Ladder clarifications follow below.

Lob rules in a later post.

--------------

We've come out with a set of clarifications for how to play with ladders. The following will be the rules for all online events.

These clarifications are meant to align with the official rulebook in the simplest way possible while also aligning with the way we believe most people assume that ladders are supposed to work.

--------------

LADDER RULES
Small and medium figures can choose to ignore an unoccupied ladder when moving down (but not when moving up). If you ignore the ladder, you do not occupy the ladder spaces.
Moving onto a ladder (when not already on that ladder):

  1. If you must climb over an obstacle such as a battlement to access the ladder, count movement for climbing as usual. Then, consider the figure’s base level to be the level it has climbed to when considering its position relative to the ladder.
  2. If a figure is more than 1 level above the highest rung of the ladder, it cannot move onto the ladder and must move to the landing space. Falling rules may apply.
  3. If a figure is on the same level as the ladder's landing space, it must move to the landing space first.
  4. If a figure is not on the same level as the landing space, it may move to a rung that is the same level as the figure's base, or one level higher or lower than the figure's base. 1 movement point.

Moving off of a ladder (from any rung) onto a non-ladder space (including the landing space):

  1. If the space is more than 1 level higher, or if you are at a lower level than a battlement, railing, or ruin between the spaces, use normal movement rules for climbing.
  2. If the space is a lower level, same level, or up to 1 level higher than current level (and there is nothing to climb over), move onto the space for 1 movement point.* Falling rules may apply.

    * unless onto heavy snow/slippery ice, then 2 movement

Great work on these to those who were involved! :cheer:

Also, after the week everyone's had, I think it is time for a :grouphug:

Re: Clarifications on Ladders for Online Events

Very slight addendum to these rules. The section that used to read:

Small and medium figures can choose to ignore a ladder when moving down (but not when moving up).
Now reads:

Small and medium figures can choose to ignore an unoccupied ladder when moving down (but not when moving up). If you ignore the ladder, you do not occupy the ladder spaces.
I'm not sure this ever matters on any tournament map, but it covers the only outstanding rules question I've seen anyone come up with since we posted these clarifications.

We've decided to clarify the rules for how Lob attacks work for online play.

LOB RULES

In order to target a figure with a ranged attack that has a lob rating, you must satisfy the following criteria:

  1. The target's base cannot be more than [lob] levels above the attacker's base.
  2. You must either
    • Have clear sight to the target, OR
    • Be able to draw a straight line from the attacker's targeting point to any part of the target that does not pass through an obstacle or terrain feature that is [lob] levels above the attacker.

Except that in both cases of 'lob' attack I know of (12th Caucasus Rifles and Airborne Elite) the card explicitly states that clear sight is not needed.

Yes, that’s what our second bullet point lays out. Other interpretations that leave out a LoS option entirely prevent you from lobbing over the corners of the big tree, even when you have a wide open sight line.
