Still figuring out some wording stuff here. This was the latest exchange on that front:

I feel like the laser turret probably should be worded like Megatron's SA giving power? Having the SA itself give itself to someone feels kinda wonky.

I think we may actually want to lean on the DO rules since this is basically like a VDO where you can attack with it instead of your attack phase, only you don't occupy it.

I *think* this works according to the rules (awkwardly we only let the "Driver" attack with DOs).

NAME = LASER TURRET

SIZE/HEIGHT = LARGE 3

LIFE = 3
DEFENSE = 6

POINT AND SHOOT
Any figure adjacent to the Laser Turret is considered its Driver.

DEFENSIVE LASER FIRE SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 6. Attack 3.
Add 1 Attack for each revealed Order Marker on the defender’s card.

PUBLISHER: C3G
KEYWORDS: Inorganic

Could also do like:

POINT AND SHOOT
Any figure adjacent to the Laser Turret can attack with it as if they were its Driver.

Or if we want to avoid all of that, could do:

POINT AND SHOOT
Any figure adjacent to the Laser Turret can attack with it instead of using their attack phase.

Any figure adjacent to it is its driver seems odd. If each player has a figure adjacent to it can they just take turns using it? Not sure that makes sense. You would think it should be the first figure adjacent to it. Or maybe have it be considered a VDO with a move of zero?

I can't recall, do we still do the "Attack 3 + Special" format in 2.0?

Just a thought, but if you wanted to avoid the variable attack number you could add hits for each revealed OM instead. It would be more powerful of course, so maybe then have in a once per round deal (like it has to recharge between shots or something). That way you can opt to use it early in the round, or wait for a bigger attack and risk it being destroyed before you can fire.

We did away with the + Special wording in 2.0.

Agreed that the driver thing seems odd. So you could have multiple figures from different teams all functioning as a driver at once? I think it works mechanically, but the Megatron wording seems clearer to me.

I couldn't figure out how to make the Megatron wording work for a figure that isn't on anyone's team, but I'm open to someone taking a shot at it!

Wondering if I should go down to 1 Life here too?

Yeah, 1 life is nice on DO's. Maybe give it an invulnerable type of ability so it can shrug off 1W dealing abilities (Damage Dice & D20's).

I like 1 Life.

Something like this?
POINT AND SHOOT
Figures adjacent to the Laser Turret gain DEFENSIVE LASER FIRE SPECIAL ATTACK: Range 6. Attack 3. This ability has +1 Attack for each revealed Order Marker on the defender’s card.

I wonder if, to avoid weirdness, I should restrict it to a single figure being adjacent to it? Like:

POINT AND SHOOT
If only 1 figure is adjacent to Laser Turret, it gains: DEFENSIVE LASER FIRE SPECIAL ATTACK: Range 6. Attack 3. This ability has +1 Attack for each revealed Order Marker on the defender’s card.

I think that wording works, though! Thanks for tackling that :)

Is it worth the effort to have the range for the SA start from the turret?

Maybe? One space different and thematically I'm not sure clear sight from the turret really makes more sense than clear sight from the shooter?

Actually, I think I convinced myself that the turret having the target point is weird since it's not the one actually looking for the enemy, so I'd rather keep it as is.

Lets go to Sanity Testing!

Yea, I'm just wondering if it'll lead to unthematic gameplay by encouraging you to stand in front of the turret to get that functional 2 spaces range boost. Maybe just worth feeling out in playtesting?

Hmm, not sure how that's solveable, though. If you are standing between the turret and the enemy and want to shoot them, you're basically shooting through your own figure anyway, so same issue.

Hmm, here's an idea - what if 1 single based figure, Large or smaller, could occupy the same space as the laser turret and that figure is the only one that could use it?

Do y'all think that works?

POINT AND SHOOT

Up to 1 single-base figure that is Large or smaller may occupy the same space as the Laser Turret. If a figure occupies the same space at the Laser Turret, it gains: DEFENSIVE LASER FIRE SPECIAL ATTACK: Range 6. Attack 3. This ability has +1 Attack for each revealed Order Marker on the defender’s card.

Small typo :)

C3G STANDARD PLAYTEST FEEDBACK FORM

Unit Summary: The weapons got some use late and the laser turret was used to finish Orko. Nothing felt overpowered.
Game Summary
Spoiler Alert!

  • WEAPONS RACK: Chosen weapons were [Combat Shotgun, Heavy Machine Gun, Rocket Launcher, Chainsaw]; [Heavy Machine Gun, Rocket Launcher] got used; DO felt [fun, thematic, and useful]
  • LASER TURRET: Special attack inflicted [3] wounds on [Orko]; DO felt [fun and useful, but I want to restrict it to non-adjacent for theme]
Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Omni-Man with 5/8 Life wins.

Map: LAST DAYS OF KRYPTON
Units: Green Lantern (Hal) (300), Green Arrow (210), Black Canary (220), Flash (Barry JL) (270) (1000) vs Alien Queen (400), Alien Drones x5 (600) (1000)
Unit Summary: Aliens were so outmatched and outgunned here already that the Destructible Object additions didn’t matter much, but they were fun still.
Game Summary
Spoiler Alert!

  • WEAPONS RACK: Chosen weapons were [Combat Shotgun, Heavy Machine Gun, Rocket Launcher, Chainsaw]; [Rocket Launcher and Heavy Machine Gun] got used; DO felt [X]
  • LASER TURRET: Special attack inflicted [0] wounds; DO felt [like it could’ve been useful against the Queen, so she destroyed it in a throw attack]
Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Green Arrow with 3/4 Life, Green Lantern with 2/4 Life, and Flash with 1/4 Life win.

UNIT SUMMARY: Putting 2 Weapons Racks on the map was probably overkill as one goes a long way, there just wasn’t a nice middle point for it. I got lots of use out of the weapons rack and some out of the laser turret. Neither swung the games or felt unbalanced. I’m happy with how they played.

Changed the special attack to only work against non-adjacent targets, as it was a bit weird if you charged the thing and they could still shoot you with it.

Lets go to Final Editing!

yea

I would say "single-spaced" instead of "single-based". Cause like even double-spaced figures only have one base, it just takes up 2 spaces. Unless it's a figure like Gamera which has a space between its feet.
