Now that there are more soldiers he's one of the best figures to pump up figures besides the romans (that (romans) he's mainly suppose to work with) like 4th mass., greeks, etc. Also, His 6 life helps him survive and be a good pumping figure to last long.

Absolute favorite Hero so far. Perhaps, when they release the Vampires or someday Pirates, this will change, but Marcus just rocks. He boosts my favorite army, has great staying power, and was my first CONGS character, along with the subject of my first Heroscape Fanfic. Love 'im.

I am Marcus Decimus Gallus, leader of the IXth Roman Legion, defender of the great and just city of Rome!

I've only used Marcus once(because I don't have the Romans and I feel it's kind of a waste to use him without the Romans) but when I did use him, I was playing PoF and his last wave was 3 squads of zombies, while I had Marcus and 1 squad of Roman Lego's. Long story short, he was my last figure (but died) and every turn he would kill a zombie(he ended up killing probably 10 zombies, since they have the 'Rise Again' ability) I want to use this guy more now since he seems to be a great figure.

If they ever make a figure with a power similar to Parmenio's disciplined influence, except for Valiant influence. Marcus and the 4th Mass together would be bringing down the house.

I like Marcus! His sculpt is awesome! Last night I used him to boost me E.I. for attack and movement while the Empress helped them out on Def.
I was holding a spot in a scenario we were playing.

Agreed about the sculpt, and that seems like a great team for the task. How did it work out?

Very well, my opponent had Vydar units... The only 2 I was worried about were Carr and Murphy... He held them back and tried to use agents to thin out the line. I had one squad of E.I. with the holding group and the other out attacking the agents. When it was Murphy and Carr left, they were easily mopped up by Kiova and her Imperium.

Now that I finally got some Romans( :p ) I love this guy!!!! He has a complete beast and has great staying power. He is the reason I was able to kill a Charos with my Legos.(Four attacks of four on five defense was deadly) And that +1 move to ALL soldiers is great! :D Overall, I give this guy a......

Again the official (spider_poisen) ranking was not posted as it is in most of the books, but here it is now on page 3! :D

Again you nailed Marcus pretty well, GForce.

When I play a 600 point game I use 1 Empress Kiova 1 The Einar Imperium 1 Eldgrim the Viking Champion 1 Airborne Elite 1 Marcus Decimus Gallus and 1 Kaemon Awa I has worked wonders for me.

Crimany I love this guy. Most the time I find him to be a better cheerleader than anything......just surrounding him with 6 Minutemen makes for a crazy buff, even better with Raelin standing behind that hex of death.

I read this thread and could not find an answer to my question. Is Marcus DG's shield painted or does it have stickers like the romans. I just got my romans and was shocked to see that the shields are not painted. They are stickers. WTF. I'm sure going to give them a custom paint job. I also just ordered the Heroes of Bleakwood (with March DG of course) from Amazon and I was wonder if Marcus DG's shield is a sticker or pointed. I also noticed the of figures in wave 1 compared to other waves that I got before have lower quality. My Romans were all bent out of shape and hopefully my Marcus DG is not like that.

Legio IX Hispana ("from Hispania") was a Roman legion probably levied by Julius Caesar before 58 BC, for his Gallic wars. The legion disappeared during the reign of Marcus Aurelius in the 2nd century, probably destroyed. The legion's symbol is unknown, likely a bull, as other legions created by Caesar.

Quoted from Wikipedia.
That's my only problem with the "defender of Rome" bit, because it was, in the day, illegal for a Legion to enter into Rome, to keep away rebellion/rising to power, and of course, Julius Caesar did it with his legion and he eventually became Emperor.

Sometimes the facts are really great, especially when they are side by side with the game, it makes it really fun. But I'm not so hot with the "defender of Rome" bit unless he means he is "Defender of the Roman Empire."

Yeah, I don't have a problem with the Marvel characters in the slightest. They change the game, but every wave has done that. They allow for local superiority, but if their opponent can bring enough of his reserves to bear, they go down if you spend the effort.

Their largest advantage is local superiority, they will be better than whatever they go up against (with a few exceptions), the problem is leveraging that into a victory when they are so outnumbered.

The ones that aren't more than 250 points (Cap, Spiderman, Dr. Doom, Iron Man, Venom) aren't much better than anything you could get for that price in non Marvel figs, and in many cases have fewer life than you would expect for their price.

Once in a Marvel game I took out the Hulk by holding him down with Major X17 and sending in a few Blastatrons, then shooting him with the remaining Blastatrons.

In more relevant news, don't forget Marcus' benefit to Captain America as a soldier!

The 10th Foot, as Soldiers, get both his SOLDIER LEADERSHIP / SOLDIER ATTACK ENHNCEMENT bonuses.

Just another bump for Marcus as more and more soldiers are introduced to the game.

** These bonuses are already listed in the Book of 10th Regiment of Foot.

I just had a good idea for Marcus:

Marcus: 100
10th Regiment x3: 325
Sacred Band x2: 425

You still have room for something else, too, or you can add another 10th Regiment.

The Band gets the disciplined army bonus, and the bonding can keep Marcus by your Brits, enhancing their wait, then fire!

