_________________________________________________________________

Character Bio - Aqualad first learned the ways of being a superhero as a protege of Aquaman. He was a founding member of a team of teenaged superheroes consisting originally of himself, Robin, Miss Martian, Superboy, and Kid Flash. Aqualad is a very calm person, a trait unshared by the rest of his teammates. Soft-spoken and clear-headed, he has a tendency to think things through and formulate plans before taking any sort of action. He tries to see the good in all people and often acts as the voice of reason amongst his teammates, who are rarely as cool-headed as he is. He was unanimously elected by the team to be their leader after their first mission together due to these qualities.

Looking really good! The only thing to add to the third post would be a possible background image.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - breathing period

I knew that post felt empty but couldn't place it. :) Thanks Bats.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - breathing period

No prob. Also a good idea to post a link in the Outer Sanctum Index and Discussion Cave and to @ the six current Heroes to let them know this is live. (Since membership is so all over the place, I'll help you out on that last one):

Nice work putting the art stuff together. The Art team is going to love you.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - breathing period

Amusingly, the other Aqualad could be this Aqualad's sidekick.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - breathing period

Bit of a time warp involved, but I could see it happening. Like when Tim and Dick Robin teamed up during Zero Hour.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - breathing period

I know we've kind of backed ourselves into a corner, but the more I think about it, the more it bothers me we have a Titan that calls out other Titans from a universe where the Teen Titans don't actually exist. It's not quite "calling out Metahuman on a Marvel card" level of iffy for me, but it's close.

I'd also like a bit more specificity on the name for Young Justice... though I think we've already done the other Young Justice leaders so I guess there's not much chance of confusion going forward.

I think art-wise we'd need something from the Earth-16 version of him - I know I have tentative plans for the Rebirth version, at least. (I also don't love that the mini is clearly not Kaldur - I mean, Kaldur with a backpack? Ridiculous. :p But I acknowledge we play the hand we're dealt there.)

Mechanically though, he's solid! I'm comfortable with pretty much everything here.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - breathing period

I originally had "Young Justice Leader" as the power name, but Bats suggested just using Young Justice. MrNobody pointed out the team isn't actually called Young Justice in-universe, it's called "The Team". The name could probably be improved further but I'm cool with any of the options we've had so far.

Good point with the art. It's been surprisingly difficult to find suitable art of Kaldur from Young Justice or associated comics. I added one to the 3rd post that I think works, though.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - breathing period

To clarify, I don’t have a problem with any Young Justice name. Just raising it as a point of potential discussion.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - breathing period

Can't be a leader of something that doesn't exist, though, whereas "Young Justice" as a concept still works.

His Lightning power is magical?
Nice work on the Checklists, I have not quite embraced them. :)

Looks good. Pre-yea for initial playtesting.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - breathing period

I propose Aqualad move to Initial Playtesting.

Yea: Bats, Karat

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - vote for Initial PT

Even though I do think the OM's being required to be on his card should have mostly addressed my concerns, I'd still ask @dok for a sanity check when it comes to mass figure movement powers. He just sees exploits there that I don't. Like maybe him with just OM1 & the X can move a group of 3 figures up effectively in some way.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - vote for Initial PT

I'll Nay here at this point - I'm just not comfortable moving forward with him as a Titan when he's not a Titan. I can live with the callout in his power, even if I don't like it, but at bare minimum I'd want Sidekick for his left box.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - vote for Initial PT

Sidekick would be a weird class for a leader though.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - vote for Initial PT

Good point, YK. I doubt the Titans group would have a game breaking pod, but figure movement is usually where game-breaking designs pop up.

I understand your reasoning, johnny. I feel like Aqualad is a Titan in all but name: he leads a team of young superheroes. For some reason they don't use the "Teen Titans" name in their universe, that's the only reason he's not called a Titan. Calling him a Sidekick would be a misrepresentation of his character, especially considering his role as a leader. And using another class would just lock him out of synergy with the very people he's supposed to lead.

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - vote for Initial PT

He’s not a sidekick though. I thought we decided long ago to call Young Justice Titans for simplicity, since like 80-90 % of the team is shared. If we want to start a new synergy web from scratch, this guy should not be made right now.

I know my YJ plans were years and years ago, but they were all planned to work with the Titans we had built. Nightwing leads them just as much as Aqualad in the show, too

Re: The Book of Aqualad (Kaldur'ahm) - vote for Initial PT

I guess I agree that it bothers me a bit...but what viable alternative is there really? Many of the thematic YJ members have some sort of synergy. If you play a Leader Kaldur with Dick (Nightwing, cause he’s the Titans one) or Superboy he’s not going to synergize with them which makes no sense, unless you argue they’re from different universes and don’t know each other.

Within the realm of the show he’s never really shown as a sidekick. He seems to sort of be off-screen but I don’t really like basing designs on off-screen/page stuff, you know? Plus it does feel weird to have a Sidekick leading all these Titans.

Is there a place where we could discuss some in-sanctum stuff related to this issue?

EDIT: I’m a sleepy pudding brain. This isn’t in the public! My main issue is with what having him as a Sidekick would do to working with Roy. Red Arrow has Sidekick synergy, but most of our YJ characters will be Titans, especially if we ever do a Titans Wally. Arsenal has Titans synergy but Sidekick Kaldur would get excluded, which would be especially weird if we do a Titans Wally and he’s the only one left out. The YJ members we already have form a really tight synergy web, so it’ll hurt even more if Kaldur is left lut.

I’d struggle to see YJ Artemis as a Sidekick as well, that’s not really the core of the character at all.
