Its model number and name are #086 / Mad Thinker.

_________________________________________________________________

Character Bio - The Mad Thinker has spent his life discerning the future by calculating all of the known variables he can possibly think of. Using these calculations, he can predict where lightning will strike, where a person will step, or where a bullet will hit. Not wanting to battle superpowered foes personally, he employs robots and traps to deal with those he has calculated would interfere with his plans.

After turning to a life of crime from boredom, the Thinker set his sights on the Fantastic Four. He brought all the powerful crime bosses to New York City in order to become the 'King of Crime' as their leader. With his massive collection of computing machines and his incredible mind he planned to take over the city and make it a separate nation with him in control. In an elaborate scheme, he was temporarily able to divide the Fantastic Four and gain access to their headquarters, the Baxter Building. With Reed's technology he created the Awesome Android and turned it against the Four. He was defeated when he failed to plan for what Reed Richards called the 'X-Factor,' or the unknown, when Reed had a safeguard and deactivated all of his weapons. Once captured, the media dubbed him 'the Mad Thinker', which he despised. (ComicVine, 2011)

-Rulings and Clarifications-
  • Q- Can I use Mind Games at the start of my turn even if I use Android Affinity to take a turn with someone besides Mad Thinker?
  • A- Yes, you can. Mind Games activates "before taking a turn", and since you're still taking a turn when using Android Affinity, you may use Mind Games. In addition, Mind Games would be used before choosing whether or not to use Android Affinity, since Android Affinity activates "instead of taking a turn", while Mind Games activates before the turn.
  • Q- If I use Android Affinity to remove an Order Marker to get a second turn, do I get to use Mind Games a second time that turn?
  • A- No. Mind Games requires you to "reveal" an Order Marker, and since Android Affinity "removes" an Order Marker, it can't trigger Mind Games. Mind Games only triggers when the initial Order Marker is revealed on Mad Thinker's card.

NAME = MAD THINKER
SECRET IDENTITY = JULIUS

SPECIES = HUMAN
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = GENIUS
PERSONALITY = CALCULATING

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 4

MOVE = 5
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 2
DEFENSE = 5

POINTS = 160

MIND GAMES
After revealing a numbered Order Marker on this card, before taking a turn, you may choose an unrevealed Order Marker on an opponent's Army Card. That opponent must place that Order Marker on another Army Card they control, if possible.

ANDROID AFFINITY
After revealing an Order Marker on this card and instead of taking a turn with Mad Thinker, you may take a turn with a Unique Android Hero you control. Once per round after taking a turn this way, you may immediately remove an unrevealed Order Marker from this card and take one additional turn with Mad Thinker or an Android Hero you control with the Weak Minded special power.

Design before reevaluation:
Spoiler Alert!

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

ADVANCED PLANAfter rolling for initiative, you may choose any two unrevealed opponent's Order Markers to look at. After using Advanced Plan, you may move one Order Marker from any card you control to any other card you control.

You probably want to put something in there like "after rolling initiative and before any Order Marker is revealed, you may immediately"

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Seeing half the opponent's strategy is HUGE! Pair this guy with Joker and you could own a round. Maybe just 1 OM?

Also, the wording will have to change. "After using Advanced Plan" means you have used the entire power, but moving your own OM is part of the Advanced Plan.

Are we planning on having more Android Heroes?

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Awesome Android and Dragon Man will definitely be Android Heroes. He always uses Androids as his minions because they are above humans and make fewer mistakes.

As for the wording I'll update it when the breathing period is over.

What do others think on just seeing one OM Vs. Seeing two?

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

We'll definitely have more Android Heroes.
Android Affinity needs to be tied to an Order Marker for the initial part, though.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Good stuff. :) I have an idea for a Unique Android squad I've been toying with. Not sure if you want to incorporate squads in his Affinity power or not.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Is this what we are looking at changing it to?

ADVANCED PLAN
After rolling for initiative and before any Order Markers are revealed, you may immediately choose any two unrevealed opponent's Order Markers to view. After viewing an opponent's Order Markers, you may move one Order Marker from any card you control to any other card you control.

