The Book of Capt. John Varan

My Touch Up:

Also Heracles seems to be missing from synergy.

The C3V Rules Team would like to add the following R&C:
Q: Can Capt. John Varan prevent the additional wounds from Mortal Strike?
A: Yes. The wounds from Mortal Strike are considered to be part of the attack.

I am not a native english-speaking guy, but is "prevent" the correct word here ?
I could easily (miss)understand this R&C as "Purple Heart prevents Mortal Strike wounds at all".

Maybe : "Does Capt. John Varan receive the eventual additional wounds from Mortal Strike ?" ..?

That's true, Varan does take extra wounds. He does not receive the wounds from Mortal Strike at all, but he does receive additional wounds due to it. So how about:
Q: Can Capt. John Varan prevent the additional wounds from Mortal Strike?
A: Yes. The wounds from Mortal Strike are considered to be part of the attack, so they are not placed on the original target. Varan, however, would receive wounds equal to the number that would have been inflicted by the attack, including the additional wounds from Mortal Strike.

Just got this guy and will be trying him out soon in the below build (and another upgrading Drake to 2.0).

Cpt. John Varan, Sgt Drake Alexander (RotV), Airborne Elite, Marcus Decimus Gallus (400).

Seems like it has a good toolbox. The AE get to stick around longer with boosted long range attacks, you have Drake who can wail on big things or charge podded common squads, Varan who can zip around for cleanup, and Marcus to help your heroes develop better and provide a beatstick if you need somebody to tie down a Krug or Q9.

After some of the other comments, I also like a MacDirks build with Thorgrim as their bonding hero after Alastair extends and ducks under cover behind Varan. You'll be rolling with a bunch of 7A Highlanders

Cpt. John Varan, Alastair, Thorgrim the Viking Champion, MacDirks x3 (510)

@Leaf_It / Art Team- I just randomly noticed but it appears John is having the same 'duplicate points' issue on his card that the Acolytes had.

EDIT: It's hardly noticeable on this one but I thought it might be worth pointing out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

hmm... The basic side also has a weird points thing. This was one of the very first C3V releases ever made, from all the way back 2011. I'm not sure we want to touch stuff from so far back. We'll post about it if we do decide to touch anything up.

Clayton Pierce can be added to the list of Jandar Humans protected by Purple Heart.

The army I want to try out with Varan. 500 pts Delta.

- Ebon Armor

- Cpt John Varan

- Clayton Pierce

- Johnny Shotgun Sullivan

- Kate Crawford

- Guilty McCreech

- Louis Mad dog Malone

Move in Ebon Armor as a first wave. As they die off put them on Varan and the supporting Lawmen. Move up Varan to a spot where he'll be able to shield Pierce and Sullivan. Slow roll up with the Lawmen. Try to pull off as many Shootouts as possible.
