Character Bio - The symbiotes were originally created by the elder god Knull to drag the universe back into the void, and they conquered entire civilizations under his banner. But when Knull was defeated by Thor and his connection to the symbiotes was severed, they rebelled. They imprisoned Knull and formed a benevolent organization known as the Agents of the Cosmos.

Unfortunately for the cosmos, bonding with a malevolent host could easily cause a symbiote to return to its old ways. Many symbiotes regressed and reproduced, quickly outnumbering the good-natured symbiotes. This aggressive strand recreated Knull's Symbiote Imperium and became feared throughout the galaxy. The Imperium is known to overrun entire civilizations, use their populace as host bodies, and steal their technology to attack other worlds.

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Design)

NAME = IMPERIUM SYMBIOTES
SECRET IDENTITY =

SPECIES = SYMBIOTE
UNIQUENESS = COMMON SQUAD (2)
CLASS = INVADERS
PERSONALITY = WILD

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5

LIFE = 1

MOVE = 8
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 5
DEFENSE = 4

POINTS = 120

CLIMB X3
When moving up or down levels of terrain, an Imperium Symbiote may triple its height.

HOST-JUMPING 14
When an Imperium Symbiote would be destroyed, you may roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 14 or higher, you may choose an enemy figure within 3 clear sight spaces that is not an Android, Construct, Symbiote, or destructible object. If the chosen figure is a Common or Squad figure, destroy that figure instead and replace it with the Imperium Symbiote. Otherwise, destroy the Imperium Symbiote and place it on the chosen Hero's card. A Hero with an Imperium Symbiote on its card has the species of Symbiote and the Super Strength special power in addition to what is listed on its card.

SYMBIOTE HIVEMIND
After taking a turn with the Imperium Symbiotes, you may either take another turn with the Imperium Symbiotes or take temporary control of an enemy Hero with an Imperium Symbiote on its card and take a turn with that Hero. You may not activate an Imperium Symbiote that has already been activated this turn and you may not take any additional turns.

SUPER STRENGTH

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Design)

Largely happy with where this one is at - may lift the 'enemy' restriction on Host-Jumping? Don't think it's problematic for them to cannon fodder your own squaddies. Possessing your own heroes might get more interesting.

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Design)

Also probably gonna take some fiddling around with this one to find the right balance on the numbers - really no idea on where to settle the points/d20 here.

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Design)

Oh, also total sidenote on wave planning stuff - right now I'm thinking of these as a Spidey release thing, but they could also be held back for a Marvel Cosmic type release with different alien generics, if we need some momentum behind that.

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Design)

The art thing made me smile. I definitely was excited to see this thread started! Not a huge fan of 5 immunities in Host Jumping but they’re all needed immunities.

Edit: also with a height of 5 and a move of 8 when are they ever going to need Climb x3 vs just x2?

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Design)

:p Yeah, I know you've been trying to get me to do this one for a while now.

Yeah I don't love the big immunity list either. We could maybe simplify a hair by cutting the Event Hero immunity and just letting them bond to Event Heroes? There's no huge incentive to do that anyway, that I can see, since you can't get control of them and you're just giving them SS that they probably already have. (And most Event Heroes wouldn't really care about gaining the Symbiote species either)

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Design)

Climb x3 vs Climb x2 would only matter if they got their move boosted. Probably wouldn't come up ever since most maps don't have huge height differences, but I think it makes sense to pad the amount of Climb they need just in case. We did the same thing on Maximum Carnage.

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Design)

Yea I guess with road and another move boost they get to 12 and could jump up a Fortress Wall.

Maybe down to that, streamlining just a hair?

Leaning against cutting the 'enemy' restriction - I think for most cases it'd be fine, but it feels like it might push them a bit toward the Skrulls.

Oh, also trimmed the OM requirement on Symbiote Hivemind - I think whatever Knull looks like in the end he'll probably want the OM power for the Symbiotes as a faction, in order to get him working smoothly with like the Grendel and whatever.

So far as I know, we don't have a ton of open-ended Squad leaders that'd be capable of farming a turn out to them without limiting turn chains, so I don't think that should be an issue.

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Design)

Looks interesting. I'd probably try them at 120? Common squads are harder on the calculator.

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Design)

Yeah I've never designed a Common Squad before, so no real experience to draw on. :lol:

Tweaked the SP.

Let's send em to initial. Gonna run another test or two first, but might as well queue em up.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Happy with how these went - enemy squaddies to consume definitely make them more of a menace, but that's on brand. The 'take control' bit is strong, but it is still a bit situational because you have to give up the chance to develop your Symbiotes to do it. Wasn't going for it every time here.

Re: The Book of Imperium Symbiotes (Initial Posted)

Proposing we send these guys to public testing (once the Sentinels clear)
