_________________________________________________________________

Character Bio – Roland Desmond’s brother, Mark, was the original Blockbuster, a hulking monster with a child-like mind. After taking experimental steroids to treat a mysterious illness, Roland developed an identical condition as his brother. However, through making a deal with the demon Neron, Roland was able to subsequently develop genius-level intellect, which he used to become a powerful crime lord with Bludhaven (a neighboring city to Gotham) under his thrall. He was also able to deduce the secret identity of Bludhaven’s superhero protector, Nightwing, and leverage this knowledge for nefarious purposes.

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Design Phase

NAME = BLOCKBUSTER
SECRET IDENTITY = ROLAND DESMOND

SPECIES = METAHUMAN
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = CRIME LORD
PERSONALITY = CONNIVING
SIZE/HEIGHT = LARGE 7

LIFE = 5
MOVE = 5
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 6
DEFENSE = 4
POINTS = 210

BLACKMAIL

At the start of the game, you may choose one opponent’s Unique Hero with a secret identity. If you win initiative with at least one Order Marker on this card and the chosen Hero is within 6 clear sight spaces of Blockbuster, the player controlling the chosen Hero must reveal and remove one Order Marker from the chosen Hero’s Army Card, if possible, or two Order Markers from the chosen Hero’s Army Card if the chosen Hero is a Vigilante.

TOUGH
When rolling defense dice against a normal attack, Blockbuster always adds one automatic shield to whatever is rolled.

SUPER STRENGTH

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Design Phase

Neuron does sound right for an intelligence-enhancing demon, but I suspect it was Neron. :p

Still dig the design.

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Design Phase

That one. I'll fix it. :up:

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Design Phase

Also, I think it's pretty cool that his Tough power helps Beast Man. It's a weird crazy way to get synergy, but I dig it! :p

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Design Phase

Is this the last Blockbuster in America? :)

I finally took this consistency thing too far ....

Fixed, thanks!

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Design Phase

Oddly fitting design as Nightwing had a whole run-in with Blockbuster during his red suit arc.

Yeah, when Nightwing was in Bludhaven, Blockbuster was pretty much his archnemesis. It was very Daredevil/Kingpin for a bit there, with Tarantula playing the role of Elektra.

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Design Phase

I propose we move Blockbuster to the Initial Playesting phase!

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - VOTE for Initial Playtest

Sweet. This passes. It'll be next up for me after Halo. Hoping to finish both before leaving town for a few weeks in June.

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Waiting for Initial Playtest

Any thoughts on good combinations with him? I want to run him with a couple of standard Criminal Synergy armies (Penguin (II), Hired Guns, Bodyguards, Street Thugs, all that). But I also want to do a couple tests with Order Marker removers.

I'm thinking about trying this army out: Beast (170), Green Lantern (John Stewart) (340), Speedy (90), Blockbuster (200), Ozymandias (200).

That gives you GL to protect and carry, Ozy and Blockbuster to steal two OMs at the start of the round, and Beast and Speedy to go hunting for the other two.

I figure his Order Marker removal is his biggest competitive concern, so it should be given space in testing.

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Waiting for Initial Playtest

Ooh, that second army looks nasty. Definitely would love to see that!

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Waiting for Initial Playtest

Yeah, planning to run it twice: against Fantastic Four and against a more Vigilante-based army.

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Waiting for Initial Playtest

It does raise the question of: Will we have too many OM-removal figures? If you can make an army like this and consistently shut down the other team and simply out-last them, that's a problem.

I'd hate to limit future designs that would thematically benefit from OM removal, but it's something to keep in mind.

Hopefully this team isn't as nasty and un-fun as it could be. :D

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Waiting for Initial Playtest

I didn't even include Solovar or Meteorite in the army, so that ship may have sailed already. I'm doing these tests to check for just that concern, though.

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Waiting for Initial Playtest

I do think I want to put a limitation on his Blackmail power, though. 4 clear sight spaces seem good?

Re: The Book of Blockbuster - Waiting for Initial Playtest

You could mitigate some of the stacking concern by requiring an OM on Blockbuster. Might not be a bad idea for his power to require some investment anyway.
