Character Bio - Gohan is the elder son of Goku and his wife Chi-Chi. He is named after Goku's adoptive grandfather, Grandpa Gohan. Unlike his father, Gohan lacks a passion for fighting and prefers to do so only when his loved ones are threatened. Nevertheless, Gohan fights alongside the Dragon Team in the defense of Earth for much of his life.

  • Like Krillin, Gohan offers turn efficiency to the Challengers. He's a bit weaker defensively (and cheaper) than Krillin, though Masenko can have a higher upside, and Gohan doesn't mind repositioning thanks to Unrelenting Barrage.

Re: The Book of Gohan (kid) - breathing

Here's another bonder for the DBZ faction. Krillin has proven himself to be a very useful figure, so Gohan will provide an alternative bonder or an add-on. He's a bit more fragile, lacking a defensive power, but offers some solid offensive options.

Re: The Book of Gohan (kid) - breathing

Yes! Excited for another cheap bonding Challenger!

Re: The Book of Gohan (kid) - breathing

Seems like a pretty good move only option for the Challengers!

Re: The Book of Gohan (kid) - breathing

Yeah he seems better than Krillin with the unblockables and move bonding. Of course he’s super squishy so it evens out. Good stuff!

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: I don’t think Gohan himself is that powerful - he’s definitely less efficient than Krillin with the autowounds, and a lot less durable without Solar Flare. That said, together they make the Challengers really good as they offer turn efficiency to the powerful DBZ figures, and having two bonders instead of one is really nifty. The wins weren’t crazy blowouts, and they lost once, so it’s probably fine - just felt strong to me, so it’s something to keep an eye on. I might tweak Krillin’s Solar Flare to only work on non-adjacent attacks if others feel he’s too strong. But that’s just something to consider after the public tests, I think it’s fine to leave as-is now.

Gohan felt good to play overall. Masenko is an all-or-nothing attack, which is good for a low attack figure. Unrelenting Barrage is less useful, but autowounds are always handy. Felt a little durable thematically for a kid, but I’m not sure mechanically I’d want to tweak his defensive stats any. He was not a super impactful figure in these games - lower point cost games might give him a little more room to shine.

Re: The Book of Gohan (kid) - initial is in

After mentioning it to Jekyll, I think changing Krillin now would be a good thing. Krillin's not overpowered, but he's almost always worth bringing, and reigning him in will allow other Challenger bonding (like Gohan) to compete with him.

This is the change I'd like for Krillin. (I don't think Gohan himself needs any changes.)
NAME = KRILLIN

SOLAR FLARE 13
When Krillin is targeted for an attack by a non-adjacent enemy figure without the Blind Warrior or Sensory Assault special power, you may roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 13 or higher, that enemy figure is not considered to have line of sight on any figures for the duration of the player turn, and you may choose Krillin and up to one Challenger within 4 clear sight spaces of Krillin. Move each chosen figure up to 4 spaces, during which they do not take leaving engagement attacks from that enemy figure.

Re: The Book of Gohan (kid) - initial is in

I'll propose for public testing with that change to Krillin above. Assuming people are okay with it, I'll update Krillin's SP once the vote passes.

Re: The Book of Gohan (kid) - vote for public testing

Gohan looks like a great addition to the Challengers and the change to Krillin is probably a good idea.

Can't wait to test him, that first army looks solid! Yea

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: I think Gohan is strictly better than Krillin. And just because he's a flying wound generator. He seems similar to Spider-Punk, but Punk still needs to use his attack to get his unblockables. Gohan just moves, which obviously pairs nicely with his sidekick power. He's cool, but I think he's worth a bit more than 110. He's an auto-include in any Challenger armies, I think. Also not sure if you want to add a "no additional turns" clause to the Androids, to prevent future bonding issues, along with cutting Gohan out of the chain (I know they lost, but it did feel potent before 17 got smashed)

Re: The Book of Gohan (kid) - public testing

Thanks LP! I'm surprised you felt Gohan was better than Krillin - for me, Krillin's second chance at an unblockable was worth far more. But it looks like the movement was a huge boon for you. We can tick his life down by 1 if he's still feeling strong after Jekyll's tests, unless you think we should make a change now (or have a different change in mind).

Android 17 should definitely have the no additional turns language, that's my bad. Must have gotten lost in the revisions somewhere. Actually, look at this from my 17 initial:
I removed the “no additional turns” lingo from 17 as otherwise Android 16’s free turn isn’t helpful to the trio.
Probably best to just add back the "no additional turns" language in spite of that. I tested his bonding as not working alongside Challenger Support.

Re: The Book of Gohan (kid) - public testing

I wouldn’t change much until the next tester, my luck was bizarre tonight. The bi additional turns is probably a good idea regardless
