This map is based on the cantina from A New Hope. It doesn’t follow the layout of the cantina perfectly, instead taking inspiration from it in order to create a symmetrical map with reasonable terrain requirements.

I have played on this map a bit with my last few weeks of playtests. It is a very small map and conflict happens very quickly. Most combat takes place around the center bar area, and somewhat in the bandstand area. Ranged single-spaced heroes like to camp on the single-hex heights (tables) if it works out since enemies then have to reach them from low ground. Despite that, the map isn’t too punishing for double spacers.

I didn’t include any DOs or tokens on this map, nothing seemed essential.

Looks pretty straightforward! Definitely good to have a few more "no stuff on the map" maps for testing/tournies

So I've played this map the last few weeks of my playtests, but I tried to keep a bit more notes for some recent ones for an initial. Here are those tests with some info scrubbed for Sanctum designs.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Mos Eisley Cantina is easily the smallest map in our library, and conflict occurs really quickly. Fast or ranged figures can start attacking the enemy very early. Fliers don't really have too much of an advantage here, but it gets congested easily, so flying helps in that regard. Huge figures can maneuver around easily enough with all the flat ground. There's still enough cover with the little table/chair cubbies and the pillars in the center for figures to hide if they want to do so.

I'm ready to see what others think of the map in testing.

Spoiler Alert!
The “bandstand” that’s parallel to the bar tops didn’t see any real action in my tests. I wonder if putting a 4th level of height in the back four or so spaces of that area would make it an attractive sniper spot that would draw more figures there.

Team Test

Map: MOS EISLEY

Units: Hush (200), Joker (220), Crazed Clowns (120), Clayface (Basil) (265), Bane (190), Fighting Chance (5) (1000) vs Batman (Family) (270), Batgirl (Barbara) (160), Black Bat (210), Nightwing (190), Robin (Tim) (120), Ace (50) (1000)

Game Summary

Spoiler Alert!

Map Summary: This played well. The game was in the thick of the fight in round one and in end game in round three, so it played fast. Clayface moved figures around a lot so it was fun in that way. The Crazed Clowns were able to spread out to offer more opportunities to save Joker, but also gave up height to attackers, making them vulnerable to sniping.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Black Bat with 3 Wounds wins.[/spoiler]

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS: I like it! Good addition to the library.

Thanks Bats!

I believe there are two 2-hex concrete tiles unused - we could add those to the bandstand area to make an area of height 4.

I think that'd be a great idea and make that spot a draw for a few more figures who had 5+ range

would have been a good spot for the 24 hex sand tiles if they were more available in the wild :D

Well that set is released and purchasable ....

But this scene is more indoors anyway
