Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game

Re: Scape-ish Relaunch?

Those are Heroscape tiles. They're *all* Heroscape tiles, though the ones on the edge have little doodads linked on. I hadn't seen these pics before. . .

edit: Ahh, Grish's explanation makes sense. So there's actually very little terrain here, and the ruins look like that interlocking cardboard stuff. Makes sense, economically. Maybe the final production boxes will have more terrain than these will. Mark my words, if this game is popular, your collection of Heroscape terrain, dear reader, will jump in value. By a *lot*.

Re: Scape-ish Relaunch?

SO excited! This is exactly what I've been waiting for. Well almost, it's not quite a Heroscape collection but a similar game I could definitely get into

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game (Looks HeroScap

Close will be good enough for me.

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game (Looks HeroScap

Wouldn't it be nifty if that base layer were made of neoprene (mousepad material)?

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game (Looks HeroScap

It looks like it is. . . Hey @Jim , could you merge all three of these threads, please? Kthxbye. :)

Re: Heroscape spiritual successor?

@MegaSilver Look closer at what the fire birds are standing on. Also, did you see the bases for the figures?

It looks like all the tiles are compatible when I zoom in. The little border bits are detachable it seems. Even if they aren't, you can make something akin to a cell membranes phospholipid bilayer if you place the end bits back to back so that they all become compatible. I may finally get to see a VC terrain release yet!

I'm aware that they match inside the terrain, but look at the outer edge of all the water tiles. They are shaped differently.

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game (Looks HeroScap

They are definitely printed mat sections. Sort of a mini Lexan mat that hooks together.

:woot:

If that's the case, I hope it finally convinces them to make more of those types of terrain. :)

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game (Looks HeroScap

You know, I honestly don't know what to make of this. I'm just not a fan of Magic the Gathering. The mere thought of taking story lines and elements of that CCC and somehow merging it with elements of the Heroscape rules kinda leaves me cold. It's not going to be the same game that's for sure. A strange sort of hybrid maybe. At least with D&D they placed that squarely into the Heroscape game. I could live with that. This is a different beast entirely. I'll wait and see before I get too bent out of shape excited over it.

You can also judge the size of the box it will come in by those hex mats. The box size does leave room for some figures and extra plastic tiles. Interesting choice of color going with the concrete grey.

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game (Looks HeroScap

Visiting other sites talking about it, everyone else it saying it looks like a variation of Heroscape. So at least Heroscape it well known elsewhere.

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game (Looks HeroScap

I'm just not a fan of Magic the Gathering.

:word:

I really hate it when they slap a big named, super successful line on something new (well, in this case, it just seems like heroscape) or innovative and destroys the opportunity of it being its own thing. Like how many things just turn into Star Wars oriented; I'm not a Star Wars fan (it goes without saying the original 3 movies are great, the recent 3 and pretty much everything else is terrible, it just ruins it for me) so I'm just not into it. In this case it seems like it's just riding any heroscape popularity and pushing Magic. So it's not really new, but they still are tagging a big name to it. Like really, does Magic need more things? How about try to come up with a new universe or story or characters, etc. to use fresh game mechanics/ideas.

However, it's pretty awesome for custom Heroscape. C3V will like this indeed.

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game (Looks HeroScap

I'm not a fan of Magic, either, though I used to be. Heck, I used to run tournaments. But I'm excited for this, partly because it'll raise the profile of Heroscape and thus (hopefully) the Heroscape competitive scene. I love me some tournaments. :)

Re: Scape-ish Relaunch?

So this is what WotC was going for when they took over Heroscape...

I hope this sells relatively well because I have a ton of terrain that has been collecting dust in my room for a couple years. The maps that could be make with the excess terrain will look really nice. I am cautiously optimistic :).

All good points Cleon and Dad_Scaper. Let's hope, in a funny sort of way, that Magic becomes the gateway game to Heroscape. We'll get new players into the game and get figures to use as customs. Or the Magic players will look down on Heroscape as a kids game and the figures will be crappy. I guess it's way too soon to be either optimistic, or pessimistic here.

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game (Looks HeroScap

A ton of my college friends are big into magic, so maybe this is what's needed to get them into Heroscape. :)

Re: Scape-ish Relaunch?

Not a fan of the solid color miniatures. I wish they'd charge more and include painted minis.

There is a painted mini in the set. I the unpainted ones are supposed to be fiery, like the Fire Elemental.

Re: Scape-ish Relaunch?

Yeah @Serenity:
Spoiler Alert!

Re: Heroscape spiritual successor?

Wow. The cards look identical, the board looks similar, the figures, the designers, everything. Count me in! And it's ripe for Scape-ifying if nothing else.
