Character Bio - Helen Takahama became a superhero as a teen, after being embroiled in the schemes of a series of supervillains; first her parents were killed in Onslaught's attack on New York, then she was captured and experimented on by Arnim Zola. Zola's experiments granted her enhanced speed and strength, allowing her to escape captivity and try to find help. Unbeknownst to her, her "savior" was yet another villain. "Citizen V" and the Thunderbolts helped her trash Arnim Zola's hideout and put an end to his experiments.

In the wake of the battle, Meteorite recruited the newly-christened Jolt into the Thunderbolts. Jolt even took up residence in the Thunderbolts' headquarters, completely unaware that the rest of her teammates were supervillains in disguise. Her genuine heroism helped inspire the other Thunderbolts, particularly Atlas, to turn against Zemo.

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

NAME = JOLT
SECRET IDENTITY = HELEN TAKAHAMA

SPECIES = MUTATE
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = CRIME FIGHTER
PERSONALITY = ENTHUSIASTIC

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 4

LIFE = 4

MOVE = 6
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 3
DEFENSE = 3

POINTS = 80

TAKEN IN
If you control at least two other Charlatans, Jolt has the class of Charlatan in addition to what is listed on this card.

THUNDERBOLT INSPIRATION
If there is a revealed Order Marker on this card, other figures you control that share a class with Jolt add 1 to their Move numbers and, if they have a Repentant personality, 1 to the result whenever they roll the 20-sided die.

HYPERKINETIC BLITZ 14
Jolt can move through all figures and is never attacked when leaving an engagement. After moving Jolt on your turn, you may choose one figure she moved through, or two figures she moved through if it is Jolt's turn. Roll the 20-sided die, one at a time, for each chosen figure. If you roll 14 or higher, that figure receives a wound.

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

The final original (well, almost original) Thunderbolt! Looking to keep her as a fairly cheap piece for the T-Bolts - ideally I think it'd be cool for her to hit 100 even.

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

Looks like a pretty straightforward add on to two factions.

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

I'm getting 85 on the calculator, so hitting 100 shouldn't be too hard to achieve. You're in that range, IMO.

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

Yeah, I think she's pretty close to where she needs to be, so hopefully it isn't too tough to nail down the particulars. Excited to be returning to the T-Bolts for the first time since they released!

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

No changes from your workshop I believe? No issues. Nothing crazy. I like cheaper heroes so she's cool!

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

The only change from the last version I posted is letting her pick an extra figure for Hyperkinetic Blitz on her own turn (which I'd talked about doing but hadn't actually built into the write-up yet when last I posted it).

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

I'm not completely sure I'd heard of the soda before you and YK bringing it up around this design.

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

All the sugar and twice the caffeine you need to Jolt your team to success.

I had to quit drinking it in High School as I was getting stomach pains. :)

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

Hmm, let's see if I can successfully jolt myself through some checklists with none of the caffeine:

Re: The Book of Jolt (Design)

Slight update to Thunderbolt Inspiration after running the checklists:

THUNDERBOLT INSPIRATION
If there is a revealed Order Marker on this card, other figures you control that share a class with Jolt add 1 to their Move numbers and, if they have a Repentant personality, 1 to the result whenever they roll the 20-sided die.

Just dropped the clear sight requirement so that it didn't raise questions about timing with the move bonus. Seemed like the tidiest way to resolve that, and I think the boost is mild enough that it shouldn't be a big problem.

Proposing we send her to initial testing.

Re: The Book of Jolt (VOTE for Initial)

Yea, I agree with that tweak too. Movement boosts are hard to set a range on cause then you have to answer when the range applies too.

Re: The Book of Jolt (VOTE for Initial)

This passes. Thanks, folks!

I'll plan on hitting the initial this weekend. Hopefully should be a quick one, since she's a low-cost figure.

Re: The Book of Jolt (Waiting for Initial)

I very much appreciate the double meaning of Taken In. Real artistic merit there. :D

Seems like some solid auto-wound potential, but she has zero defensive abilities on her own so I doubt it'll be anything problematic. Nice cherry on top for the Thunderbolts.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: She feels good to me mechanically - definitely wants the defensive-powered Thunderbolts around to take focus off of her, because she's a soft target. Her boosting is mild, but I'm okay with that. She's meant to be kind of a light support piece and not a linchpin.

She feels like she might be a hair overcosted, but hard to say yet. I don't mind having a premium on the auto-wounds in her point bracket, though.
