Character Bio - Pilot, mechanic, warrior, and more - there's no one you'd rather have on your starship than Ch'od. And that's before mentioning the fact he's a super strong, super tough, amphibious Saurian pirate. A founding member of the Starjammers, he is as loyal to his friends as he is terrifying to their enemies... and cosmic outlaws have a universe full of enemies. (By johnny139)

Re: The Book of Ch'od - Design Phase

NAME = CH'OD

SPECIES = SAURID
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = PIRATE
PERSONALITY = DEVOUT

SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 6

LIFE = 5

MOVE = 5
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 6
DEFENSE = 5

POINTS = 215

STARJAMMER DROP TEAM
At the start of the game, choose up to 3 other Pirate Heroes in your Army. The chosen Heroes and Ch'od are the Starjammer Drop Team. The Drop Team does not start the game on the battlefield. Once per game, before initiative is rolled, you may choose an empty space on the battlefield. Place the Drop Team on that or any space within 1 space. You cannot place them adjacent to any opponent's figures.

WATER STRENGTH 1
Ch'od does not stop his movement when entering a water space. Add 1 die to Ch'od's attack and defense while he is on a water space.

TOUGH
When rolling defense dice against normal attack, Ch'od always adds one automatic shield to whatever is rolled.

SUPER STRENGTH

Spoiler Alert!

Re: The Book of Ch'od - Design Phase

Starjammers are really coming along! :up:

Don't know the character, but do have the mini, so happy about that.

So for the drop team power, is the theme that the Starjammers regularly go on away missions (in Star Trek talk)? As in they go from their space ships to planets all the time?

Pretty clean mechanics due to mostly reuse, but it all seems thematic enough. 6 Life, 5 Defense, and Tough will make him hard to kill. Colossus is probably a good early comparison point.

Re: The Book of Ch'od - Design Phase

Tough with those stats will make him very, well, tough. :p I could see either his Life or his Defense coming down one for sure.

Beyond that and some small wording tweaks, we've discussed his powers in your design thread, and I'm on board with this. It'll be interesting to see how much Boarding Party does for the Starjammers.

Re: The Book of Ch'od - Design Phase

Colossus has the same stats except 6 defense instead of 5, and Steel Skin which is just Tough + Lava Resistant. Water Strength and Fastball special are probably about a wash. The drop power is decent, but not hugely expensive or gamebreaking, IMO.

Colossus stands at 260 and benefits from Mutant synergies. What's a thematic cost range for this guy? He may be fine as is.

Re: The Book of Ch'od - Design Phase

I would say 200s, though 215 would like the five pirates a perfect 1,000 point army.

Re: The Book of Ch'od - Design Phase

Good stuff. :up: No complaints from me, though I'm slightly surprised to find that Ch'od is amphibious. I guess that doesn't come up much in outer space. :lol:

Pretty much. There's only one spaceship (the Starjammer, hence the Starjammers), but they generally pop-in midway through an X-Men story out of nowhere as the cavalry/rescue team.

/deus ex machina. :lol:

Cool. Figured it was pretty much that.

Re: The Book of Ch'od - Design Phase

Okay, I'm thinking drop life 1 and start him at 215, then tweak it from there if need be.

Re: The Book of Ch'od - Design Phase

You know I'm definitely behind this design. I agree with trying to get his cost in at 215.

For a comparison, Rhino (who is 220) is actually much closer. They both have 6 life, 5 defense, and Tough, putting their survivability on exactly the same level. Ch'od has better offense (1 more move and attack than Rhino) and Drop Team in comparison to Rhino's Rhino Charge and Weak Minded. I think the current SP would probably come in at about 230. I'd say drop his life to 5 and also his move to 5 (I don't remember him being particularly fast and with Drop Team he won't even need the extra move), and try him at 215.

Re: The Book of Ch'od - Design Phase

On the other hand, if he came in at 235, the classic Starjammers (Ch'od, Corsair, Hepzibah, and Raza) would be 850. It's not as commonly played a number as 1000, but it makes a nice team and is probably better as an army than all five of them, given that one will always get left behind in the SZ.

Re: The Book of Ch'od - Design Phase

Just saw this thread. I like the sound of 215 and a 1000 point starjammers army. Just because he can drop in with 3 other Pirates, doesn't mean he has to. He could be held back with just 1 or 2 other pirates for a mid game drop in once your other pirates start getting into trouble.
