@bamoguy - if you're just randomly assigning matchups within record each round, you can't claim any improved accuracy over the schedule Benji is suggesting.
@Benji - I agree that the "play-to-place" schedule is pretty much fine for a 16 player event. The "places" it comes up with are not very accurate, though. I suppose it's fine as long as we re-sort by record and SoS at the end.The problem with "play to place", 4-round brackets like that is that if you lose in the first round, you can't finish any higher than 9th, even if the person you lose to goes 4-0. In a Swiss format, your opponent's 4-0 record improves your strength of schedule, so if someone goes 3-1 after losing in the first round to the person who wins, they should finish up in the top 4.
I see your point. I will counter with a big "who cares?"
Because it keeps the rankings past the top 4 or so accurate. Even if people don't win the whole thing they want to know where they placed.
