The figure used for this unit is a modified Heroclix figure from the DC Brave and the Bold set.
Its model number and name are #009 / The Atom and the Hawkman. Its modification is that the Atom has been removed.

Character Bio - “Originally Prince Khufu of ancient Egypt, the hero who would become known as Hawkman discovered an alien spacecraft from the planet Thanagar, powered by a mysterious anti-gravity element called Nth Metal. The unearthly energies of the metal transformed his soul, and he and his love Princess Chay-Ara were reincarnated over and over for centuries. Currently he is Carter Hall, archaeologist and adventurer [….] During the same period, his love Chay-Ara was reborn as archaeologist Shiera Sanders.   • Q: If Hawkman uses Golden Age Heroism to reveal an "X" OM on his card and activate four Mystery Men, and one of his chosen Mystery Men is Superman (Kal-L), can Kal-L use his Faster than a Speeding Bullet special power during his turn?
    A: No. Faster than a Speeding Bullet is used "Instead of attacking", and a figure must be able to attack in order to use an "Instead of attacking" special power. More broadly, in order to use an "Instead of doing X" special power, a figure must be able to do X.

No protege bonding here?

So reveal a numbered order marker you lose one turn but the other two turns net you four activation total. So if you have bonding somewhere else or have counter strike type of abilities you go for the defense boost, if no or if the bonding gets knocked off early then the attack boost looks like the better option. Pretty cool.

Looks good. Simple, thematic, looks fun, and pulls the Mystery Men together in a fun way. We'll need to keep an eye on the amount of stat boosting this faction has (put Hawkman, Jay, and Jesse together and you can be looking at +4 defense), but I don't think it'll be an issue and I kind of like that about how this faction is coming together.

Do we want to maybe limit the stat boosts to just Mystery Men though? With all the OMs having to be on Mystery Men it won't be easy to boost many other figures, but you could still use that +2 defense with passive figures (such as on figures that can move without OMs like Kid Flash or Zombie; or with Stargirl who can move on Hawkman's OMs and now carry a defensive figure).

Other than that, I love the design. :up:

I don't know, I feel like putting all the OMs on Mystery Men is enough of a limitation. I don't mind the combo defensive boosts unless the CRB guys have a problem with it.
@japes - He's really a Golden Age character who wasn't around when the Proteges started coming in, thus all Mystery Men.

The only exploit I can come up with is running him with Doctor Manhattan, dumping all your OMs on him at the start of the round, and sending the numbered OMs to something else after burning the "X" marker. Still, that's ~700 points wrapped up in creating a defensive bonus for other figures, which feels like a lot.

I'd certainly be concerned about giving +2 Defense to all figures you control without and restrictions. On it's own, not too scary but combined with Sue or Superman III it could get ridiculous. Giving the defense boost to just other Mystery Men (and a few other appropriate classes like Protege?) would still be very cool. Otherwise everything looks pretty cool. Maybe a double attack or swoop power to give him a second power that is similar in nature to the other Hawkman?

I'm cool with restricting the "X" defensive boost to just Mystery Men to help completely close down any exploits folks might be worried about. I don't think adding any other class would be particularly thematic.

I don't want to give him a swoop power, as I feel that infringes a bit too much on the other Hawk designs. I could consider a Double Attack, though. I was looking at the bio for the golden age version of him again and it's tough to pick out thematic powers during that phase as most of the overall character's interesting quirks are when he's Thanagarian.

Definitely agree on making the defense boost limited to Mystery Men. Even with that, I'm a little bit worried about an easy +2 to their defense, but we can always lower that if testing shows it too strong. I like the tension between which OM to remove. :up:

No Karat comments yet and no hurries, so I'll let the Breathing Period ride at least one more day before updating. :)

Been rather swamped with work search lately and not likely to let up for the foreseeable future, plus taking my sister to the airport today.

Nothing stands out to me here however.

Not noting any strong pushes for second powers. Let me know if you guys feel strongly that he should have Double Attack or something (I might find myself wanting to add it after the initial). Otherwise, for now I'm just going to make the update to the defensive part of the power.

:duh: Looking at the calendar wrong - the breathing period actually expires tonight. :p I made the defensive update but I'll hold off on anything else.

I'd be 100% fine with any minor boosting power if you feel the need, but I won't push for any.

No. The first mini is New 52 Hawkman. The second is already being used in the Hawkmen squad. That leaves number 3, which is Silver Age and he has Atom in his hand. What we really need is an Angel repaint.

EDIT: Upon further review, the third one should work fine, especially with Atom removed.

Sounds like a winner. @japes would we need to get a different photo of someone who clipped Atom off, or could you edit him out for the card?

The hand and Atom are out of focus in that shot so it wouldn't be to bad getting Atom out. It's actually not one of his best photo's so I think we post it up in the photo's and see what we get and then use this for back-up.
