The Book of Gambit

I haven't printed it recently but when I did, I didn't have an issue with it. (& no it's not one of the ones I did.)

Same here. I printed him off a few months ago and didn't have any issues.

Hahma, do you have your Adobe Reader up to date?

Yeah, I just updated the Adobe Reader. But I wonder if the site is slow in general. I printed off Dazzler and Shadow Cat a little bit ago and for some reason it took forever for the printer to go. I mean 10+ minutes. When I tried Gambit, it had a couple error things show up and one said something like having problems with it "drawing" or something like that.

I'll try Gambit some other time and wait to try anything else until at least tomorrow since it seems like anything I have been doing on this site over the past hour or so has been really slow moving.

Thanks guys for the replies. And great work on the cards by the way, they look fantastic. You art guys never cease to amaze me with your mad skills. :D

Do you save the PDF to your computer first? If not try that & then open the file & print from it.

I personally always do this. Because it takes out any issues browsers have with PDF files as a PDF isn't a native format to the browser but it is the browser trying to print it. Where as printing from the PDF file in Acrobat Reader that was designed specifically (& only) to handle PDFs there is less opportunities for things to go wrong.

Cheers

Well I just tried that A3n and this is what I got:

"The document could not be printed"

clicked OK

"There were no pages selected to print" (though it said 1/1 at the top)

clicked OK

"A drawing error occurred"

clicked OK and got out of there.

That was the only PDF that I had those error tabs. Even when a couple other PDF's took a while to print, they never had those error messages.

Oh well, I'm kind of tired of trying for now and will wait for a while. Maybe it's something with my computer.

Thanks for the suggestions and help buddy :D

Sorry man, I already have this one printed, but I had no trouble downloading and opening it.

Well I didn't try this guy again, but I did print off the Latverian Life Spell and Teleportation Belts just now and they printed right away and no issues. Could there be a difference in how they are uploaded into PDF and how much file storage is being used?

Everything is a possibility, as Tcglkn doesn't compile to PDF the same way GP & I do, but it seems you haven't had any issues with others of his so it is a very strange peculiarity. One which I don't have an answer for. Does Acrobat Reader give you any errors when you open the file? And does it display correctly on the screen?

He printed off one of the other PDFs I made just fine so it's not in the way I made the PDF.

Well I finally got Gambit printed. However, I was still getting the same error messages for the mini PDF version but the comic card was able to print easily. All my other cards are mini versions, but I'll take the comic version of Gambit (which is cool) rather than no version :D

Edit: Talk about weirdness. Man, I printed out new Magneto, Juggernaut, Destiny, Avalanche, Nick Fury, Iron Man IV, War Machine and new Red Skull without problems, though it's weird how some of them load and print real quick (nearly instantly) while others take a few minutes. But anyway, after printing Red Skull, I wanted to print the Cube Glyph and first of all it took a couple minutes to load, but when it went to print, it sent the paper through the printer without printing anything. I tried that twice w/o luck.

I have to say, I never had issues with any cards before and they always printed right up. Now it's weird with a variety of time to print and having a couple not printing at all. I had uploaded the updated Adobe the other day and that's the only thing I can think of that could cause this goofiness. :)

That is weird. I re-made the PDF here just to be sure if you want to try and print the mini version.

That is strange, because you list cards that all of us have made up there its not just one person's cards. I bet mine are probably the ones taking slightly longer to load because the file size is larger.

Hahma you suck :p, this is all a deliberate attempt to mess with your mind. We engineered the whole thing so they wouldn't work just for you . & we aren't helping you fix it, so there :neener:.

:p

:p

That's what I figured. ;)

It's kind of like the time I was stationed in Hawaii while I was in the Marines. I was going home on leave one time and needed a ride to the airport. So several of my buddies joined in, but before dropping me at the airport, we "of course" had to stop at an establishment called Club Ju Yen. Well needless to say, one beer led to a few more and the next thing I know is that I look at the clock and my flight is taking off in 20 minutes. Well we left and got to the airport too late of course, and in my state of mind, I accused my buddies of playing a practical joke on me be convincing the proprietor of Club Ju Yen and the staff at Honolulu Airport to set their clocks forward an hour just to mess with me. That wasn't the case of course, so we sat in the airport bar until I could catch a later flight.

