The Book of Bob

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

Can we use gummi dinosaurs for the minis?

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

Actually does sound like it'd be an interesting project to rig a T-rex mini to have an easily removable/reattachable head. That'd beat the hell out of markers. Maybe not a solution for the masses, though.
I seem to recall someone on the forums rigging the Fen Hydra to have detachable heads (don't recall who). I'd love to be able to do that, but yeah, not exactly a simple solution. :)

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

Oh, I like the headless idea. I am so going to make that happen.
Was just scouting figures at Walmart. They have good options for a dollar or two.

I like L_O's suggestion as well. Does not make them completely invincible, you just have to kill them twice.

Or once and wait for them to expire when they're still in your face. :)

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

I did consider suggesting some sort of figure swap power as a workaround for markers. You could start with the damaged minis on the card.

While I prefer an approach that avoids AotP-style markers on bases, let's not forget my more pressing point, which is that it's a nearly unprecedented level of attack output, with almost no chance of losing activations for the entire round. Yeah, it's likely only one round of that, but as I've often noted, it doesn't take very long for big hitters to "earn their points" if they actually get to take a series of big swings at the right targets.

So, yeah, there should be some way to actually kill them in-round, even if it takes a few swings.

"nearly unprecedented level of attack output"
That is what I am going for here. :)

Thanks for the input all. I think we are honing in on it.
I may run some tests for fun and try a few of these versions of the mechanics.

That's what I was aiming for with my edit.

Honestly, I think with that change these guys should be fine, and really distinct - most likely in the mid 200s, though. :)

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

Yeah, I think LO's tweak is a good one.

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

Yes, that is exactly what we are talking about doing. Just purchased the figures. :)
Not sure if the dollar dinos will work. They are hollow inside. Might be able to use like a dowel rod to hold the end on.

Or magnets, gotta try magnets. :)

Well you've already heard of my magnet obsession...so...YEAH.

One way to deal with the hollow dino's is to use a hot glue gun to fill in the area of the neck on both ends after you cut.

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

Coming in late here, but is there a particular reason these guys couldn't be a 'hero squad' like the Cuckoos? That would let you keep 'To Tough To Die' working as it originally did but without the weird 'marker on the base' thing.

So something like so:

BOB ( OR CAROL OR TED OR RINGO )

SPECIES = DINOSAUR
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = DEVOURER
PERSONALITY = FEROCIOUS

SIZE/HEIGHT = HUGE 12 (2-Hex)

LIFE = 1

MOVE = 6
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 6
DEFENSE = 4

POINTS = ????

BOB & CAROL & TED & RINGO
After revealing an Order Marker on this card and before taking a turn with Bob, you may take a turn with up to three other figures you control that have the Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo special power.

TOUGH
When rolling defense dice against a normal attack, Bob always adds one automatic shield to whatever is rolled.

TOO TOUGH TO DIE
When Bob would receive 1 or more wounds from an attack or special power, you must ignore all wounds he would receive and place a Head Marker on this card. Before rolling for initiative each round, if there is a Head Marker on this card, you must destroy Bob.

SUPER STRENGTH

That would get the core mechanics working, then the power level can be tweaked from there. Also lets you tweak the stats individually, which could be useful as they're not all the same species of Dinosaur.

On making a T-Rex/etc. with a removable head:

Shouldn't be that difficult to do with a plastic Rex as long as you can find an area to cut at that won't leave too obvious a gap when attached and you get strong enough magnets/pins/whatever you're using to hold it together. Probably best to hit the figure with a heat gun first so it will be soft enough to cut with just an X-Acto knife, as you'll want the cleanest cut you can get.

Edit:

Forgot to mention, but make sure you get some proper grade rare earth magnets from a hobby store or the like, not crappy ones from Wal-Mart or something. You can get those things in all kinds of sizes and the hold they have is fantastic.

Here's some figures I used magnets in to give them 'launching' harpoons:

Note that while they're not taking a lot of weight, they are supporting a crazy amount of length here. The leverage from the length is really the harder thing for magnets to handle than straight weight, so you could almost support a T-Rex head with the ones I used here (and these are tinnnny). Like I said though, these come in all sorts of sizes and you can get much bigger ones.
Be careful with bigger magnets though, I've lost the skin from the tips of my fingers to them more than once.

Now that is a novel idea.
Would also allow us to give Ringo a smaller figure and eliminate the marker on the base mechanic.
Thanks Soundwarp.

Thoughts?

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

That actually works quite nice. I like it.

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

I quite liked the idea of another Unique Squad, but yeah... sadly, that may be the best way to go.

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

This will practically double my LDs. :)

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

All for that idea if it works out the best.

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

I like it, except they need to start with the head markers on their cards and remove them, not vice versa. They're not growing heads. :p

Only reason I worded it that way was so if someone made a detachable head mod they could use the severed heads as the markers. :lol: Also because I like making people give Dinosaurs head til they're burning up.

Starting with head markers and removing them is slightly safer mechanically though.

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

It is funny that Zatanna or Atom Eve could magically behead them if they start with them on the card.

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

If markers are removed instead of added, you could team them up with Zatanna and use her magic to grow their heads back!
Edit; Darn, got ninja'd by Bats :p

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

:lol: Ecin!

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

I like the idea of Zatanna being able to use her magic to behead them, not that it would actually kill them. Splitting them up into 4 different cards lets you maybe play with their stats a bit too, one could have the higher attack of the group or one could have the lowest, same for defense & move.

Re: The Book of Bob & Carol & Ted & Ringo (Big Breaths)

It also fixes the issue with size since poor little Ringo can have his actual size on his card instead of being labeled like the others...
