. My only wish is that she had a bit of range ability with her attack when on water, but she manages without it.

Re: The Book of Mera (Public Playtesting)

Thanks Aggressive Sock. Your analysis seem pretty similar to my own thoughts. I'm pretty happy with Mera as-is. She can be a powerhouse but the Atlanteans are tricky to use right now. If an Atlantean squad or (un)common hero is ever created, Mera's usefulness will skyrocket.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: (She never hit her points for me but that's probably because I never used her offensively. so I think her points are good.)

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: (She makes a fun backup unit. I don't have any problems with her.)

Re: The Book of Mera (Public Playtesting)

Thanks Asterius, great tests.

Now we have a good collection of tests, does anyone have any overall thoughts on how to proceed from here? I think Mera is looking good as-is, but she may be a tad on the strong side. Regardless I don't think she breaks anything at 200 points.

Re: The Book of Mera (Public Playtesting)

I'd like to see her cost bumped 10 or 20 points, just to play it safe (she's done pretty well in the tests and she'll got stronger if we add more Atlanteans). Otherwise, I'm ready to see her move forward.

Re: The Book of Mera (Public Playtesting)

Yeah, considering the potential for expansion in the Atlantean faction, I'd like to err on the side of caution here.

Re: The Book of Mera (Public Playtesting)

Yeah, a small bump to her cot or the Aquakinesis roll seems like a good idea.

Don't forget to include Sock's tests in the OP.

Re: The Book of Mera (Public Playtesting)

Thanks guys.

I propose a vote for Final Editing at 210 points.
