Character Bio - In Earth-295, Jean was the first mutant, other that Magneto's own children to become an X-Man. Due to their being no telepathic teachers to help her control her power, she could not block out other team members thoughts, including their pain. When she was captured by Prelate Cyclops, she was held prisoner in Sinister's lab and he took her DNA and combined it with Cyclops. Later, after being killed, Sinister revived Jean and used her to create a new opposing team to the X-Men, but Weapon X managed to get through to her. She destroyed Sinister and she and Weapon X became leaders of the X-Men along with Magneto. -Comic Vine

NAME = JEAN GREY

SPECIES = MUTANT
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = REBEL
PERSONALITY = EMPATHETIC

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 4

MOVE = 5
RANGE = 4
ATTACK = 4
DEFENSE = 7

POINTS = 240

MUTANT TELEPATHIC EMPATHY
Jean Grey has the class of Telepath in addition to what is listed on this card. While Jean Grey is in play, all Mutants and Telepaths you control are considered in clear sight of each other. When a Mutant or Telepath in your army receives one or more wounds or is destroyed, you may immediately move any unrevealed Order Markers from that figure's card onto any other Mutant or Telepath card you control, or move any unrevealed Order Markers from Mutant or Telepath cards you control onto that Mutant or Telepath’s card.

PSYCHIC PAIN SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 3 + Special. Attack 3 + Special.
Jean Grey does not need clear sight to attack with this special attack and may attack non-adjacent figures when she is engaged. When attacking a figure that does not have the Mental Shield special power and is not a destructible object, add 1 to the Range and Attack numbers of this special attack for each Rebel or Telepath you control with one or more wounds. If you roll 3 or more additional dice when attacking with this special attack, all figures adjacent to the defending figure are also affected by this special attack. Roll attack dice once for all affected figures.

Kinda weird that she has the Igniting the Phoenix power but cannot turn into Phoenix but otherwise I like everything here.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

I like her! I think alternate universe versions like this are a good way to do "greatest hits" versions of their mainstream iterations - doing the Jean to Phoenix transformation in a truncated way. A little worried about the potency of her Wrath when she's in Phoenix mode - with smart army building you'll be getting a pretty consistent 2 auto-wounds per turn on top of figure movement, which is always super useful. Maybe it's not too much for the high-200s, but something to keep an eye on.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

Her second run seems really strong at the moment. Only needing an 8+ for an auto-wound and able to use it up to 4 times sounds daunting. I know it requires the wounded allies, but when everything comes together that's much stronger than Magneto at 375 points. Just something to keep in mind when trying to price her for testing.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

I'm fine with her coming in wherever she does, since it is Jean + a bit of Phoenix in one. Trying to aim for a point value that works within army building blocks. 300 would be a fine point value.

As for her 2nd run, yeah, she's gonna get a bit rough. But at 4 life, I think she should still be manageable. Also taking down her allies as you do against the F4 with Thing, should also help. And of course, it's limited to Rebels, so that's not the biggest or cheapest pool to draw from.

Yep, figured it would be nice to see a Jean + Phoenix on one card type of feel. She gets some Phoenix presence in AoA, so I felt it was a nice fit here.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

I dig it. :up:

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

I like it. I think points will go up quite a bit thanks to the last power.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

I'll mark her down at a starting point of 300 then.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

Changed most of the numbers to 3's for ease of memory and to reel it in a hair.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

Like the changes but Breathing Period :p

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

Changed it all back. I will wait the proper 24 hours before touching the SP.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

Technically I already commented but it was right before you officially posted so I'll go on record. I like that you added the cap in fury as that was the only concern i had. Looks good.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Breathing)

I propose a vote to move to Initial Playtesting.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY:

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Initial Playtesting)

May put this on hold and do Colossus first. She's not really feeling super fun after that first game. May need some re-tooling.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Initial Playtesting)

I trust your judgement. Better to let it marinate and see how you feel than to force it.

Re: The Book of Jean Grey (AoA) (Initial Playtesting)

:up: If you're not happy with the design, no need to force it through.
