The figure used for this unit is a Pathfinder Battles figure from the Heroes & Monsters set. Its model name and number is Mummy #15.

Character Bio:
There was once a great queen on Feylund, who was said could kill her enemies with a single glance. On Feylund, she had built an army of loyal minions who would do anything for her, without question or hesitation. One day, she was summoned to a different world to fight different battles, but her army was left behind. Without her minions, this queen was not at her full strength. She was mocked, and forgotten... until the day her general summoned her army for her.

And now, with her army at her command, Queen Sudema will march, and her enemies will fear her gaze once again!

CURSE OF THE MUMMY
When you choose an opponent's figure and roll the 20-sided die for a special power on any Undead Army Card, you may add 2 to the roll if the chosen figure is engaged with this Crypt Guardian.

ROYAL ESCORT
When Revealing an Order Marker on this Crypt Guardian, after taking this Crypt Guardian's turn, you may take a turn with one other Guard Hero or Queen Hero you control.

TOUGH
When rolling defense dice against a normal attack, this Crypt Guardian always add one automatic shield to what is rolled.

-Rulings and Clarifications-

Q. If a Crypt Guardian dies during its turn, can I take a turn with another figure using Royal Escort?
A. No.
The Crypt Guardian is no longer on the battlefield, so the power does not trigger.

Q. Does Curse of the Mummy stack if you have multiple Crypt Guardians adjacent to the defending figure?
A. Yes.
Each instance of a power on an Uncommon is considered to be a separate, unique power. So each applicable instance of Curse of the Mummy grants +2.

My favorite favorite theory scape army for this guy so far is:
Braxas
Guardies x2
Sudema
Drow CF.

Double threat with Brax/Sudema makes life nice and hard for your opponent. Lots of OM fidelity too.
Probably strongest one off the top of my head with Sudema still in it:
Guardie x3
RaeRae
Sudema
Krav
--------
500.

I feel bad for any uniques who take the fish bait. Double Guardie moves let them be a semi effective screen for Krav/Sudema. Give it anything not A++ cheese and I,think it has a fighting chance.

I love how despite all these guys' synergies, Sudema covers up their weakness to special attackers the best by just straight up staring every special attacker :D oh they are gping tp be a blast to play.

Now th REAL question is, since these guys bond with Braxas...

Crypt Guardian x4 240
Braxas 450

In this army, would you rather have Crypt Guardians or Greenscales?

I'd like to try some combination of Gurei-Oni, Shades of Bleakewoode and Crypt Guardians. I think that would be a fun one to play.

600 Points
Gurei-Oni
3x Crypt Guardians
3x Shades of Bleakewoode
Marcu Esenwein.

Without having played the Crypt Guardians, I would probably say Greenscales. But... maybe if I'd played the CGs I'd feel different.

Pure theory scape: If I'm playing the most competitive versions of Braxas + Greenscales vs. Braxas + Crypt Guardians...

210 Braxas
330 Greenscale Warriors x2
430 Krav Maga Agents
510 Raelin the Kyrie Warrior (RotV)
510pts/12 hexes

vs.

210 Braxas
510 Crypt Guardians x5
510pts/7hexes

I would think that the CG army has the advantage purely because it's all Heroes so while the 5-defense KMA may prove to be a problem for the CGs, they're no problem for the CG's Braxas.

I'm gonna take the CG army in this head-to-head battle.

Of course, I'd agree with you, there. The only real threat to the Crypt Guardians in that army is Krav Maga, which Braxas can eat for breakfast pretty easily. Within the wider meta, though, I think the first army you listed is probably stronger.

:word: But any army with KMA and Raelin is gonna beat most armies.

(I guess the reason you would take the CG army over the GW army in the metagame would be the same reason you take it in the head to head challenge... Hero immunities)

If you wanted to add range to the CG army, you could take out 2 or 3 CGs (since I'm guessing Braxas will only last long enough to bond with 2 or 3 of them) and add in Stingers x2 or Kaemon Awa (@ 120pts) or Stingers x3, Q9, Vulcanmechs, or Raelin (RotV)/KMA (@ 180pts).

So Braxas + CGs x2 + Q9 might put that army over top of the GW army.

In the broader scheme of the metagame, there's not much of a point in choosing CGs over GSWs as a Braxas bonder unless there's something else in your army (Cyprien?) that gets some benefit from the CGs.

Well, there is the point of it looking cool to have a Dragon spewing acid and then mummies following behind to assault your enemies. But that is the only major factor (it is a cool one though 8)).

The mummies move out first, actually.

(Which is great to set up for Sudema.)

Odd question but if I say have x8 Crypt Guardians and Sudema. does the +2 special ability add for each crypt guardian thus making Sudema have instant kill at around 620 points?

Instant kill on commons and instant kill 80% on any hero is still pretty scary for melee as a death pod at 500 points.

If I were a melee player approaching that death pod I would try to maneuver so that no more than a couple of CGs could engage any one of my figures at a time.

Overall, less scary than the FEs, IMO.

Just started using these guys, and I have to say, they're probably my favorite C3V unit. Sudema is a freaking beast with these guys around--in the game I just played I turned Wo-Sa-Ga, Sgt. Drake RotV and countless squad figures to stone. A core of 3xCrypt Guard, Sudema is really effective in casual games, and just a lot of fun in general.

Nice proxy for these guys, better yet, they come at 50 cents a figure

This is what I use. You can hardly tell the difference.

Here's to Crypt Guardian's amazing defenses, arguably better than Q9 in a special attack-less world. Being able to shrug off low attack units again and again and again without blinking when it does take a wound because of its 4 life is where this guy's power lies. It's the perfect meatshield for keeping Sudema alive long enough to score that melee hero kill, which is how she makes her points back.
