Odd Volcarren price?

Hey gang,
So, I was finally able to visit the local TRU since being home. I was surprised to see that they had six Volcarren Wasteland sets there. When I went to the price checker, I found out that they were $18.49 at my TRU.

Weren't these sets $15.99 at the other TRUs? Or did I just imagine reading that somewhere?

OK, I just checked toysrus.com, and the Wasteland set is $15.99 there.

Oh well. Any ideas as to why it'd be more expensive at mine? Bah, I'll probably still buy one.

They weren't selling well at $14.99, so they...

Raised the price, of course. Excellent marketing strategy, but what do I know? My degree is in computer science.

But, like I said, who am I kidding? I'll buy it anyway.

I don't understand why they raised the price. I don't get into TRU often, but lasttime I checked, many still had a plethora of HLD on shelf. I luckily picked up a few for $1.50 each at the TRU closeout sale. That is a price we will never see again.

After buying six sets at the last BOGO sale there's just no way I want to spend more that $7.50 for one.

Yea, they've almost always been $18.49 at my local TRU. I can drive 15 minutes down the interstate to a different TRU and get it for $15.99. And the TRU website has it for $15.99.

Makes absolutely NO sense...

If TRU is organized the same way other chain businesses are, then you have two types of stores -- corp and franchise. Corp stores are owned and operated by the company, and run under the corporate directives; franchise stores are owned and operated by private individuals who pay a franchise fee to the corporation to do business under the corporate name and get access to the corporate supply chain. Corp stores will all have the same prices and run the same promotions and special deals; franchise stores can, within limits, set their own prices and may or may not participate in promotions or special deals that the corporation runs.

I only had 2 VW & I wanted to get 2 more. I saw they had the 14.99 price still on them when they rang up they were 18.99 I got them for 14.99 I don't think I'll need more then 4 of these. Ever!

I have not bought vW yet. At my TRU it is on the top shelves and you need a ladder to get to them. So I don't know what they are selling for.

BUT I tell you this. If my TRU is selling them for more than what they are being sold for online, THEN I will ask them to order me a VW ( I don't think they even know they have them in the store). I'll refer to the online price. We'll see if that works.

"Hot Lava Death", a nick-name for the Volcarren Wasteland set.

Some thought the original price of 14.99-15.99 (varied according to store I believe) was a little high. Now after the initial demand for them is over and they are warming shelves, a time you usually see items getting their prices slashed, TRU decides to go and RAISE the price a few dollars on the VW sets? Folks, this is probably a BIG reason why TRU is going out of business.

Wasn't just the HLD sets. The Large heroes sets and RTFF sets went up to $22.99 at the same time.

And all TRU's are corporate owned. By KKR group.

This is not new. Some stores have always sold them at this price. The pricing is based on the demographics and median incomes for the area in which the store is located.

This is news to me. Orm's Return got a price hike?

:brickwall: :frustrated:

How do they expect their massive backlog of figures to move now, by charging people more for them? Those evil geniuses at TRU need to give their heads a shake, because that's just about the worst idea I've ever heard of.
Almost as bad as packaging 3 uniques to one common. Way to go, brain surgeons.

*sigh* I feel it is my duty to explain why the Washington TRU sell for more...
Thanks to a few of us here in Seattle area, (4-5 persons in fact) boosted the Heroscape sales dramatically. We *ahem* special ordered them at 3 stores, and had several more shipped from other stores in the area to the one store. Northgate TRU was at one time the top selling Heroscape store in the country.
Anyway, they are losing money somewhere else (theft, lack of sales whatever) and they decieded to raise the price because people are "willing" to pay for it, since we cleaned them out for months.

The closet TRU to me hasn't even got VW's. I had to order mine off of Amazon. I would say the only good thing they have there is loads of wave 2 and 1st edition MS's that are 45 bucks. I haven't bought one beucase it's quite a drive over there. Though there is another TRU close I haven't been to check out. They might have them.

Hiking the price months back when the sets were selling like hot cakes woulda made sense. Hiking the price now after initial demand has died down and the sets are warming shelves makes NO sense. They have it all backwards. They shoulda raised the price when the demand was there and be lowering it now that there isn't near as much demand.

The fact that they also raised the price on the large expansion sets just shows how far gone TRU really is. If I wanted RttFF or Orm's I could go to basically any WM, Target, or TRU in the area and pick it up. It's not hard to find now and has been on shelves for months. But TRU in all their inifnite wisdom decided hey, lets up the price 3 bucks! So now there is NO chance anyone would want to buy it from them, not when it is offered for less down the street at WM or Target. I doubt all those sets warming shelves are gonna suddenly be in hot demand. If they wern't selling at $20, why would they at $23?

Whatever. I never shop at TRU anyways due to their poor competative pricing and inability to stock items in a timely manner. When the flag bearers come out in a few months I will pick em up and not step foot in a TRU until the enxt time a HS exclusive is offered through them.
