UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = REVENANT

POINTS = 350

BLACK RING RAMPAGE 3
Black Lantern may never have more than 3 black Battery Markers on this card. After revealing an Order Marker on this card and taking a turn with Black Lantern, you may remove a black Battery Marker from this card to take one additional turn with Black Lantern.

DEATHSTORM MATRIX 3
Instead of moving and attacking with Black Lantern, you may roll 3 combat dice. For each skull rolled, choose a figure or destructible object within 4 clear sight spaces of Black Lantern to receive a wound.

RING CHARGE OF DEATH 16
If an enemy figure that is not an Android, Construct, or Undead would be destroyed by Black Lantern's attack or special power, you may roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 16 or higher, place a black Battery Marker on each Black Lantern card you control, if possible.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Love it. Been anticipating this one. :up:

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

One minor change from the LCW: tweaked Deathstorm Matrix to be instead of moving and attacking, rather than instead of taking a turn. Minor symmetry break with Firestorm, but I think it clarifies how the first two powers interact.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

I'm happy with where this is

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Deathstrom Matrix is the edgiest, comic book-iest name for any power in the history of the medium. Very DC. :lol:

Yeah, I can't think of any real notes here. Sadistic ropes him into the Crime Syndicate, which isn't really an issue (since he's also kind of an evil version of a Justice League member) but I don't know if that's a goal?

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

If you wanted to move away from Sadistic to box him out of Crime Syndicate synergies (especially given you mentioned doing a CS version), maybe Merciless?

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Looks great. Excited to see expansion for one of my favorite factions! :) 300-305 for starting cost?

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Yeah, just over 300 sounds reasonable.

Cruel was my other choice for personality. I'm not real fussed about incidental Crime Syndicate stuff. I think there's an argument for leaving the space open for N52 Deathstorm though.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Dude's like big thing was making a dude turn his girlfriend into salt. I'd say leave him Sadistic and let the incidental synergy fall where it may.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

His character is definitely written as: "this guy's as big of a bully as possible."

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Looks fun! I don't know the Black Lanterns well so can't comment on his faction contribution. Frenzy power is nasty if he can keep it up. Is that capped at a single additional turn since it says "one additional turn?"

Deathstorm Matrix is sweet.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Yeah, one additional is traditionally a capping effect (see double attack).

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

For DM3, a DO is a figure correct?

Would not mind seeing an Undead restriction on destroying a figure to burn a marker to get a turn.

I assume, the BLs do not tend to go after other Undead?

Trying to figure out if he pairs well with the DJs.
I think Fear and Mortis could be decent but maneuvering may be tricky.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

BLs do typically drain life force from the, you know, living to charge their rings. That said, I'm not sure if that's something we called out on previous BLs.

A DO is a figure if the DO has a listed size. Otherwise it's not.

Edit: I see that the ring recharge is calling out the undead stuff already. I'd think his deathstorm matrix could probably hit anyone equally well, he just wouldn't necessarily charge off of some.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Right on. Always trying to throw the Undead a bone if possible.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Yeah, I think the Undead immunity is there where it really thematically counts already. Will run the checklists and propose we move forward later this afternoon, when I get a chance.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Sounds good. :up:

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Ronnie Raymond) (Design)

Updated the SP with a first stab at points - actually guessed a bit higher than Bats did (345), just eyeballing the comparison to Firestorm (330).

Same statline between the two. Deathstorm Matrix doesn't have as many tricks as Firestorm Matrix, but it's got the most important one, with a higher average wound output (lower ceiling, but more consistent power).

So he'll be a more stable value as a wounder, plus he's got the multi-turn potential and a faction to really call home. And SS, though that's not a huge deal. We'll see what he's worth in practice, but on paper he looks at least as good as Firestorm to me. Let's send him to initial.
