This is a really sweet contest - I'm a bit swamped, otherwise I'd try my hand at it. I hope a Mothman wins. :p

No worries, we will be doing more of these!

I also can assure you that the NGC foundation endorses the Mothmen :D

Considering that I born near the Mothman area of Point Pleasant, West Virginia (actually in Bidwell, OH), I however will not be submitting a Mothman unit. lol

Well darn ;)

Hopefully we see something regardless. Looking forward to sifting through everyone's ideas. It's always great to see what designs the wider community has.

Intended to have 3 figures per army card.

Here's my submission for the NGC contest. Shadow People are an ever-present trope in media and a recognized phenomenon in Cryptid and ghost hunting circles. They're often portrayed as unmoving observers, unnervingly watching from the darkness. But when they are violent, they move in the blink of an eye or under a passing shadow, taken away from eyesight along with their victim. https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-shadow-175747

I went for a more neutral interpretation -as opposed to directly violent and evil- as I actually find that creepier. Makes them and their motives unknown and what's scarier than the unknown? This was fun, can't wait to see the other submissions :D

Awesome entry! Thankyou for submitting.

I'll compile these on the final day just in case you have any second thoughts or final edits you want to make.

How many figures are in a squad?

Spoiler Alert!

Inspiration/Design:
TLDR-- The largest inspiration is a Magic: the Gathering card called Humility. It’s all about making asymmetry out of a symmetrical effect. There’s also potential for more Aurora figures to be made in the future that synergize interestingly with this figure.

Spoiler Alert!

Lore:
TLDR-- Heroscapified totally-not-a-biblical-angel that’s called an Aurora instead.

Spoiler Alert!

Playtesting Notes:
TLDR-- Aurora of Humility is most powerful against certain high tier melee armies (knights especially), but this power is kept in check by the 3 space range and order marker inefficiency. Against range-heavy armies, Miragel is best as a cleanup unit that provides passive advantage.

Spoiler Alert!

My entry: Aquatic Horror

Aquatic-Horror_6.jpg

Inspired by the SCP-1128 (https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-1128)

A deep distress settles over the vanguard of Utgar's army as they approach another water crossing. Warlord Ne-Gok-Sa mysteriously disappeared at the last one, only to return moments later half dead and more than half insane. His ravings about the monster and refusal to look at even a cup of water has the company paranoid and, for the first time, truly scared.
Skin prickles as the troops feel malevolent eyes watching their approach with unsettling eagerness. They know any second now another of their number will be whisked away to be devoured by some unknown evil.
They arrive at the river bank, only pushed forward by the fear of Utgar's demented punishments if they were to turn back; each praying to all that is unholy that it is one of their companions that is chosen by the unseen horror.

This is a cool method of community engagement. I've never paid much attention to this subforum before, but I respect the effort involving in creating the NGC project.

Original figure image credit goes to MyMiniFactory.

The figure used for this unit is a Fearsome Wilderness figure. The name of the figure is The Hidebehind. The figure's base is single-spaced. The figure is unpainted. The STL file for this figure is available for purchase here.

Well I got beat to uploading a Fearsome Critter, so I'll just follow Blue_Trails typing since it makes sense and it would be cool to have customs be consistent.

jackalope.jpg

Figure used is free to download at MyMiniFactory (uses Jackalope with three feet on the ground)

Alternatively the other figure in the link above could be used or this thingiverse one, also free.

A Cryptid who is elusive, but not for long. Elusive forces enemies closer or at least prevents them creating a firing squad. If they rush in to catch the Jackalope, they have to deal with Counterstrike. His abilities work best against squads, but his single attack and low defense mitigates that.
Uses a version of an ability I suggested for Darth Legolas's custom, but since he ended up not using it I used it here (as promised).

Awesome entries!

Just posting to say that last night was the close of the contest. We are now compiling stuff and we look forward to going through all the amazing units submitted

NGC wants to thank everyone that spent time designing, testing, and working on a submission for this contest. We got an amazing 11 entries that showcase the creativity and talent of our community. Over the next two weeks we will be going through these and looking for the best fit to be a special release with us. Tough choices!!!

If your favorite entry doesn't get picked this time do not fret, there will be more chances and we hope to open up more community submissions and workshopping in the future. Feel free to look through the entries and talk about your favorite below, I think all of these miniatures would look great on the table.

These are all the entries we wound up with for the Cryptid Contest:

The variety in these submissions is impressive! I'm partial to Skywhale's Lost Stellanaut from a creative perspective and to MegaSilver's Dingoweys of Oshlinn from a mechanical/gameplay perspective.

Hmm, for some reason the link to the miniatures for my submission don't work (though the images I posted seem to show). Is that the same for anyone else?

I think Vetrskraak, mothman, and It-that-hides-and-follows nail the theme the best. I love the interpretation of the theme offered by Blast_Shark and Skywhale though, awesomely creative.

Gameplay wise, Stellanauts, Anzu Fae, and Dingoweys are my favorite.

I really dig your restless shadows! Vanish is such a cool, unique skill. I'd love to see it in action. Great job!

Hello NGC Fans,

We received a collection of incredible designs. Thankyou to everyone that put time and effort into your customs and working on these submissions. There was such a display of talent that there is a lot of backroom chatter about reaching out to individual designers in the future and working with some of the cool things that they did.

Regardless, today we get to highlight a winner.

Congratulations to Sky Whale and the Stellanaut entry

Lost-Stellanaut.png

After a lot of excited deliberation, theorycrafting, and discussion among the staff we decided that this is a must have addition to NGC's new planet of Whenua. This unit had an amazing combination of mechanics, charm, and that special feel that makes it a cryptid that I feel we could tell stories about around a campfire.

Very soon we will be reaching out to the winner and inviting them to a private design platform on discord so we can work with them on this unit and get it polished up for a special release in the near future.

That's not the End

We will be having more contests in the future for focused designs. Also, if you feel that you have a design that really fits what we are doing or one of the unique settings that we are creating then feel free to hit us up on discord or contact us on the forum. We welcome ideas and input from the community and want to provide more opportunities for the amazing creators that play this game.
