_________________________________________________________________

Character Bio - Doing the Blackest Night conflict, Black Hand sent several black power rings to infest the body of Crispus Allen, the mortal host for the Spectre. This created one of the most powerful Black Lanterns to date! By using the innate powers of the Spectre, this Black Lantern was able to resist Green Lantern Hal Jordan’s attempts to defeat it with the lights of the emotional spectrum. Only by allowing Parallax to once again take over his body was Hal able to free the Spectre, at which point the Spectre amplified the power of Star Sapphire Carol Ferris’ love for Hal to set the Green Lantern free.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Not Breathin

NAME = BLACK LANTERN
SECRET IDENTITY = CRISPUS ALLEN

SPECIES = UNDEAD
UNIQUENESS = EVENT HERO
CLASS = REVENANT
PERSONALITY = VENGEFUL
SIZE/HEIGHT = HUGE 8

LIFE = 12
MOVE = 4
RANGE = 2
ATTACK = 5
DEFENSE = 6
POINTS = 525

GAZE OF DEATH 2

Start the game with 1 black Battery Marker on this card. Black Lantern may never have more than 2 black Battery Markers on this card. If an opponent's figure without the Fearless personality ends its normal movement within 2 clear sight spaces of Black Lantern, you may remove a black Battery Marker from this card. If you do, inflict a wound on that figure and that figure's turn immediately ends.

HAUNTING
Black Lantern may move through all figures and never takes leaving engagement attacks. At the end of each round, you may place Black Lantern on any empty space on the battlefield, as long as he is placed adjacent to an opponent’s figure.

RING CHARGE OF DEATH 16
If an enemy figure that is not an Android, Construct, or Undead would be destroyed by Black Lantern's attack or special power, you may roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 16 or higher, place a black Battery Marker on each Black Lantern card you control, if possible.

SUPER STRENGTH

FLYING

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Not Breathin

Love it. Design looks really sweet. I thought we typically started with BL rings under charged or not charged at all so I wouldn't mind if he has a higher maximum of markers than he started with like 4-6.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Not Breathin

Hmm, that could be cool. Gaze of Death is a pretty powerful effect, so was trying to keep it in check, but that could be a good reason to bring him with some other BLs.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Not Breathin

I agree it's powerful that's why I wouldn't want to start with more markers, but the ability to charge more seems thematic. I just don't like the feeling of starting a BL with a 100% charged ring.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Not Breathin

Yeah, I can dig that. :up: We can always pull back on what he starts with/the cap if he's coming in too strong.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Not Breathin

Looks good! I like the power set, but don't know the character or theme well.

I'm mostly concerned about 7 range and 6 attack on a Flyer. That might be the strongest part of the design. He's practically a sniper that shoots for 7 dice much of the time. Pretty huge.

Also we don't have to specify "This" on lanterns anymore. Just call him Black Lantern rather than "this" Black Lantern.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Not Breathin

Yeah, now that LP mentions it, 7 Range does feel like a lot. Basic Spectre doesn't have range at all - any reason for the distinction here?

But powerset looks fun, so no issues there.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Not Breathin

You know, put it together so long ago, can't really remember the reasoning behind that huge range. Given that he'll mostly be using Haunting to get in people's faces (flying's not that great when attached to move of 4) I'm fine with a significant reduction in range (4? 5?).

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Not Breathin

Range of 4 is probably sufficient here.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Design

Off breathing. Updated to 4 Range, cut "this" from the Black Lantern references, and gave him a max of 4 batteries.

Calculator has him at 445 on my first go, so I'll try at 450 as planned.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Design

Sweet, digging this a lot.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Design

@LordVenoc @Soundwarp SG-1 anything in particular I should be looking at in regards to testing? Want to give y'all a chance to comment before I steamroll forward with a proposal.

Going to do the consistency checklist either tonight or tomorrow as well. Skipping the competitive since we're revamping that one.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Design

The turn ending power seems like it could be pretty devastating against certain match-ups, but it’s probably ok on an expensive Event Hero.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Design

Yeah, I'd love to hear some match ups I should try as sanity checks.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Design

Maybe try it against that Green Arrow/Black Canary build of yours, just to see if it’s fun to play against in one of the worst possible scenarios? Both Cyclopses are probably similarly screwed over.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Design

Yeah I'm not seeing any standout "I really really don't want to be engaged" figures at this point outside of your general long range snipery figures wanting to obviously avoid it. Ra's I fits that bill, but he's far from the best pick for an assassiny build these days.

Lockdown figures like Blob, Lockjaw, Living Mummy, Jean Grey are probably must grabs to try and abuse that Gaze of Death, especially Lockjaw since he can port a ranged attacker up to back up the others.

Any sort of passive movement/passive wounding would likely be a good pairing. Jason and Sam make a nice little pair that steers into both the Undead thing and the fairly passive wounding. Those guys plus Spectre and Lockjaw get you to 875, with Lockjaw able to port lil man Sam to the fight. Living Mummy is probably an overall better synergy pick for this pair, but probably saves you on Order Markers. Not as massive a deal here though as first round is probably just getting Mummy and Sam into place while Jason and Spectre get their on their own.

Event Hero status locks him out of Livewire/Eternal Warrior, but he still may appreciate Eternal Warrior being able to swap in for him on the tie down.

EDIT: Almost forgot. Any figure movers like our Lassoing Wonder folks or throwers could be good. Wonder Woman specifically would probably be an absolutely vicious combo, as people losing their powers and getting stuck between Spectre and Diana sounds like a death sentence.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Design

Judge Fear would be good if you are not going against a bunch of figures with SS.
He can move and lock down with no OMs. Undead to boot.
If we was not Event, Mortis would be nice.

Living Mummy is really awesome, once you get him into position.

I actually thought Death might work well with them? I know we generally rag on him, but the level of autowounds coming out of Spectre and Jason may set Death up nicely for his special to be able to bond with Spectre. Haven't used him before, so not sure how well it would work in practice.

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Design

He just costs so much for a chance to bond. I could see it working in the right matchups.
When it works it can wicked. Dysole slaughtered me with the DJs once. :)

Re: The Book of Black Lantern (Crispus Allen) - Design

Ugh. Forgot to ever propose this. I propose we move this to initial playtesting!

Competitive checklist is out of action right now. I'll try to do the consistency one soon.