ANDROID AFFINITY
After revealing an Order Marker on this card and instead of taking a turn with Mad Thinker, you may take a turn with an Android Hero you control. After taking a turn with an Android Hero, you may reveal an X Order Marker on this Army Card to take an additional turn with any Android Hero you control.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

I should probably make it a Unique or Common Android Hero then. Good call Good Pig.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Definitely! :) Good call, GP. Looks great to me otherwise. The two Order Markers might be pretty powerful, yeah, but I'd say playtest him with Joker before getting too worried. What are you thinking on cost right now?

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Yeah, I could see that. So 350 points would be a pretty big chunk of a 1,000 point army to field Joker and he, and you'd need to add some offensive help on top of that. Plus, neither he nor Joker have too tough of a constitution, so I'm not worrying too much about his powers at that point cost.
If he were lower costed, I'd say drop to one OM, but at 160, I think he needs both.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Seems like everyone has covered any concerns I have. Good work, tickle!

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Looks interesting Tcglkn, nothing to add at this stage.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Should we take a note from Joker's card and add a line like this to Advanced Plan:
You may never reveal an opponent's Order Markers when using Advanced Plan.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

I think the difference is that Joker is moving them without looking, whereas here you are looking at them. I understand the desire for clarity in team games or three way games, but it does say "view" not "reveal" and not "show someone else" so I think we're good.

Nice job Tickle :D

At first glance I was concerned about giving Red Tornado, Sentinels and Manhunters 2 turns (when using the X), but considering that other than rearranging 1 OM and looking at 2 opponent's OM's, that's all he can do as he's not going to attack unless pretty much the last one standing in his army. So after looking at it again, it seems to be able to work out and while you may get some advantage in some rounds with him, you're paying 160? to do that and he could have a target on his back, though w/o clear sight restriction, he could hide pretty good and do his deeds. I like that though as it seems thematic and force the opponent to just deal with the Androids and other parts of the army or waste time trying to get to Mad Thinker and kill him.

I like it. :D

He definitely likes to lead with his Android minions. I have a good design for Awesome Android that will make him reliant on Mad Thinker.

Thanks for the feedback.

Glad to see him being designed! One of my favorite obscure-ish characters. I suppose that means an Awesome Android is either already done or in the process. ;)

I wonder if it should be at least noted in the FAQ that viewed Order Markers are still considered unrevealed. Just for clarity.

For Android Affinity, if I revealed an Order Marker on say Dragon Man, I could take a turn with him then reveal the X on Mad Thinker and take a turn with him again or any other android. Interesting, but I would be careful with Sentinels and too much bonding (I'm glad Event Heroes aren't included in this). During one numbered Order Marker you could potentially attack with 2 Sentinels and move 8 total Sentinels!! I think I'm okay with that, but between Master Mold and Mad Thinker, i really don't want to see any more Android Bonding for a little while...

Defense of 5 is an interesting choice, but I can see that it's representing his ability to be in the right place at the right time to avoid attacks rather than having a special power for that.

Good work tickle!

Awesome Android is coming soon, I'll include you in on his ERB as this design really helps him out.

The higher defense does represent his ability to know where to be at any given time. I had considered a power, but didn't have anything I liked enough.

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Yeah, I was thinking of Master Mold as well and agree with Hi1 about not needing any more Android bonding any time soon after this! :p

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Him, Joker and Red Tornado will definitely be an army I test together.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

AWESOME!!!

I like this one through and through, from the left box to the stats, to the special powers!
Calculating Strategist - BINGO!
No use in a fight, but with decent/average defense and life - YAHTZEE!!!

ADVANCED PLAN seems mechanically sound, and I like very much how it reflects MTs planning, scheeming and intellect...

ANDROID AFFINITY seems pretty straightforward, nice twist with the X order marker extra activation! Just for the heck of it, it might be fun to let the power include android squads too?

Speaking of awesome, I beg, plead, crave and absolutely DEMAND that you also design the Mad Thinkers AWESOME ANDROID, to accompany, and dare I say COMPLETE, this awesome design...

Cheers
Jesper

Awesome Android is drafted and written up. He will be coming up as one of my next few designs.

Thanks for the review.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Lots of demand for Awesome Android. I wanted to have Mad Thinker completed first because of the bonding and Awesome Android's Limited Intelligence power.

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

Hmm, it occurs to me that Loki will be an interesting combination with this guy as well. :)

Re: The Book of Mad Thinker - Design

3 Android turns and 2 Loki turns per round is pretty good. I'll still take the 6 Mutant turns per round.
