Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion

I'm happy to give my  to review Tokanto Daishi.

Though I have to wonder why the name changed again...

As before, nay to induct. I'm glad to hear that qt was open to the resubmission, Tiranx.

 I'm hopeful that qt. will come back and get involved here again, I miss his creations and his presence.

And caps, he's not on to induction yet. He hasn't even been accepted for review  . I know you're already set on your decision, though...

Tokanto Daishi by qt. bangerang has receive 5 Yeas votes for review (Super Bogue, Scytale, vegietarian18, superfrog, and nyys) and moves onto united fanscape review.

Interesting, I didn't even notice that until you mentioned that. I have no idea. The picture was saved under the original name of the figure and I had to edit my post to change it to the current name.

Maybe Daishi was inspired by Tomoe Gozen to flip his name;).

I was partial to the name the unit had last time it was submitted, Kantono Daishi, but the name Tokanto Daishi is fine.

I could not see any other changes to the unit. Since I already reviewed him once before in his current form,

I vote  to induct Tokanto Daishi into the SoV.

Tokanto Daishi by qt.bangerang, the only thing that I see that is different here is the name, so I will still vote Yea to induct this unit as well.

That's funny. I didn't realize what version of Daishi I gave Tiranx. The name doesn't really matter to me so you can use the Tokanto Daishi card or the Kantono Daishi card below. You guys make the call.

Well, I  either way.

I like the Kantono version better. Rolls off the tongue better. :)

(PKMN fans anyone? ;))

Yep, now let's have ninja's named johto, hoenn, sevii, sinnoh, unova, and whatever the x and y games region is going to be called.

I'm so glad to see Dashi back ! I really like the design and my love of thematics armies made me buy it as soon as I saw him !

Just sometime I wished he add a little range, like range 4, just so he do a little something instead of just moving and commanding. And such little range will make him more tricky to play : do you move near the ennemies to attack, at the risk of being attacked (well, you have counter strike, can be good !). If you want to attack, are you able to maintain the line of sight needed to activate ninjas ? I know he have 6 move and phantom walk, but I don't feel range 4 would make him broken nor able to kyte anything.
Or an attack of 3 instead (without range), 2 seems so few you never want to try to hit something, by fear of not killing it and being unable to commands ninjas. With an attack of 3, 4 with height, it would create more situation were you hesitate to attack with him. He is a former samurai, his attacks of 2 doesn't seems right (at least for me).
I would prefer range 4 attack 2 (he is holding something that could be a kunai), as to not make him too powerfull against all melee armies late game.
Well, I know this thread is not a workshop, sorry for that ;-)

Whatever, I like him a lot and am looking forward to see him become "official" !

Hmmm... there are some very interesting ideas here. Personally, I think that if he had range, he would be a bit broken. Now if he dropped Counterstrike and added range, that could work.

I'd like to submit something for review:

Caldar Woodsmen

As far as the sculpts go, there seem to be a fair few. Around 70-80 for one and over 100 for another. I'm on the lookout for other figures that would work for it, so I'd ask for a little tolerance concerning figure availability.

Spoiler Alert!

Could we see a little more detailed information about mini availability?

Counts:

coolstuffinc: 13 Human Rangers; 12 Dalelands Militia

Auggies: 40 Human Rangers; 8 Dalelands Militia

TrollandToad: 0 Human Rangers; 2 Dalelands Militia

Minitauremarket: 0 Human Rangers; 6 Dalelands Militia

Ebay: over 27 Human Rangers;9 Dalelands Militia

Paizo: 33 Human Rangers; 0 Dalelands Militia

danddminis.com: 7 Dalelands Militia
Beholderthebargains.com: 3 Dalelands Militia
Gamehollow.com: 6 Dalelands Militia
Altereatlitygames.com 4 Dalelands Militia
ebay.co.uk: more than 10 Dalelands Militia
Strikezoneonline.com: 3 Human Rangers; 1 Dalelands Militia
Nobleknight.com: 2 Dalelands Militia

Totals: 112 Human Rangers; 73 Dalelands Militia

I just got off of Ebay and was looking at LOTR miniatures. Any kind of Ranger from the LOTR TMG series would work as an adequate substitute (or I could change the figures on the card). LOTR minis seem to be pretty prevalent, and I think they are still produced (at least the unpainted ones in the big army boxes).

It's not our job to find acceptable substitutes. Look around and post some if you think that is necessary.

I'm more lax than most here when it comes to availability, and will be here as well. Still, 73 is low. Not good but I can live with it.

The overall design is solid. Only two attacks per turn but quick positioning and auto-skulls can make up for that. Only two life points per card but Evergreen Camouflage is pretty nice. I'm willing to give them a try, expecting that they will only be decent on the right maps (with Evergreens) against the right opponents (no special attacks).

 to review Caldar Woodsmen

I have no problems with the design. Actually, I quite like it. Looks really fun and thematic.

I am worried about the availability of the Daelands Militia though. The numbers are already below acceptable quantities, and the numbers on DnD minis are only going down. And especially for a design like this, where you will want around five squads, it just doesn't seem like I can stretch it. to review Caldar Woodsmen, but I would be happy to change my vote if a more viable second sculpt is found. 100+ availability would be ideal, so 20 people could get enough of the sculpts.

What he said. Ideally, there would be even more than the 100+ that vegie mentions. 150 would be nice.

I too like this design but have to say  for now.

Whoops, I'm going to jump on this  bandwagon, too. That's just not enough availability for me.

I'm going with Scy on this one. There are rough guidelines we all follow as far as availability goes, but nothing set in stone. This is on the low side, but I like this design. to review Caldar Woodsmen.

I have found a miniature for the Caldar Woodsmen to replace the Dalelands Militia figure.

There are a number of Gondorian Rangers from the LOTR TMG Combat Hex game (BS069, RK065, BS067, TT061, TT063, BS068, TT062, RK066, RK064). I can hardly keep them apart and there seems only to be a slight difference in the pose. I'm not sure where else to look other than Ebay, but a quick search through ebay yielded over 150 of all of them.

Would it be possible to offer this figure as the replacement for Dalelands Militia without editing the card at the moment? I'm not the quickest at getting the graphics part done and it would take a while to get it changed on the card.
