Character Bio – A long-time henchman of evil sorcerer Skeletor, Beast Man has dominion over the wild creatures of Eternia and uses this power to help pursue Skeletor’s many nefarious schemes. Despite his great strength and savage dominance, Beast Man efforts often flounder due to his general short-sightedness and clumsy rage.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

NAME = BEAST MAN

SPECIES = ETERNIAN
UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO
CLASS = MINION
PERSONALITY = SAVAGE
SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 6

LIFE = 6
MOVE = 6
RANGE = 1
ATTACK = 6
DEFENSE = 4
POINTS = 280

BEAST MASTERY

After revealing an Order Marker on this card and before taking a turn with Beast Man, you may choose one figure you control within 6 clear sight spaces of Beast Man that is a Common, Uncommon, or Squad figure, with the Ferocious, Savage, or Wild personality. Take a turn with the chosen figure or the chosen figure's squad, if it is a Squad figure. You may not take any additional turns with any figures you control other than Beast Man.

CLUMSY SMASH
After attacking an adjacent small or medium figure, if it was not destroyed, place that figure up to X clear sight spaces away from its original placement where X equals the number of wounds you inflicted with that attack. A figure moved by this special power will not take any leaving engagement attacks. Then, one at a time, roll an unblockable attack die against all figures adjacent to the defending figure, even if it was not moved.

TOUGH
When rolling defense dice against a normal attack, Beast Man always adds one automatic shield to whatever is rolled.

SUPER STRENGTH

Why is Beast Mastery limited to Unique Heroes? It would be fun for it to work on common heroes or even squads.

You're right! If anything, I think it might work better restricted to Common Heroes, Uncommon Heroes, and Squads. I think that was the missing piece in my thinking on this. He's mostly controlling more "mindless" beasts that wouldn't really qualify as Unique Hero/main character types.

The one potential issue with that is it restricts his bonding to just the Frost Giant and the Grizzly Shark right now (both of which feel like good fits, though).

Edit: So I could see making it Common and Uncommon Heroes only, since there are no squads for me to test with.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

Looks fun! I know nothing about MotU, though.

Agree on commons! The dino in the public designs would bond with him too, which sounds like a good fit. Unfortunately it's not close to done so probably wouldn't be able to test together.

I love the smash power. Simple knockback is always fun. I also love that it's not optional, making it feel more clumsy! :)

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

Ohhhh, I really like pushing the Grizzly Shark pairing.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

The mini is pretty chunky, right? Does it qualify as Medium 6?

I could go either way on his bonding. Including Uniques has a lot more flexibility but is less thematic, I assume. I'll trust the LD there.

Just make it all beasts that aren't human and see where it goes.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

If you go cut out all unique heroes this won't be an issue, but I was wondering if there was any way to change Conan's species? I feel like we have a species changing power somewhere but I don't recall where and if it would even work on a human.

He looks pretty good, not sure if you are tied to the point guess for any reason but I wouldn't be surprised if it went up after testing. I do dig the idea of the Frost Giants having a new army build.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

Could we have a list of Ferocious, Savage or Wild UHs?
Looking fun, though. :up:

I can't remember, were there some pics of the Mega Construx figures next to other figures?

Well, that I can think of, you could:
1) Have your own Werewolf scrape him, turning him into a Lycanthrope (which feels kind of fitting, actually...) - requires attacking your own figure and inflicting at least one wound (which might not be the worst thing for Conan, actually)
2) Have Arnim 'I am Sviss' Zola or Jackal clone him - requires he dies first and you hit the required roll, plus Jackal (who I think has an easier role?) would cause the clone to degrade
3) Blast him with the E-Ray - not cost effective, as the only current reliable way to bring the E-Ray into a battle is 620 point pseudo-hub for a different faction Apocalypse, but you could also do so if you found the E-Ray as a random glyph

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

Thanks for the run down Lazy! The 130 point werewolf attacking Conan for 1W sounds like the best option out of that bunch. What is there personality? Maybe a Cap-Wolf & Beast Man team-up for a bigger army build?

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

Cursed, sadly. They would have fit perfectly, thematically. I'd kind of be in favour of editing their Personality for synergistic purposes if we wanted - they could use the help (I know they're getting it from Capwolf, but still) and Cursed feels a little odd as a personality to me (overlaps a little much with Tormented, which feels more like a personality anyway).

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

Yeah, I wouldn't mind tweaking the WW personality to wild or savage so they can get in on the fun here. I guy who can make the WW & Frost Giants into a playable army would get my attention. Those are two units that seem to consistently under perform for me.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

I think I’m pretty set on going away from Unique Hero at this point.

I’m sure he’s much bigger. Good catch. Just forgot to update that. I’ll measure him against hexes tonight.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

:up: I like cutting the UH's out as well.

I'm not seeing anything Savage that isn't a UH, but maybe the Savage Land T-Rex is one?
Only Wild non-UH I see are the Animated Vines.
Ferocious gives us the Frost Giants, Man-Bat Assassins, & Grizzly Shark.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

Might cut Wild then, as the vines aren’t a good thematic fit. I can either stick with two personalities or add another third one if something makes sense.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

The uncommon werewolves are the only thing that really seems like a good fit after looking through the list, I'd advocate to change their personality to Savage rather than rope in Cursed though. I liked the idea of him leading some gorillas, but the GWC are Loyal (which isn't a good fit) and can already bond so they don't really need the shout out. I kind of like the idea of boosting the Alien Drones some too, but they are not really beasts and the menacing personality doesn't sound like a good fit to me. Only other theme fits might be the common rats or maybe fire ants, but I don't know why you'd ever choose to bond with them over the uncommon hero options and their personalities are not good fits.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

T-Rex is Wild but could be Savage. I think I will use Devourers to tie them together if need be. When I get around to a Savage Land T-REX it will be Savage for sure and a solid bonding option.
The Lost Land T-REX is looking really good as well. Should not take much to finish them.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

I'll just cut Wild. Then you can make the call of whether you want that pairing for the Savage Land T-Rexes or not, T-Spinny. :)

I think there's enough to test with (I took out uniques when I sorted and missed a couple of Unique Squads that way).

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

A quick hex measurement puts him at Medium 6. That'll be one of my updates.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

I used Wild for Werewolf (Jacob) this, if we change the Werewolves personality, that's what I'd advocate for.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

Werewolf synergy isn't essential for Beast Man, but I do plan to cut Wild from his options due to the current list of Wild figures that aren't Unique/Event Heroes being non-thematic.

Re: The Book of Beast Man (Breathing Period)

Loving the personality synergy here, and yet another use of Clumsy Smash! It gets around.