This printing situation kind of reminds me of that. :p

Back to biatchin' again. Just tried Dum Dum Dugan and had the exact same error reports as with Gambit. At least I was able to get the comic card for Gambit, but neither would work for Dum Dum. Again it's very strange and random. I printed off another Sentinel card so I could have 4 of them and it came out really quick and easy. Just did Iron Man MkIII and that was a breeze too. Printed Wonder Man and the first time it had issues where the secret identity and cost didn't get printed and there was an error report at the end of the print job. I tried again and it worked fine, though took a few minutes.

I'm not saying anything is wrong from the art guys, I'm just venting at my strange situation. My laptop isn't new (about 6+ years-old) so that may have something to do with it, though I never had an issue printing any cards before just recently. The strangest thing to me is how some cards print immediately without hesitation, some take a couple minutes to get started printing, and then there are a few (Gambit, Dum Dum and Cosmic Cube) that just don't print at all. Goofy for sure but I'll keep plugging away. :D

I am sure it has to do with the size of the PDFs. The ones tickle makes are huge because he uses Mac where the other guys use Windows, and apparently Mac generates PDFs with more data (unnecessary to you and me) on them than Windows does. I would really like it if tickle would look into this and see if there is a way he can generate PDFs without all the extra unnecessary info. I believe Mac has a great customer service center that he should call.

How do you print? Do you download the file & print from that? Or do you just open it up in your browser & print from there? Or something else?

Do you have the proper Adobe Acrobat or is it some other PDF reader?

Some tests that seem to confirm our concerns:

C3G STANDARD PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM

NAME OF THE TEST UNIT (STORM/GAMBIT)

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes

- What should be the unit's point value? 220? She didn’t do anything great here, but neither did any of her teammates.
- Give a brief overview. I played Storm with an extra defense die here, but it didn’t matter, as she still whiffed on a 5 skull attack from a pumped up Thing (who had a second attack with 10 dice coming, had she survived).
Map: Custom
Units: Storm (250), Professor X (220), Jean Grey (180), Angel (90), Nightcrawler (140), Iceman (150) (1,030) vs. Mr. Fantastic, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Thing (1,000)
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes

- What should be the unit's point value? 220 he was the MVP here, despite his cost making the X-Men appear worth less than 1,000.
- Give a brief overview. There were a few factors going more in the favor of the X-Men here, but Gambit doesn’t feel worth less than Storm right now. If this game is any indication, he’s definitely undercosted.
Map: Custom
Units: Gambit (180), Professor X (220), Jean Grey (180), Angel (90), Nightcrawler (140), Iceman (150) (960) vs. Mr. Fantastic, Human Torch, Invisible Woman, Thing (1,000)
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes

- What should be the unit's point value? 200-210?
- Give a brief overview. Storm isn’t even worth 220, I don’t think, or her team wasn’t equipped to win this one, but with Gambit around (see next test) they managed to tear it up. She did 164 points of damage, so I feel like even 200-210 might be a tad high.
Map: Custom
Units: Storm (250), Professor X (220), Jean Grey (180), Angel (90), Nightcrawler (140), Iceman (150) (1,030) vs. Superman (400), Batman (200), Wonder Woman (300), Robin (100) (1,000)
Spoiler Alert!

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes

- What should be the unit's point value? 220+
- Give a brief overview. This was still competitive and could have gone either way, but the X-Men supported Gambit well and he provided their offensive punch and then some. In an X-Men build against hero armies, he really shines.

Units: Gambit (180), Professor X (220), Jean Grey (180), Angel (90), Nightcrawler (140), Iceman (150) (960) vs. Superman (400), Batman (200), Wonder Woman (300), Robin (100) (1,000)

Yeah ... anybody else who feels like taking a shot at him to verify 220 for a cost? It might be too much of a bump, but I'm having trouble seeing this guy lower than 200.

Do you want the price to go up? Because another option would be to drop Disengage.
