ScapeCon III Marvelous Map Contest: CONGRATS to APOC NOW!

Re: ScapeCon III Marvelous Map Contest: Maps Due Oct 9th, 20

I was curious about the usage of sets in this contest so I pulled together the data from the submissions (I counted only 28 sets, I believe one was removed after submission which would explain why the previous count was 29).

Here's the data. Unique usage is how many maps used that set (so if a map uses two of the same set that only counts for 1). Total usage is the amount of that set used (a map that uses two of the same set counts for 2 in this case).

Besides the Marvel set of course, the most used set was a tie between Jungle and Forest, each with 8 unique usages and 9 total usages. Right behind them and number 1 among Master Sets was BftU with 8 total and unique usages.

The least used set was Volcarren Wasteland with only 4 unique and total usages.

The most used terrain combination was a tie between 2x Marvel 1x BftU 1x RttFF and 2x Marvel 1x BftU 1x TJ.

Just thought this was some interesting info!
That really neat seeing it all layed out like that. Thank you for sharing.

Hah hah, those are precisely the two combos of my two submissions. Does this mean I get to call myself the most average? Or the most popular? Or the most boring?

Maybe it just means you have a good eye for the best set combinations! I didn't have this in my post, but there were only 3 maps with each of those combinations. So it's not like it was a huge amount.

The second post has been updated with all the maps and their IRL images!

Wow, an immense amount of labor you put into this, @MegaSilver.
:cheer: :toast:

Re: ScapeCon III Marvelous Map Contest: POLLS OPEN! Check OP

I left some commentary on each map. I am not a real map expert, so I just pointed out whatever red flags I saw. I would love to see comments from others, and am actually waiting to vote in most threads until there is more commentary.

Side note: I didn't submit any maps to this one.

Re: ScapeCon III Marvelous Map Contest: POLLS OPEN! Check OP

I also gave some thoughts. Some real promise showed in a lot of the submissions. I ended up voting for 15 of the 28 maps in total.

CONGRATULATIONS TO APOCALPYSE NOW for the Community Vote Win!

I'm really honored! :woot:

Huge thanks, @MegaSilver, for brainstorming and organizing the contest. Including making — and photographing — ALL the maps in real life! :toast: A true labor of love on your part.

So generous of you to offer a prize, @MegaSilver. I'd like to give it back to the community — could you please donate it to the prize table for the upcoming ScapeCon 3? Maybe arrange with @OEAO whichever prize choice you think would be most suitable/fun?

Congratulations @Typhon2222!!
Congrats @Typhon2222! Apocalypse Now looks great and has a good name. I think I'm going to make it my next build.
@OEAO, @NecroBlade, you're princes among men. Thanks for the warm words.

I mean, I was planning to bring it to the next event, but you can instead!

He's working on an updated version, though.
Oh thanks @MegaSilver! It's all done, and posted! — or just click on my signature block. :)

ARV CONTEST WINNER!

Sir Heroscape, Nomad, and myself are pleased to announce the contest winner for the ScapeCon III Marvelous Map Contest! For those who had forgotten, there are two winners for the contest - a winner by popular vote (claimed by @Typhon2222 's excellent-looking map, Apocalypse Now) and one chosen by the ARV judges. After reviewing the maps, we have decided to award the honor to Desolate Courtyard, a map by @Awaken515 !

Spoiler Alert!

After carefully studying the maps, we collectively felt that Desolate Courtyard is deserving of the honor of winning the ARV portion of the contest. It is well constructed, with a solid distribution of height, road, and LoS blockers. While some small tweaks have been recommended for the map (further playtesting could help illuminate exactly what tweaks need to be made), we also felt that this version of Desolate Courtyard was among the maps that required the fewest potential changes to be balanced and fit for tournament play.

We're excited to get more experience with Desolate Courtyard and the other maps submitted to the contest. There were so many fantastic entries! The community continues to prove again and again that we are in a golden age of scape cartography.

Well done Awaken515! We're excited to see more maps from you in the future! And thanks again to @MegaSilver for organizing and carrying out the contest!
