The Book of Maxima

Re: The Book of Maxima (Final Editing Phase)

I thought we were still waiting on mini pics here but I guess not. @japes, how do those posted above look to you?

Re: The Book of Maxima (Final Editing Phase)

I completely drop the ball on this one. I'll get right on it.

Re: The Book of Maxima (Final Editing Phase)

Looks like they're up. Thanks japes!

Cards look fine to me. My main question is whether we want to go green/yellow (her outfit) or green/red (her hair). I'd like to see the red, but I also don't like the color yellow, so I may be biased. :p

Re: The Book of Maxima (Final Editing Phase)

I think the green/yellow looks good.

Re: The Book of Maxima (Final Editing Phase)

Green/yellow works for me. It's garish, but in a way that fits. No strong opinion if you'd rather change it though.

Re: The Book of Maxima (Final Editing Phase)

I thought about red, the reason I didn't pursue it was that the color red on the mini was ... bright. The comic wasn't as bad but if we are matching the mini. I'll try it later and see.

Re: The Book of Maxima (Final Editing Phase)

I mean, if no one else has any objections, it's probably just me. :p I suspect in the end we'll stick with yellow-and-green so unless someone else pops in here with a push for red, I'll just propose for On Deck tomorrow.

Re: The Book of Maxima (Final Editing Phase)

Looks like that's a no, then. :p I'm happy with the art as-is, so I PROPOSE WE MOVE TO ON DECK!

Some FAQs. The first one is take-it-or-leave-it, but the second came up at one point in the thread and definitely seems FAQ-worthy.

Q: If no other figure on the battlefield has a higher Attack number than Maxima, can Maxima still choose a Mate? What if the figure with the highest Attack number does not have the Super Strength special power? For example, if the only other figures on the battlefield are Captain America (6 attack, no Super Strength) and Scorpion (5 attack, Super Strength)
A: In both of those scenarios, Maxima cannot choose a Mate. When choosing a Mate, you must choose a figure that does not have a lower Attack number than any other Unique Hero on the battlefield and also has the Super Strength special power. If there are multiple such figures, you may choose any one of them. If there are no such figures, you cannot choose a Mate.
Q: Do attack boosts from figures like Bane or Star-Lord affect what units Maxima can choose as a Mate?
A: No, because Seeking a Mate references the Attack numbers listed on cards. When determining the Unique Hero with the highest Attack number, any special powers that add to or subtract from attack should not be taken into account. The only caveat here is Mister Sinister: because Sinister's Genetic Manipulation replaces the value on a card rather than modifying it, Sinister's power may influence who can be chosen as Maxima's Mate. If Mister Sinister alters a figure's Attack number, consider the altered value as the Attack number listed on that figure's card.

Otherwise done with EPB checks

The second one looks good, but I'm not sure the first one was johnny's intent with the power (but you're right that the wording would work that way). We may need to change the second sentence to: "The chosen figure must be the Unique Hero with the highest Attack number listed on its card among Unique Heroes with the Super Strength special power on the battlefield".

The first one is definitely my intent. There's three "must" clauses in the first two sentences - has Super Strength, has the highest Attack number, and is not Maxima. If those three conditions aren't fulfilled, it's not a valid choice, and the power fizzles out.

Do we want to reword it any? We'd have to do some pretty major restructuring, I think, since there's already a lot of words there and I don't think adding more will create and more clarity.

I think we're okay with just the FAQ. I don't immediately have a cleaner wording that preserves the current mechanics.

Those FAQs seem to clarify everything and fit with johnny's intent, so let's just stick with adding those.

I've noticed an error in the Rulings and Clarifications:

Q: If no other figure on the battlefield has a higher Attack number than Maxima, can Maxima still choose a Mate? That's all well and good... except Maxima has an attack of 5; so, by definition, in that situation, she could choose Scorpion.

As I'm reading (could be mistaken), Scorpion doesn't qualify because Captain America has 6 attack. The "highest attack" clause doesn't seem to care about Super Strength and as such you must still compare attack against any non-SS unique hero.

In other words, there must be a unique hero that has the highest attack AND that figure must have super strength. It is not enough to simply be the highest attack among unique heroes with super strength.

Oh! Okay, I've got it now - thanks. :)
