Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs - Kola Kongi & Kelvin Jax

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Sam & Merry

Your Ringwraith link is dead. Would it be possible to that that reposted?

Other requests/suggestions (as someone who has picked up a fair number of these minis to use in Heroscape):

Haradrim Warriors/Archers
Grishnakh
Uglok
Gondorian Soldiers/Archers
High Elf Archers
Rohirrim
Saruman

Great job either way.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Sam & Merry

Thanks for pointing that out, badger. The links have been fixed.

As for requests, I'm always glad to work on LotR customs for people who have figures I don't. Just post some pictures of the minis and give me some time, and I'll see what I can do.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Sam & Merry

TWO QUESTIONS:

#1.
Is any one else curious about and anxious to see what the WizKids are going to do with a "Lord of the Rings - HeroClix" game later this year? I'm hoping that their models will be similar in scale to both LotR:TMG and HeroScape and use different sculpts for the basic heroes, thus giving us options for our HS customs like Raelin and Sgt. Drake. At least it will provide us with another source for these figures.

#2.
Is any one else planning to attend GenCon-11 in Indianapolis, IN the first week of August? The surviving hard-core fans of the Sabertooth Combat Hex game (LotR:TMG) are planning to be there to run their annual National Championship Tournament. So you might look for it on the schedule and plan on taking a break from HeroScaping to watch these miniatures from Middle Earth in action the way they were originally intended.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Sam & Merry

1. Yes.
2. I wish I were going.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Sam & Merry

If they are anything close to the Combat Hex LOTR by Sabertooth Games that are being used in this thread, they will be awesome, as the Combat Hex figs are simply beautiful.

Wow badger, you don't mess around, do you? :)

I was actually thinking of actual pics of the minis, since the ones I can pull off the web (like those you posted) usually have a downward angle that doesn't always work. I'll see what I can do, though.

Hey Johngee, glad to see you're still following this thread. I'm still grateful for that trade we did that allowed me to get my hands on some of these LotR figures. As for your questions:

1) Yes, I'm very curious to see what the minis look like, especially whether they stick with the movie versions of the characters or go with the books.

2) No GenCon trips for me in the foreseeable future, sadly.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Sam & Merry

No demands...no hurry....if you get to them/some..awesome. If not, that is cool too.

Gondorian Ranger

Gondorian Archer

BTW: I have used 3x of the Gondorian Rangers (and also 3x Lothlorian Elves: Archer, Bowman, & Ranger) ...as a PROXY Squad Unit of Aubrien Elf Archers, since they are sooo darn hard to find and Exxxpensive on eBay!

I would love to see the Gondorian Archers used in a similar manner as a range unit supporting the Knights of Westron and maintaining a Medieval themed appearance.

Also, I've always thought that the Rohirrim Warrior figures would make great Vikings.

@ Sherman Davies - Yup, I'm still here... right across the River, but I've got a lot going on and never enough time. It was a fair trade and I'm glad I was able to help you out. Hopefully this summer I'll be able to break out some more of my LotR's from the subterrainian dungeon of my storage facility; - ) hehe. LO^OK me up if you're ever in Joyzee, especially in the vicinity of Wildwood or Atlantic City. By June 1st I'll be permanently residing in Cape May County.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

With Wizkids/NECA releasing Gears of War Heroclix later this year, I couldn't resist trying my hand at converting the characters to Heroscape customs. Here's the first one I've worked on, Marcus Fenix:

MarcusFenix.jpg

For those unfamiliar with the videogame, it's a third-person shooter that emphasizes tactical movement, flanking and, above all, taking cover and fighting from it. The hitzone silhouette is supposed to represent the game's cover mechanic by allowing Marcus to avoid enemy fire behind low bridge walls or other obstacles. This is just my first pass, I'll probably choose a better mini picture once the figures have been released.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

Just popped in here for the first time, and I noticed something I should probably mention.

On Frodo Baggins, The One Ring states: "an opponent you choose may roll 1 additional attack die for every figure she controls for the rest of the game." The way I read that, if the opponent controls 8 figures, then that opponent would get +8. However, reading the description indicates that you intended this as a +1 permanent glyph ability.

Perhaps it should say this: "and choose an opponent. For the rest of the game, each figure the chosen opponent controls may roll 1 additional attack die."

Love the new avatar, btw. That's one mean ape! :)

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

Thanks for the catch, man. If I ever get off my butt and finish playtesting Frodo (along with Faramir, Gandalf and Saruman) I'll fix the wording on the final draft of the card.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

WOW that title was confusing me.

Sorry man, this started out as my Lord of the Rings custom thread, but I pretty much stick all my non-superhero customs in it. I'll try to steer it back towards LotR when I get around to badgermaniac's requests.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

I'm a little late to the game since this thread was in 2009, but I wanted to comment (praise, mostly) these LOTR cards. Awesome Ability Names!