Unfortunately I don't have any of them, so I can't test it.

But it's darn good in theory!
Well, unless you play against Zelrig....

I'd swap out the Band for the Romans (for defense) and put in Raelin. The 10th have a relatively low def. and Raelin is THE best character to change that.

It frustrates me that almost every one of my armies that has Raelin and Sacred Band requires me to swap out a squad of 10th + the usual filler for Parmenio just so that the Band is not too sensitive without Raelin's aura, since she probably won't be on the front lines with them, especially since I usually spread them out.

If I don't do that, I have to put in the Romans, but I don't have them and the Band works better with the 10th since they can spread out and the 10th usually stays put for WtF.

I am going to attempt to enumerate the "tier 2" (to use Jexik's terminology) Marcus/Warlord + Soldier armies that max out at 24 hexes. The only non-warlord/soldier figure I'm going to throw in is Raelin, because, hey, it's Raelin.

It's a simple menu; pick one from each of:

Ranged Squads:
Airborne Elite (110)
10th Regiment of Foot x2 (150)
10th Regiment of Foot x3 (225)

Melee Squads:
Sacred Band/Roman Legionnaires x1 (50)
Sacred Band/Roman Legionnaires x2 (100)
Roman Legionnaires x3 (150)

Warlords:
Marcus (100)
Marcus + Me-Burq-Sa (150)
Marcus + Ne-Gok-Sa (190)
Marcus + Me-Burq-Sa + Ne-Gok-Sa (240)

And then, optionally, add on Raelin (RotV), for 80 more. A couple rules to cut down on illogical builds:
  • I won't go Romansx3 without at least one Marro Warlord for bonding, and I won't put in more warlords than bonding squads.
  • I won't use the AE for range alongside 3+ melee squads.
So, that leaves Marcus plus...

260 = AE + SB
300 = 10thx2 + SB
310 = AE + SBx2
340 = AE + Romans + Raelin
350 = 10thx2 + SBx2
360 = AE + Romansx2 + MBS
380 = 10thx2 + Romans + Raelin
390 = AE + Romansx2 + Raelin
400 = AE + Romansx2 + NGS
400 = 10thx2 + Romansx2 + MBS
425 = 10thx3 + SBx2
430 = 10thx2 + Romansx2 + Raelin
440 = 10thx2 + Romansx2 + NGS
440 = AE + Romansx2 + MBS + Raelin
450 = 10thx2 + Romansx3 + MBS
455 = 10thx3 + Romans + Raelin
460 = AE + Romansx2 + NGS + Raelin
475 = 10thx3 + Romansx2 + MBS
480 = 10thx2 + Romansx2 + MBS + Raelin
490 = 10thx2 + Romansx3 + NGS
505 = 10thx3 + Romansx2 + Raelin
515 = 10thx3 + Romansx2 + NGS
520 = 10thx2 + Romansx2 + NGS + Raelin
530 = 10thx2 + Romansx3 + MBS + Raelin
540 = 10thx2 + Romansx3 + NGS + MBS
555 = 10thx3 + Romansx2 + MBS + Raelin
570 = 10thx2 + Romansx3 + NGS + Raelin
595 = 10thx3 + Romansx2 + NGS + Raelin

The astounding thing about this list is that there are only two duplicate point totals (400 and 440 points), yet there's only one gap of more than 20 points after 340 (between 400 and 425).

I bolded the combos that seem strongest to me. They follow a simple rule: armies that contain MBS and have a 1:1 Romans:Warlords ratio. Here's that condensed list:

360 = AE + Romansx2 + MBS
400 = 10thx2 + Romansx2 + MBS
440 = AE + Romansx2 + MBS + Raelin
475 = 10thx3 + Romansx2 + MBS
480 = 10thx2 + Romansx2 + MBS + Raelin
540 = 10thx2 + Romansx3 + NGS + MBS
555 = 10thx3 + Romansx2 + MBS + Raelin

Warlords:
Marcus (100)
Marcus + Me-Burq-Sa (150)
Marcus + Ne-Gok-Sa (190)
Marcus + Me-Burq-Sa + Ne-Gok-Sa (240)

And then, optionally, add on Raelin (RotV), for 80 more. A couple rules to cut down on illogical builds:

I suppose that you can make an argument for Parmenio in stead of NGS, and Sacred Band in stead of Romans. Well, maybe not in most cases, as Parmenio is a much less useful figure than NGS. But when you can take advantage of Parmenio's disciplined influence, I suppose it's possible, at least when you think you will be facing Zelrig, that you would downgrade from NGS to Parmenio in order to upgrade from Romans to Sacred Band. So, that adds Marcus plus...

460 = AE + SBx2 + Parmenio + Raelin
520 = 10thx2 + SBx2 + Parmenio + Raelin
570 = 10thx2 + SBx3 + Parmenio + Raelin
595 = 10thx3 + SBx2 + Parmenio + Raelin

Um... not sure if anyone has noticed this, but the 10th Regiment aren't in the beginning of the book, listed under bond recipients. Just pointing it out for everyone.
