The Book of Joker (II)

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

I think an Event Hero would more likely go "ouch" rather than "Hunh? What was I just thinking?".

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

Too bad you can't mind control Event Heroes, or I'd say lump them in with Unique Heroes. As it is, I say go straight up wound for them.

Heavy Hitter or Mid-Level Hero Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? 140.
- Give a brief overview. Joker is good at taking a punch, but any special attack or ranged attack is gonna bypass his defense power. Joker has a good melee attack and a great D20 power that is easy to depend on in combat.
Spoiler Alert!

Squad Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? 140.
- Give a brief overview. Joker should have done a touch better here, but his D20 was not Hot and Nasty at all.
Map: Custom.
Units: Joker - VS - Arkham Inmates x2.
Spoiler Alert!

Squad Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? I am thinking that maybe 130 would be better. He is just so susceptible to ranged attacks.
- Give a brief overview. Joker isn't fast enough, tough enough, or ranged enough to really compete.
Map: Custom.
Units: Joker - VS - LexCorp Agents.
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? 140.
- Give a brief overview. Joker was tricky, hard to kill, and lots of fun to play.
Map: Custom.
Units: Joker II, Harley Quinn, Scarecrow, Arkham Inmates x2, and Skrull Infiltrator x1 - VS - Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Hawkmen of Thanagar, and Atom.
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? 140.
- Give a brief overview. Joker hits pretty decent with an attack of 4, and his D20 tricks are a lot of fun.
Map: Custom.
Units: Joker II, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Penguin, and Killer Penguins - VS - Ghost Rider, Mole Man, and Moloids x12.
Spoiler Alert!

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

What if Joker Toxin was triggered after attacking or defending with Joker? Then Laugh It Off let the attacking figure choose if they wanted to attack him again.

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

If we went with that, we would have to drop the "temporary mind control" of Unique Heroes, to avoid turn interruption. I love that one too much to see it go. Good idea though.

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

I'm pretty happy with where this one's at right now, personally. :)

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

Heeeeeeeeere's Johnny!!

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

LAUGH IT OFF
When Joker would receive two or more wounds from a normal adjacent attack, you may instead place one Wound Marker on this card and the attacking figure must attack Joker again if possible.

As much as I love this power, it really is too complicated and wonky when Joker is attacked by a figure with double (or more) attacks.

I am switching to this:

LAUGH IT OFF
When Joker would receive two or more wounds from a normal adjacent attack, you may instead place one Wound Marker on this card and the attacking figure's turn immediately ends.

That will own squads who have big attacks, and confound Heroes who like to do things after attacking/taking a turn.

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

Yep, looking good .

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

:word: Definitely will make him a loooot nastier, though!

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

Heavy Hitter tests done, and 140 is feeling right.

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

TEST 4
Map: Custom.
Units: Joker II - VS - Black Widow.
Poison Darts, Superior range, and Superior defense won this match for black widow.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? .

BW won, but not sure how dominant. :p

Nice work so far Griff. Certainly can have issues with ranged opponents, but he does have 6 lives, so that helps somewhat.

He should do better in army tests with Harley getting some activations from him, not to mention him taking temporary control of a Unique Hero with Toxin can really help the team. :D

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

Thanks Hahma. Updated with Hahma's catch and also the squad tests. I am guessing he will do better in Army play as well, but as is, I am liking 140.

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

Cool, 140 seems to be holding up so far.

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

Hmm this was a Joker I was hoping would be more of a physical match for Batman, especially with a new Batman in the works ... are we happy with 130/140 here? Seems a bit on the weak side for the niche I was thinking this Joker would fill ...

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

You know (others may not until now) that I have a writeup for every single Joker figure that exists, and a couple of writeups that don't have figures yet. There will be plenty of Joker goodness down the road. This guy is the very early Golden Age Joker who uses Joker Toxin in a variety of ways and is mostly a melee attacker who doesn't respond to his own pain.

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

All done. 140 feels good, and 24 hours are on the clock.

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

OK, just wasn't sure what niche you were looking for this Joker to fill. I'd had the Fish Guns Joker more pegged for Golden Age goodness, and this guy more pegged for 90's esq Joker with the ability to do some violence to Batman.

Re: The Book of Joker - Designing

140 looks good. Pre-yea for Playtesting.