From a quick internet search, it seems like the 8-figure starter pack is still pretty affordable at $15-20.

If you are thinking about getting these LotR figures, then you should start with this guy's store: http://stores.ebay.com/Big-Coin-Collectibles?_rdc=1

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

Great cards! Good custom work. I've always been a LotR fan. One of the best trilogies of all time.

"BOOOM!"

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

Well met!

I don't know what it is with the Gang of Four lately. Everybody wants to be Utgar versus the world. Last week, it was Taeblewalker's Halloween dungeon. Next month, it's Sherman's recreation of Amon Hen, with Sherman, naturally, playing the Orcs against chas, Taeblewalker and I. Here's his description. The attached map is great, by the way [to the email, that is].

"Subject: Next gameday map and scenario
Hey guys,

I've attached a map I've designed for our next meeting. It's inspired by the Amon Hen battle in Lord of the Rings. Here's what I'm thinking for the scenario, which is also inspired by that battle:

Players: The three of you as the heroes vs. me as the evil horde, using the cooperative play rules.

Armies: Jandar, Ullar, Einar Aquilla or Vydar for the heroes vs. Utgar or Valkrill for me. C3V/SoV units allowed, no Marvel.

Points: TBD, although I'm thinking 400 for each of you vs. 1000 for me.

Start zone spaces: 21 (blue) spaces divided between the three of you vs. 49 (red) spaces for me.

The scenario will be one in which the heroes must safely escort a figure (likely Kyntela Gwyn, unless someone drafts her) to the river at the far end of the map. The horde's goal will be to either prevent this in a set amount of time (8 rounds?) or to kill all the heroes. The heroes win if the figure occupies any of the river's spaces at the end of a round. The figure does not move on its own; instead, all units in the game, both yours and mine, are considered to have the Carry ability for that figure. The figure cannot be attacked or targeted in any way.

Any questions so far?

* * * * *

. . . my LotR customs and can be found here:

You are free to use most of my LotR customs in this scenario if you wish, just let me know which ones, because a few of them have yet to be playtested.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

Arrrgh! Darn it, I can't possibly make it to NYC next week. I love LOTR and the custom cards that Sherman has done and also have a bunch of the old SaberTooth figures that I want to customized for HeroScape someday (when (IF) I ever find the time).

What day are you talking about - this weekend 10/28-30 or the following 11/04-06? ...because I was hoping to see at least some of the Gang Of Four at MechaniCon in West Chester, PA.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

Well met!

Actually it's the Friday before Thanksgiving, but PA is a bit far for me, especially as I have a gig on Monday nights.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

Yeah, I was considering going to Mechanicon, but I'll be helping chas run an errand in New Jersey on Friday. Bummer.

Here's the Amon Hen map kolakoski is talking about. I'll probably dust off my old map thread and post it there as well. I also haven't forgotten about badgermaniac's custom requests - I'm just busy with C3V stuff.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Marcus Fenix

That's a great map... lots of room for maneuvering a horde of orcs to trap those pesky little hobbits (haha). I'll have to download and print the file to add to my collection of LOTR's scenarios. PeterParkerH has done an amazing job on ones for Mines Of Moria, Helms Deep, and Minas Tirith.

Actually I don't have anything on my calendar for November 25th, YET! But I'm sure that the wifey unit will think of something to do with the family. However, I don't live in Monmouth County any longer just one hour(+/-) from NYC. I spent 3/4 of my life on the north Jersey coast where I could look across Raritan Bay at the New York skyline and hop on a train a bus to go into The City. Last Spring, we sold our house and moved to 20 miles south of AC. So now it's a lot closer to drive to Phili than the NYC, even though it takes over and hour and a half.

Do any of you have any interest in the new Lord of the Rings HeroClix game due to FINALLY be released by WizKids this Dec? I've pre-ordered two sets and hope I can find someone locally to play with. The two nearest FLGS's are both big into WarHammer, 40K, and Magic, they're just not my cup of tea.

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Dominic Santiago

Yeah, his Helm's Deep maps and scenarios are the reason I own three castle sets. :)

Yes, but I'm only interested in the minis, especially the Witch King and (hopefully) an affordable Cave Troll someday. I can't wait to update and playtest my Witch King custom and design one for the Cave Troll.

Anyway, I realized that Marcus Fenix has been pretty lonely in here, so here's his hetero-lifemate:

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Dominic Santiago

How about an Oathbreakers card for the PK's?

Re: Sherman's Lord of the Rings customs: Dominic Santiago

I like the synergy between him and Marcus. Do you plan to work on customs for the other Gears of Wars figures that were released? My FLGS sells them, and I think they'd be great additions to my collection.
