ScapeCon III Marvelous Map Contest: CONGRATS to APOC NOW!

One of the least used sets in competitive maps is the Marvel Set. It's small in size, and the Marvel Heroes aren't allowed in most events anyway. In my desire to get more maps made with the Marvel set (especially 2x Marvel), I put a call out a month ago to some mapmakers, such as superfrog, to get the ball rolling.

This is because I obtained 8x Marvel sets for use with ScapeCon III back this spring! (Vydar XLIII provided 2 of them.)

We need some competitive Marvel maps for ScapeCon III!

Map building parameters:
  • Map submissions can have no more than 1 Master Set and 2 Expansions
OR 2 Master Sets and 1 Expansion
  • 2x Marvel Sets Count as 1 Master Set for this contest.
  • 1x Marvel Set Count as 1 Expansion for this contest.
  • You must state if you're using the Marvel Set as your Master Set and/or Expansion(s) for each submission.
  • 1x Marvel Set Minimum. You may submit 3+ Marvel sets for the contest, but they may get automatically rejected for use at ScapeCon III, so not recommended.
  • 24 Hex starting zone
  • Maps must be able to accommodate the Marro Hive
  • The Top level of the Warehouse ruins MUST be removed if used, and this must be mentioned in the build rules since VS doesn't have a way to remove it.

SUBMISSIONS:
Submissions should include a display image (ideally a 3D VirtualScape rendering) and build instructions
A maximum of 2 entries per person. One of the maps must be new for this contest and not already designed/posted on the forums prior to this contest.

DEADLINE:

October 9th, 2022.

VOTING:

There will be TWO WINNERS! One of the winners will be chosen by community polling. The other winning map will be selected by ARV (Architects of the Realm), after the community poll is done and they've had more time to review the maps.

PRIZES:

Both Winners will receive the one of following options as prizes for winning! They can choose the same or different prizes.

1. 2x Deathchasers, 3D Printed and Painted (No Card)
2. 2x Knights of Weston, 3D Printed and Painted (No Card)
3. 2x Marvel Heroes, Repainted (Their Choice in Design)
4. 1x RotV Squad or 1x/2x RotV Heroes Repainted (Their Choice in Design)

DISCLAIMERS:

1. Contest Winners are not guaranteed to be used in ScapeCon III.
2. Contestants in general are not guaranteed to be used in ScapeCon III.
3. ScapeCon III organizers reserve the right to edit/update/change maps from this contest for ScapeCon III. This may include working with the creator to change the map for the event, or internal organizer changes. Proper credit to the creator will still be provided, and edit note will be added.
4. ARV is judging the best map out of the contest. This does not necessarily mean it is a ARV-Worthy map. They can accept or reject any or all maps as ARV-Worthy if they choose after the contest.
5. These rules or anything else may be updated/changed during the duration of the Submission process, and notifications of any major changes will be made in this thread and/or title.

Here are all the Links to the Round 1 (QuarterFinal) Polls! This will also be in the OP. Be sure to check the second post for more images of the maps in the contest:

Ooh, interesting. @superfrog and @GameBear have both been working on some maps that would qualify for this.

Yes, because I asked for someone to make some 2x Marvel maps and they stepped up to the challenge. :)
Great minds think alike. @dok and I were talking about the need for 2xMarvel maps just a couple weeks ago.

Yes, he was involved in that conversation when I put the request out. Lol

Re: ScapeCon III Marvelous Map Contest: Maps Due Oct 9th, 20

I've been using a couple of my asphalt 7 hexes as coasters for about a decade. Guess it's time I give them a quick scrub and pull out the rest of my Marvel set.

A map to rep C3G, clearly too big for you guys but I had fun building it.

Hey, what are the size restrictions for this contest? Last time I entered a contest judged by ARV it was deemed too large (I like large maps personally). I see a lot of submissions in the ARV that are hex shaped is that a preference for them?

There aren't any specified size requirements / restrictions. But since these are for 1v1 tournament play. I'd say something in the range of 13-15 hexes between start zones and 15-17 across the middle / widest point is a pretty good rule of thumb to start with.

Re: ScapeCon III Marvelous Map Contest: Maps Due Oct 9th, 20

My first submission for the contest, Molten Grotto! Love the aesthetics of Marvel with BftU and VW, so I knew there was a good map hiding somewhere in that combination. Took tons of revisions and feedback from the community, and lots of playtesting, but I'm finally happy with the finished product!
