The Book of Biollante

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

I do think using the Animated Vines as an extension of her is a good way to bypass Intangible figures. And increase her range in a significant way.

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

The problem with that is you can take out the vines first and neutralize her.
Unless you have a mechanic to get around that.
Seems easier to just give her crazy range.

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

You obviously let her spawn them repeatedly. You just use that card as an extension of her.

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

Anything using the Animated Vines would have to jump through a ton of hoops because their attack of 1 accomplishes nothing in terms of giving Biollante more of a toolbox and it doesn't make thematic sense for Biollante to have Plant Animation. So I'd pretty much have to write a power that completely ignores anything the Animated Vines bring to the table other than their sculpt, at which point the sculpt is just extra mechanical baggage. I think it's better to abstract the vines.

I think the path forward is probably more like this: Regular range back down to 6. Then alter the approach to Grasping Plant Tendrils to be more like this.

GRASPING PLANT TENDRILS
Instead of moving Biollante normally, you may choose up to X enemy figures within 12 spaces of Biollante, where X is the number of Spore Markers on this card. Roll an unblockable attack die against each enemy figure. If you inflict a wound, place a Spore Marker from this card onto that figure's Army Card. An enemy figure with your Spore Marker on its card cannot move normally. At the end of the round, return any Spore Markers placed this way to this card.

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

That's super cool, just not sure I'd want to risk losing a spore marker and a potential big heal to stop one figure's movement. Maybe make the placement a "may," then you have the choice?

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

Yeah, I think you're right. Also, I think we've reached too high a level of complexity/text at this point. I have a streamlined version I'm mulling over that I'll try to post soon.

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

OK, I think the way to go is to lean into her being hard to kill, but keep her actual attack fairly tame until you get to Corrosive Spray time. I added another marker and made her main early offensive weapon the vines. I took out the triple attack. I also changed the range and attack on the special attack to make the numbers a bit easier to remember. Everything is factors of 3, now.

NAME = BIOLLANTE
SPECIES = KAIJU
UNIQUENESS = EVENT HERO
CLASS = DESTROYER
PERSONALITY = WILD
SIZE = HUGE 13

LIFE 6

MOVE 6
RANGE 6
ATTACK 6
DEFENSE 6
POINTS=1000

SPORE REGENERATION

Start the game with 3 yellow Spore Markers on this card. If Biollante would receive any number of wounds and be destroyed, you may instead remove a Spore Marker from this card, ignore those wounds, and remove all Wound Markers from this card.

GRASPING PLANT TENDRILS
At the start of each player’s turn, you may choose up to 3 figures within 12 spaces of Biollante. Roll one unblockable attack die against each chosen figure. If a figure receives a wound this way, it may not move until the start of the next player’s turn.

CORROSIVE SPRAY SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 9. Attack 9.
Biollante may only use this special attack if there are no Spore Markers on this card. If the defending figure receives one or more wounds from this attack, that figure is not considered to have clear sight on any other figures for the remainder of this round.

SUPER STRENGTH

Obviously I'll adjust and tweak and hone things in to get to 1000. If the movement denial is too much, I'll just take that out and leave the power as straight up wounding.

:lol:

I like it! Streamlined, I get the intent of the full design here, and looks effective. The movement stopping might be a bit overbearing, but it's definitely worth testing out. :up:

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

Ugh, it's like a tick or something.

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

LOL, that whole paragraph is full of him and his, not just the one sentence LP quoted.

OK, not full, but twice more.

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

Early returns! I think I want to adjust the defense down to 5 and try her out against Kong and against a midlevel Hero army next.

You really should switch to brackets or curly brackets for your numbers so (8) doesn't turn into an emoji every time. [8] or {8} seem better. :D

Or disable smilies in the post. :)

Yeah, that's a good [thought].

UNIT SUMMARY: I feel good about where she’s at overall. She feels solid at 1000. There may be some small tweaks needed here and there if she comes in too strong in public testing, but I feel like she’s about right as is. I’m going to lower the amount of figures she can grasp on one turn to 2 to give midlevel Heroes a bit more of a chance, though.

Re: The Book of Biollante - Watering (Initial Playtest)

I propose we move to Public Testing

Re: The Book of Biollante - Growing (VOTE for Public Playtes

Yea
Two losses to Kong is not surprising. I would put him at the top of the meta currently.

Re: The Book of Biollante - Growing (VOTE for Public Playtes

I think 1000 point figures are starting to come back down to Earth in the meta. :2cents:

Re: The Book of Biollante - Growing (VOTE for Public Playtes

Time will tell. Should be interesting to see who comes out on top at Con.

Re: The Book of Biollante - Growing (VOTE for Public Playtes

Dinosaurs, obviously!

Just need one more here. :-D
