Hi folks. A while back I posted asking if any paper standees for heroscape units existed, and though the answer was no, there was some interest in that project. I'd like to check if that interest is still around, and if so, organize a community effort.

I think such a project would be greatly beneficial to the game and community. Having a comprehensive paper standee archive would have multiple benefits:

• Fielding multiple squads of units (or single heroes) that are extremely expensive now, such as squads in the later waves or Aquilla's Alliance.
• Inexpensively demoing the game to new players without carting around boxes and boxes of expensive collector's items.
• Right now, due to the cost of the game, the barrier to entry is high enough that the only people who truly get into Heroscape are people who were into it when it was active. High-quality printable standees would lower that barrier to "access to a print shop and twenty bucks to print out all the units in the game, and some cutting and taping"
• More kid friendly - no danger in showing your younger family members the game if it's in paper form. Nothing to be stolen or broken, aside from terrain, but that can be ameliorated by AOTP boards or mats.

Of course, a downside is depth of the "figures" and visibility when considering ranged attacks, but I feel like that's a concession you'd simply have to make.

What I'd want for this project are people to help me with taking quality photos of the official units (placed against a white background for ease of photo editing), or helping me find existing pictures of sufficient quality. One picture per unit - all the squad members could even be in the same picture. I'm aware that there is a gallery of small .gifs of the units, but I feel as though they are a bit too low quality for my purposes, and those pictures only work for "medium 5" units. I can definitely do part of this myself, but the only camera I have access to is my iphone 5s....not exactly the height of quality.

Very cool project! I can certainly see the value of this. Perhaps you should reach out to the guys making the 3d prints of Heroscape figures since they are already photographing each and every figure at a high resolution in order to create a 3d mold? I bet they have a large inventory of photos already.

That’s definitely an option for the single-spaces figures, but I don’t know if the 2-spaces would work.

I've considered working on a project like this for C3G. I don't have a ton of photoshop skill or time though, so it's always been on the backburner.

Good luck though, I think this is fantastic.

Sorry, I meant to message you - close up, the hexscape models looked...not good. I'm not sure if I was doing it wrong or downloaded the wrong thing (I downloaded the most recent pack from you) but it looked not ideal. I wanted to see if I could get some pictures of the minis before I fell back on those.


EDIT: Well, shoot. The 4th MAss figure I looked at was just a jumble of polygons. That looks a lot better.

I know they are not high resolution, but if you shrink them down to tabletop size I'm not sure you'll notice the difference.

As an update, I'm sort of figuring out Blender. Here's what I've got.

I would, ideally, like to have all of the images for this project be via real life images, but if I can come up with a quick way to do these it'll be a perfect placeholder.

This is a link to the first page of the first draft of the first set. It’s mostly here as a proof of concept. I’m thinking I may fiddle with the figure images and edit them a bit, they seem a little dark.

If anyone would like to help me edit images (as in, edit out the background of pictures of the minis), let me know.

Ideally, I'd like to include the rulebook and the cards in this .zip file, to help new players get into the game. I plan to print these out soon and see if the sizes seem right - but as I mentioned elsewhere in the thread (I believe) I don't currently have any of my collection.

With a new method for editing, I've been blazing through the stock of images I was given by volunteers on discord.

ROTV is finished (also, I included cards and the rule book), Wave 1 needs Roman Archers, I have some of Wave 2. I also have Orm's Return and most of the terrain expansion units.

I need volunteers to take pictures of units.

IF you'd like to help, prioritize Roman Archers and Wave 2 units besides Knights/Denrick/Swog Rider. I could also use Dzu-Teh to complete all the terrain units, and the second large expansion.
