What are you doing here? Go vote!

Spring is in the air, and you know what that means! Another fabulous custom competition has been put together by yours truly, Dr.G. Treants are our focus today, or ents, or treefolk, or whatever you like to call big walking tree people. Here are a number of minis to choose from, and I'm sure you can find more if you look around the internet.

Here are some minis that aren't all hodge-podged together:
Spoiler Alert!

Entries must be in by April 9, as the poll will go up sometime on the 10th.

Rules:

1. Entries must be sent to me via PM.

2. Keep your entry anonymous while the contest is running.

3. Only 1 entry per member.

4. You may not vote for your own entry as the winner (even if it is the best), and you must vote if you enter.

5. Your submission must be made for this contest (no reusing your old, saggy customs). Actually, you may use customs you've already made.

Other Clarifications:

You may enter if you do not make a card for your unit. If you submit the entry early enough I will make a card for you. Also, it's pretty easy to make your own, just use @Xorlof 's awesome card creator.

If you want to change your entry you can, just PM me before I post the poll.

Character bios are allowed, and they might tip the scales in your favour so I recommend them.

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

It's great to see another one of these up! I do have a quick question, though: the title of this thread says that the entries are due by April 9th, while the main post says that they're due on April 2nd. I assume that the former is a typo?

Haha, sure was a typo. Thought I edited it out before anybody saw it, too. Looks like you caught me.

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

Well, shoot, you've done called me out. I'll have to do something.

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

I will go ahead and enter for fun. I usually make superscape stuff, but Im in a card making mood, so what the heck

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

What the hay. I shall give it a shot. Been wanting to try my hand at customs for while anyway

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

Threw my hat in the ring. As much time as I've spent with C3G, I've actually never tried to come up with a custom for classic before - very different design headspace to be in. I've had my eye on the last couple of these contests, though, so I figured I may as well give it a shot.

Trying to figure out how to price things in classic after spending so long in the SuperScape arena is... tricky.
Spoiler Alert!

Lol at quote - and not at all inaccurate. Supers are pound for pound cheaper

I'd disagree with that statement - were Charos designed by C3G, he'd end up costing significantly more due to the stats alone. He'd probably beat most comparably pointed C3G heroes one on one, with some exceptions. In the end, the primary thing to note is this - in Superscape, threat to heroes is weighed heavier, in Classic, threat to squads should be weighed heavier. Q9 actually wouldn't be too unreasonable in Superscape - Punisher would probably be considered better due to synergies, manoeuvrability and the fact that Assault Rifle can be boosted while Queglix Gun can't. Q9 would still be tougher too kill, but 4 Life 7 Defence feels a little less adamantine in superscape - still rough for that cost, but not the same level of 'how do I scratch this bastard?' it is in Classic - and the fact that Q9 would be less of a big deal isn't because Superscape units are just that much better (I actually don't think there's that much of a power discrepancy between the two games), it's because the types of units he'd face would just be better equipped to deal with him - smaller numbers, bigger defence, bigger attacks. He'd still be good - perhaps even undercosted - but not the same monster as in Classic.

Look forward to seeing you in the contest, Ronin - I'll definitely be entering myself, as well. :)

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

Been wanting to enter a contest for awhile, but always got side tracked. Entry on the way.

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

This will be my very first contest, how do I enter.
My custom units are not all tree based, but I made some tree based. The custom units are from the 1st page of this thread and they are called, Dread Wood, Val Goldenbark, Wise Oak, Defenders of Oak, Ironbark Protector, Ancient Forest Golem, and Forest Golem.

Thanks for the entry, @Heroscaper 101 ! However, I do like to keep the entries anonymous for the duration of the contest. I've saved the picture to my computer, so if you want to remove the card from that post it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if you want to send a PM to me with EDIT: the other ones, so they can be posted with this card in the poll, that would help a lot to. Feel free to PM me for any more assistance.

To the rest of you, uh, try not to look at the picture in the previous post. ;)

Good luck to you and all the ent-ries so far!

Less than a week to get those entrees in!

I'm rooting for you! If you're looking for a fun reason to make some customs, you're barking up the right tree! Maybe this will plant some seeds for your creativity! A lot of the entries I've received are very in-tree-ging! Don't forgest to attaxe your card to the PM you send me! You won't beleaf how long I can continue these puns! I'm probably knot oakay! You probably arbored at this point! If I do too many more you'll surely weep, willyou? I could keep this up for ever, green you wood be at that point! I should probably branch out my comedy stratetrees! Maple you wish this would end, but you've got to admit it's put you in a cherry mood! I know it's made me feel peachy! I've really gotten the mosst out of this! You're probably a lot alder now than when you started reading this post (get it? Post?)! These jokes are definitely pining! I should spruce them up a bit! I'm sure you're sequoia'f them!

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

You probably arbored at this point!

A power I considered and rejected:

Arboring a Grudge
When attacking a figure that has inflicted a wound on Tree Thingy, roll two additional dice.

Dang, only a few days. I need to get moving! Time to dig up some old treefolk customs... :ponder:

Edit: Are there recommended sizes/heights anywhere for the minis in the OP? I know most of them are reasonably large, but the one I recognize from Mage Knight would be a Medium 5 size.

I probably should have done this earlier, but I updated the OP to reflect the heights I found for these guys in about 10 minutes on Google. I don't know how reliable those heights were though, since you say that the one from Mage Knight is medium five but Troll and Toad said it's 1.5 inches... Maybe you were talking about the one that's in the collage and not in the spoiler, though. Or maybe Troll and Toad has a defective ruler.

Medium 5 is about 1.5 inches, so that should be right. Though the one in the spoiler that says it's 3"... I think I have that figure (not in front of me) and he's definitely a more normal sized dude. (For comparison, this guy is literally 2 guys stacked on top of each other and they list him at 2.25" which is probably correct.) Maybe T&T is counting the base, though, because MK humans themselves can be smaller than Heroscape figures, but they're listed at 1.5".

Based on that, do these Heroscape conversions seem correct(ish)?

Spoiler Alert!

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

OK so it took me like all of 5 minutes one I realized the contest was ending soon to get the creative juices flowing and put together a card and bio. Uploaded, PM'd, and contest entered! :D

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

Tomorrow is the last day to ent-er!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that you think I'm quite a sap after reading the last pun post, but you can stick that idea where photosynthesis can't occonifer. I can needle in a few more if I deciduous to. Yew were hoping that last post would be the pineacle of my jokes on this topic, but it was just tinder for the fire; in spite of how radical that post was it was still just the radicle in this comedic germination. I won't be stumped in my pursuit of tree pun perfection, and I won't trunkate this post no matter how unpoplar it is! This is figger than the boleth of us, cone't you seed that? This is about libertree everywhere; for alder and younger, larch and small, tannin and pale, smart and graft, cinnamon and holy man! There is mulch at stake here! I'm aspen for your help, so who's with me? We're tired of being bamboozled! We walnut stand fir it! WE WALNUT STAND FIR IT! It will take gall, and it will be hawd, but together we can free tree-puns frond the gnarly hands of comedic sticks in the mud!

And with that, I take my leaf.

Re: Springtime Custom Competition - Entries Due by 4/9

The last day is here!

I'll use up the last wittle bit of my wit and branch out from the last couple posts with a fitting smiley. :deadhorse:
